Proxima Midnight is one of Thanos' lieutenants in the Black Order. She is the greatest warrior in all of Thanos' army. She has great physical power and ability. She is the wife of the another of the Black Order's lieutenants, the cruel Corvus Glaive.
Proxima Midnight was sent to Atlantis as part of Thanos' invasion. However, when she got there she found a broken man in Namor, as Atlantis had already been attacked by Wakanda. Promixa Midnight decided to spare Atlantis if he could tell her where she could locate the Infinity Gems that Thanos was looking for. Namor agreed to her terms and also gave his allegiance to her cause.
When the Avengers finally made their way to battle Thanos and the Cull Obsidian, Proxima used her spear to pin down Hulk, who arrived first, with the weight of a star while Corvus cut his throat. Proxima then reverted Hulk back into Banner. Between the two of them, the Avengers (including Captain America, Captain Marvel, and Hyperion) had their hands full. Cap was able to defect some of her deadly attacks and they ricocheted into Corvus, giving Hyperion the opportunity to destroy him. Proxima gathered his blade just before Thane incased her and Thanos in a state of 'living death.'
Proxima and Thanos were released by Namor and Corvus reformed from his blade. Namor asked them to join him in saving the Earth from Universal Incursions - by destroying alternate Earths. Together again, Proxima and Corvus continued to do what they do best.
As with all but Namor, Proxima takes great delight in the destruction, drawing out the death and misery needlessly.
Following the events of Secret Wars a Mjolnir entered the 616 universe after surviving the destruction of its own universe. Thanos tasked Proxima, Black Swan & Hela to retrieve the hammer. The group located hammer on The Collector's ship, who had stolen all of Asgard as he was unable move Mjolnir from where it landed. Whiles searching the ship the group was confronted by Thor, Beta Ray Bill and soon after The Collector.
The three groups began to fight for Mjolnir when Thor used it to create a blast of lightning rendering them unconscious. Force to return empty Thanos started to express his displeasure until Hela killed Black Swan and Proxima Midnight stating she doesn't need a token to prove her worth.
Proxima Midnight was created by writer Jonathan Hickman. She made a one panel cameo appearance in New Avengers #8, and then made her first full appearance in Infinity #1, where she is also named, and in which the Black Order first unites. Her first regular cover appearance then took place in New Avengers #9.
Powers and Abilities
Proxima Midnight possesses great strength, agility and fighting ability.
Her spear when thrown transforms into three tracers of black light that never miss. The beams are lethal to most creatures. Her spear was forged from a sun that was distorted in space-time. It has the power of a star and a supernova. It can also create nets with the weight of a star to hold any opponent.
Proxima Midnight appears as one of the antagonists in the third Avengers movie, portrayed by Carrie Coon. In the film, she (like the other members of the Black Order) is one of Thanos' adopted children, much like Gamora and Nebula. Early on, she and Corvus Glaive are sent to Europe to find Vision, whose head contains the Mind Stone, one of the legendary Infinity Stones. The two villains manage to overpower Vision and Scarlet Witch, but are forced to flee due to the arrival of the Avengers. Proxima Midnight later returns as the leader of the invasion of Wakanda, and has a rematch with Scarlet Witch. Okoye and Black Widow join in the fight, and three women ultimately manage to kill Proxima Midnight.
Proxima Midnight appears in the second season, voiced by Kari Wahlgren. She and the rest of the Black Order appear in the two-part episode "New Frontiers" and "Avengers World," where they spring Thanos from an intergalactic prison and help him invade New Korbin. After being defeated by the Avengers on Earth, she and the rest of her teammates are mentioned as having been taken into custody by the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Proxima Midnight and the rest of the Black Order also appear in the Guardians of the Galaxy episodes "Undercover Angle" and "Stuck in the Metal With You," with Kari Wahlgren reprising her role.
