Dr. Manhattan vs SUPERMAN in a standalone thematically rich clash of the ages.

A story pondered by Geoff Johns for a while after Rebirth special #1. The impetus of which was the results of the US election but this is more an exploration on the state of the world and humanity today.

Told through pitting the Watchmen universe against DC using their two most prominent essence, Dr. Manhattan and Superman. (Apparently Superman is the reason Dr. Manhattan took curiosity in the DC Universe EEEEEEP!!!!)

Geoff Johns calls it DOOMSDAY CLOCK. He says the name has been chosen for the ominous associations it will raise in Comic readers ;) of course with allusions to both Watchmen and Superman history.

You know what, i'll just let you read The Interview.

FINALLY!

A DC universe shaking standalone with SUPERMAN at it's heart, the subject matter of which promises to be one of the most IMPORTANT Superman stories ever told!!

This the same month He comes back in the movies to a world collectively inspired, to spread hope for a better tomorrow! (If you have any snarky comments towards this statement, i implore you, just on this thread, keep them to yourself please. Thank you :) Lets try to be like Superman)

And GARY FRANK, possibly my favourite Superman artist!!!

Also, have i mentioned i LOVE Geoff Johns. yeah, I LOOOOOVE HIM!!!!

P.S- Geoff and Gary both affirm this is not a sequel nor will it touch or change anything about Watchmen. They love that book. This is something new. Gary's words according to his twitter, "Doesn't even have to be considered Watchmen Canon." Just incase anyone was on edge.

Personally, The prospect that SUPERMAN is the one who might lead the resigned God Dr.M to have a better world view. Actually the fact that he's the focus of this kind of story at all has me bouncing of the walls!

Action #979 was fire! Was literally clapping at the end. Very excited for the Revenge arc now.

I LOVE Hank Henshaw! Finally back as Cyborg Superman and that transformation and what happens after was amazing! Kicked me the in nostalgia feels.

Technically everything since Action comics #1 is canon in the ongoing saga of the DCU. It's just that universe/timeline altering events occurred :P

But concerning what counts toward the Rebirth Universe, It's a post crisis dcu merged with the post flashpoint, Dr.Manhatten meddled dcu.

I'm not sure if even this new Superman timeline is still unaffected by Dr. M and it's inferred that it still is in the recent issues of action. Maybe it's still a compacted timeline with 10 missing years.

Anyway, aside from the recent issues of Action i'm developing my own head cannon to sort stuff out. Jon is definitely a spanner in the works of that development but i'm adjusting.

Also,

If Flash 22 was an indication, things are about to get pretty interesting.

Reborn but would still like Supes's early days costume to be the jeans, cape and t-shirt look.

I'd like more of the likes of that Lois and Clark page, Love when Supes get's all passionate like that, totally badass.

The JL page did disappoint me. And like everyone, i was waiting for Supes to have his shining awesome moment but that never came. I would've accepted it if the timeless were stronger but the stupid red sun weakness was used, i hate that so much!

So far loving the current runs on the Superman books regardless but would definitely like more badass action scenes. The upcoming new revenge squad in Action might give us something. The line up of villains in the squad frankly has me wondering how in the hell Supes can even survive the story. The Justice League would have immense trouble with that group.

Hey so i'm speculating/wondering here but has Reborn effectively started toppling the dominoes that is Dr. Manhattan's meddling of the DCU? Or is this newly formed timeline for Superman compacted with years missing as well?

Spoilers for those who haven't read-

Folded continuity makes things better, i can piece things around in my head.

But the crappy part is the shortened timeline and we all know who's responsible for that. Incidentally this entire issue and the ending gives us a clear target to concentrate our frustration at and also makes me excited to see when he makes his move.

Still love the fact that such crazy reality altering forces(Dr. M) couldn't keep Superman and Lois split from each other and their true complete selves. Also, nice clear picture on how two Supermen and Lois Lanes existed at the same time.

I loved this issue a lot more than i expected to. Honestly one of my favourite single issues this year if not my favourite.

Mxyzptlk at his best, delightful and scary as hell. Loving him and his use in this story, all the meta context really does it for me (one of the reasons i like Mxy so much) like having a maniacal reader be part of the story.

A little spoiler- So loved the fact that even the tinkering busy bodies (watchmen) Mxy referred to can't keep Supes and Lois apart. Hope we learn more about that aspect in the future.

Thoroughly enjoyed this issue and have an idea of what it all means but i'll need to do a re-read to really fix on what i think the whole split between the two Supermen(or one Superman) is about. Anyway just one more issue to go!!

So basically, the face and morals of Superman is going to be based on New 52? That will suck IMO

Huh? Did you mean to quote me? Anyway imo there's no difference between the morals of the new 52 Superman and pre flashpoint Supes only one grew up with parents and one lost them early hence him being brash and rough at first.

fyi I don't count truth, don't know what the eff that was.
