The actions of the 5th Republic were no secret to the President of the United States. In fact the President had already secured an agreement with the French government to move forward on the newly remodeled Sentinel Program. For all intensive purposes the President had been playing the Blood Hunter's founder from the start. Even going so far as to disclose Egan's master plan to the French Prime Minister in advance of the first missile strike. To say that Gambler was prepared for Egan's strike would be an understatement.
Wanda had been by the Cajun's side since the glory days of Mighty Magneto. Always careful to keep to the shadows and out of the public's eye. The two shared a bond like that of brother and sister, and she would do anything to protect his family and the country they had turned into an empire. An easy task for one of the universes most accomplished reality warpers. With unbridled power at her disposal the Scarlet Witch had already altered the events of one war, and now it was time for her to display her abilities again.
Hours before the initial attack on France, a small burst of light erupted throughout the country. Lasting only but a minute it passed unnoticed. Even those who knew what was happening found themselves unaware of the true magnitude of what had occurred. But in the sliver of time Wanda had used her mastery of the dark arts, coupled with her reality manipulation, to remove France outside the realm of time and space. And replacing it with an illusion. An illusion so real that one could touch, smell, and, as the case may be, destroy without ever noticing the deference. All the while France, its population, as well as its national treasures, remained safe. Locked away completely oblivious to what had transpired.
Now
Floating just above Gambler and Esther as they confronted Egan, Wanda listened as the King of King's called the Blood Hunter's bluff. Gambler -"You really think it would be dat easy? Dat a small group of hired thugs could just skip into France and destroy it? Come now Egan, I thought you a brighter man dhen dat." chuckled the Cajun. "Show him Wanda, show dee mighty conquerer just what he's accomplished."
With a wave of her hand the air around them started to ripple. Famous landmarks began to fade, fires began to disappear. Even the illustrious Louvre began to give way and reveal the truth. What Egan had thought to have been France was in fact nothing more then an empty wasteland. A large land mass with no visible signs of civilization or life, other then the few standing in front of one another. Gambler's trademark Cheshire Cat grin consumed his face. "You see old friend? You are not dee conqueror of nations.....you are the conqueror of dirt. Now, make your play." he mocked.
