Levi was born in Nazareth, in the town of Galilee. He is the son of craftsman Alphaeus, who was well-known in his home area for being able to craft or fix anything brought to his attention. From small tools to building houses, and in smaller, esoteric circles, which, paradoxically, reach farther outside the hometown, he was even known to make weapons. From ordinary guns and swords to specialized or enchanted weaponry, there was nothing he could not do. He was considered a holy man by many, blessed by God. If it could be conceived, he could make it. This was where the bulk of his income came from; most of the locals who came to him were so poor, he charged them little to nothing for work, while those who could afford to travel and had much more at stake, he knew he could go as high as he needed. He was also slick with his tongue.
Despite floating rumors, no one truly knew the secret to Alphaeus’ craft; however, it was generally accepted that he would one day pass it on to his eldest son. Levi was trained and conditioned from an early age to take on his father’s trade, and he was all set, progressing steadily, until out of nowhere, things accelerated and began progressing much too fast for the boy to handle. He began slipping, failing whenever it came to more advanced theory and techniques. Nevertheless, the man and the boy worked tirelessly, Alphaeus never once showing anger or shame for Levi.
At the age of sixteen, the reasons for the dramatic acceleration of his training became apparent. One day, without fair warning, Alphaeus took his son aside and told him simply, he himself had to leave on a journey to a faraway place for a very large, very important commission, and Levi was to be in charge of the atelier while he was gone. Levi, though dedicated, had no idea what he was going to do or how to make it work once his father had left. The demands of customers, who thought not to take it easy on the boy, were immediately too much to handle. Overwhelmed and on the verge of completely drained, he confided in his mother that he was giving up; to which she responded with a lecture about the men in their family, the line, hardships, et cetera, but letting him know that it was ultimately his decision; even still, she told him to carefully consider it. Seven days, she challenged, and she put the customers on hold for that period, for Levi to think about his decision. “But do hurry,” she cautioned. “Our living depends on you making a fast decision so that no matter what you choose, we can plan and act accordingly.”
So he took his time and contemplated, hoping seven days would be more than enough. But even on the sixth, he remained torn over his family legacy. In his mind, the choice was to give up and be a failure, or to keep at it and still be a failure. And on the seventh day….
He was still torn. His indecision by default pushed him closer toward quitting. So that night, while pondering how he’d break the news, and how his father would take it, he drifted off to sleep.
When he awoke, Levi was surprised to find his tasks were all complete, every commission finished to perfection. The customers all got their things, but he was still confused. He seems mostly oblivious to the fact of the possession, but at times he may be found in a trance-like way, murmuring strange utterances to himself. Sometimes people think he’s stupid.
Fun-fact: The nickname Biff comes from the fact he used to get in a lot of fights growing up, and as a result of these as well as other troubles he found himself in, his mother never hesitated to discipline him in public. “Biff” comes from their colloquial term for a smack upside the head and the sound it made when he was hit.
The truth of the matter is an angel fallen has entered the window of his soul, with the added effect that he was bestowed certain extraneous abilities. He may use them at any way in which the angel permits, but he may not use any hidden power the angel revokes or otherwise does not allow. Biding its time for its own power to grow, and for his body to become more accustomed to it, he is extremely limited thus far. Granted:
A slight and slow but steadily growing physical boost. His body is yet adapting to the new presence inside of it, constantly growing, but also under constant physical strain. Not from the actual power itself, but from the fact that his body is still growing into it. A delicate process, notes the angel. For if there were the slightest miscalculation, it could cause his whole body to break down and he would die. His brain is quicker and more powerful, working with heightened sensory function and increased muscle efficiency, making him stronger, faster, and able to continue far longer than a normal human even at the peak of what would normally be possible.
His reflexes and movements breach superhuman levels, thoughts and movements processing at an accelerated rate, movements such as dodging high speed ballistic projectiles or keeping pace with some cars coming almost naturally. In a straight line his speed just breaches 75 mph, capable of keeping top speed for just a short time, though, because of the strain already placed on his body. 5 tons seems to be the limit of his pressing and lifting strength, and he can leap about 30 feet from a perfectly still position.
The power of creation. Like his father, Levi (through the angel) has the ability to create something out of nothing, to project from his imagination or memory into reality. If he himself can conceive it, he can create it. Creations become stronger if he can maintain a clear picture in his mind of what he wishes to create upon making it, plus the added strength of his own willpower, with the final touch of his own energy poured into its actual projection into this world. Although stronger creations and specific creations with more powerful properties are more difficult to sustainably create. Creations can be controlled by a sort of telekinetic link. He doesn't understand this, but doesn't question it either. It's helpful, even if it doesn't work on other things.
The power of seeing. The creation power is bolstered by the ability to view most structures, be they people, a sword, a gun, or a chemical compound, and gain an intuitive understanding of structural systems working within them, further boosted by a type of X-ray ability to see through non-transparent substances. For this, he could make an excellent carpenter or repairman; televisions and many electronic systems are pretty easy, actually, but special weaponry such as those with enchantments, or normal structures with even more intricate parts take more time to grasp.
