@Crissdragon: Obviously with how popular of a character Batman is there is something in him which people find as what they can relate to. While there can be an interesting debate made over whether he should kill or not, enough people define a hero (at least a comic hero) as someone that does not kill and so this has to add to his popularity and not draw from it. Being such a popular character he does have the responsibility to be everything to everyone, and sometimes the core values of him as a character are lost. Still I think a lot of this comes down to personal preference. For instance, vegetarians make an excellent and essentially unarguable case for not eating meat, but we eat meat because we like to as a society. Batman serves somewhat the same role, maybe there can be a case made against him as a great character, but as a whole society still loves him for what he represents.
