This looks awesome. The art is amazing, and with Jason Aaron writing, I'm sure it'll be a great read.

Yeah, not really a fan of We Stand On Guard so far. Vaughan really hasn't expanded on the reasoning behind the war between the U.S. and Canada, especially given that the entire premise is incredibly unrealistic. I expected more out of him, but so far the entire series seems like a sloppily written cliché.

I think I'm the only one who likes McCarthy's art

Vocal minority, dude. Vocal minority.

Trevor McCarthy's art is amazing. It was amazing when he was on the bat-books, and its still great now.

DC:

  • Batgirl #43
  • JLA #3
  • Cyborg #2
  • Grayson #11
  • Superman #43
  • We Are Robin #3
  • Pres #3
  • Aquaman #43

Only a few of the Secret Wars tie-ins have really caught my attention. But it looks like I'm sticking to only DC, Image, and Archie until ANAD Marvel starts.

Superman #42 - This series is really surprising me. I had never read any of Yang's work and so far the "Truth" story line has been horrible, completely changing the character of Superman from who he is, (Last week's Superman/ Wonder Woman was the worst so far, and that's saying al ot). The main reason this is the only Superman title I still like is probably because he's still Superman here since its "Before Truth." .I'll probably drop the Superman title after it catches up and enters the world of "After Truth" but maybe Yang will surprise me a second time.

While Yang is the best writer on the Superman title, he is far from the best currently and Truth as been really good. SM/WW's last issue was great and Pak has been killing it on AC.... not so much BM/SM.

Regardless of the quality of each title, I find it ridiculous how some people are so hostile towards any degree of change. Regardless of the fact that this event has done nothing to alter, even slightly, the basic character traits that make Superman, well, Superman, people are still clamoring that DC has changed the character beyond repair???? Seriously?

It just goes to show that, to some people, ephemeral characteristics are everything; that appearance is everything. Superman is still Superman as long as he's wearing the cape on his shoulders, but as soon as you take away the cape, he ceases being Superman? Part of this story's importance is to show that Superman is more than just his powers and that, even if you remove most of the trappings we traditionally identify with the character, the core of who he is is a really good guy who wants to stand up for those who can't fight for themselves.

Some people are alluding to it in their comments but I guess I will flat out ask it... Is this called Captain America: White so we dont confuse it with the new Captain America because hes black? No matter what the reason behind it is... this is a poorly thought out title...

In all fairness the color books are named by using a color associated with the character (early Daredevil yellow and early Hulk Grey) so the colors you associate with Captain America are red, white and blue. Spider-Man already had blue and red for whatever reason just seems like it wouldn't fit, maybe because it's associated more with the Soviet Union than America, so white was really the only color left to go with.

There's also the possibility Loeb is planning to use red as the color to go with another character. Iron Man, maybe? That is, if there are any more of these "color" titles.

Anyway, I'm super excited for this. Loeb and Sale make a killer team. I love Batman: The Long Halloween.

I'm actually really excited for Superman; American Alien. I love Nick Dragotta's art and I think Landis is a really talented writer. I'd love to see more of them.

@hybryda: Eh. Keep in mind that not everything you'd think is Batman related actually has that much Batman in it at all. Gotham by Midnight is actually a Spectre book and Gotham Academy doesn't feature much of Batman.

@zeeguy91: Red Son rays only stop him from getting energy, it doesn't take it away. In addition, it usually take several hours to days to lose all his powers and this is completely based on the amount of energy he's expelling.I don't remember seeing him fight anybody or do anything strenuous in the short time between him being on Earth and him teleporting to Apokolips. So since none of it was explained or delve upon, its just lazy writing for the sake of forwarding the story, which is fine I suppose.

Well, when was this "procedure" for Superman losing his powers established? Because, as far back as I can remember, it hasn't been that way. In fact, wasn't it during Infinite Crisis that Superman's powers were completely sapped because he flew through a red sun?? If what you're saying is true, then he would have walked away from that no problem. But instead he lost his powers for a year.
