My name is Arnold Haas. I'm a mutant. And I'm scared.

It's probably been a month.

Maybe more.

Ever since the graduation ceremony it's been harder for the alter-ego of Pinnacle to balance himself. That's all he is. The original personality for this body? No. Not anymore. The mutant right side of his brain, responsible for so many creative ideas, has begun to influence a wider spectrum of his everyday life.

Things he learned in high school that he forgot about, buried in his memory, suddenly emerge as if from nowhere. Facts about physics he just regurgitated for tests, subjects he failed at, mathematic equations that kept him up at night... they started becoming like clockwork to him.

He couldn't blame his stay at the academy. Working his way up to DSA status was rigorous, but it never involved theoretical physics or engineering. He could watch video tutorials on how basic rocket engines work, and could assemble wrist-mounted versions that propelled half his body weight into the air.

It's not like he could stop watching at any given time. He physically couldn't.

Subjects he was never interested in before suddenly became like a drug, worming inside his mind until he couldn't think of anything else. He had to learn. It became a biochemical urge.

At length, Arnold could only begin to assume that the right side of his brain was beginning to influence the left. How this could have begun to happen, he only had vague guesses at. It would be impossible for people to metaphysically alter their own genetic structure, except that is what he did on the regular with his transformations into Pinnacle.

Perhaps it could happen after all.

But then that would mean he was changing everything about himself, spurred on by the encouragement of others around him. He wasn't small-time anymore either. He had to improve in more ways than just getting a diploma. Maybe this was for the better.

At least, he hoped it was.
