New-52/Rebirth Aquaman Respect Thread [Updated 2/12/19]

"I was born Arthur Curry of Amnesty Bay, Maine. When I was a teenager, I learned that wasn't entirely true. My father told me my mother was from a mythical city. I was told my mother was the Queen of Atlantis. And that one day I would be the King of Atlantis. That day is today. Today, I am Aquaman--the King of the Seven Seas. King of an underwater society that doesn't exactly trust a leader from the surface world. King of an army that would sooner annihilate those on land than befriend them. King of a culture and a people that are not my own. But what choice do I have? This is my birthright. This is my responsibility. And I will embrace it."

Quotes:

"For years I've tried to fight my birthright. But that's over. My name is Arthur Curry. I am the King of the Seven Seas. I am Aquaman." (Aquaman Issue #17)

"When I was growing up, I didn't feel like I fit in with the people around me. I was always out of place. I didn't understand them. But fear...confusion...the feeling that the world's spinning out of control and all you can do is dig in and hang on...that I get." (Aquaman Issue #41)

"I'm land and sea. I stand guard on the line between the two and watch over both. I protect one from the other. I'm Aquaman."

This thread will be divided into the following sections:

  • Poseidon's Trident

  • Marine-Telepathy

Bio

(Aquaman Issue #00) Here's a short bio on Aquaman:

Atlantean Trident

No Caption Provided

(Aquaman Issue #00) Aquaman's Atlantean trident is stated to be indestructible. Also shows that Arthur knows where the armory is with the strongest Atlantean artifacts:

No Caption Provided

Poseidon's Trident

(Aquaman Issue #41) Aquaman's new trident, which can be used as both a short sword and a trident, was granted to him by the god of the sea Poseidon. Along with the new trident, Aquaman was also granted powers to control the wind, rain, lightning, and other elements. When it's in its sword form, Aquaman need only will it to become a trident and it stretches out to become the trident:

No Caption Provided

Magic Defense

With the blessing he received from Poseidon, Aquaman was granted a degree of defense against magic, most prominently the magic of Thule users. Here, he uses his magic trident to block a large magical blast from three Thule sorcerers:

No Caption Provided

Elemental Powers

(Aquaman Issue #41) With his new trident, Aquaman can now use elemental powers, seen here using the trident to freeze a room full of thugs in an instant by striking the ground with his weapon:

(Aquaman Issue #44) When Aquaman was attacked by Siren, Mera's sister, he was pinned against a wall by her water manipulation powers. He freed himself though by sticking his trident in sword form into the water, freezing it, as well as igniting and changing it to trident form:

(Aquaman Issue #47) Aquaman grabs an Atlantean soldier and freezes him up to his neck:

No Caption Provided

(Aquaman Issue #) Aquaman strikes down two Atlantean aircraft with summoned ice stalagmites:

No Caption Provided

(Aquaman Issue #41) Aquaman can also with his trident he can call forth lightning, doing so against the same thugs and demons he froze above. When he strikes the side of the wall with his trident, his lightning runs through to every person that was frozen and turns them to ash in seconds:

No Caption Provided

(Aquaman Issue #43) Here he summons lightning down to strike at the poison Behemoth:

No Caption Provided

(Aquaman Issue #46) Aquaman calls down lightning on a team of Atlantis's finest warriors and effectively oneshots them:

(Aquaman Issue #47) He can also fire off lightning directly from his magic trident, not always needing to call it down from the air:

No Caption Provided

(Aquaman Issue #42) Aquaman can also summon large amounts of rock, here creating large pillars of stone for citizens to escape the black, alien poison trying to consume them:

Flight

(Aquaman Issue #46) It's not your conventional flight, but Aquaman now can hover in the air:

No Caption Provided

Teleportation

(Aquaman Issue #41) On top of the addition of elemental powers, Aquaman can use his trident to teleport around the world. Here he used it to teleport from Missouri in the United States to the Amazon in South America before Atlantean ships could fire at him:

(Aquaman Issue #44) Aquaman can also teleport to other worlds, doing so here after losing his concentration after only a moment after his short fight with Siren:

Skill

This is going to be an extremely short section because I've only come across two clear-cut showing of skill for Aquaman.

(Aquaman and the Others Issue #10/#11) Aquaman easily disarms Chesire of her two swords and once he admits to not holding back anymore, stomps her in three moves flat. Cheshire is regarded as the most dangerous woman alive by both the Operative (a special agent who's in his sixties and still active) and the narrator, yet Aquaman was holding back so that he wouldn't unintentionally hurt someone "vastly inferior to him":

(Aquaman Issue #42) Aquaman fights a team of Atlantis's best highly trained warriors and prevents them from capturing him even though he was outnumbered five to one. The team consisted of King Shark, an eating machine turned barbarian; Scylla, an undersea terrorist; Charbydiss, a more dangerous eating machine than King Shark; Ch'Tok, an assassin from the Trench; and another member that Arthur actually didn't know but could tell was dangerous based on his participation in the hit squad:

Strength

(Aquaman Issue #14) Black Manta describes Aquaman as having ten times the muscle density of normal humans and nearly bulletproof skin:

No Caption Provided

(Aquaman Issue #00) Aquaman stops a speeding boat from crashing into rocks:

(Aquaman Issue #01) Aquaman easily stabs and flips over a speeding van:

(Aquaman Issue #04) With help from Mera, Aquaman pushes a large portion of an ancient Atlantean ship that was holding entrapped humans that were being used as food for the Trenchers. It's an impressive feat because they pushed the section of ship all the way from the bottom of the ocean from where there's no sunlight (anywhere from 1,000 meters or 3,280 feet down or more), as well as pushed it against the pressures of of the deep all the way to the surface. Aquaman is attacked by the Trenchers and left the pushing of the ship to Mera for a bit, but he rejoined her as soon as he closed up the Trench:

No Caption Provided

(Aquaman Issue #04) Aquaman pushes a large section of rock on top of the trench that was housing the Trenchers:

(Aquaman Issue #05) Aquaman kicks through an Atlantean jet's door:

(Aquaman Issue #07) Aquaman pulls a fishing boat through a storm:

(Aquaman Issue #12) Aquaman lifts off large pieces of rubble that had previously covered his body up to his chest:

(Aquaman and the Others Issue #05) Aquaman stabs his trident through Legend's armor even though Vostok's handguns, which should have torn the armor to shreds, could do nothing do it:

(Aquaman Issue #21) Aquaman throws a submarine from near the bottom of the ocean (at the very least more than 1,500 meters and against the pressure) all the way to the surface:

(Aquaman Issue #21) Aquaman jumps out of the water and splits a small cruise boat:

No Caption Provided

(Aquaman Issue #22) Aquaman rams an entire warship into the Dead King:

(Aquaman Issue #22) Aquaman breaks a large piece of ice sent at him by the Dead King:

No Caption Provided

(Aquaman Issue #25) Aquaman stops the Dead King from stabbing his scepter into Atlantis in order to use it's power to sink it again. This is coming at most a day after Arthur woke up from being in a coma for six months and only a few moments after he was stabbed in the stomach by his own trident. And since there seems to be many users who think this is a durability feat, claiming Aquaman took the full continent sinking force, the third scan proves that wrong. We can see the energy from the scepter lacing out and striking the nearby buildings, meaning it wasn't all focused into Arthur and he didn't tank a continent busting attack:

(Aquaman Issue #27) Aquaman throws a car with each hand at the Karaqan:

No Caption Provided

(Aquaman Issue #27) Aquaman uses a steel beam to hammer his trident through the Karaqan and send it flying through the other side:

No Caption Provided

(Aquaman Issue #28) Aquaman breaks free from the grips of many different Giant-born creatures:

(Aquaman Issue #30) Aquaman sends Hercules flying across an island with a punch:

No Caption Provided

(Aquaman Issue #37) Aquaman displays physical dominance over Gorilla Grodd after holding back in their encounter:

No Caption Provided

(Aquaman Issue #38) Aquaman takes down a large lava troll with a single punch after dodging its lava breath attack, also showing he is completely unfazed by their heat (magma has temperatures ranging from 1300 degrees F to 2400 degrees F):

(Aquaman Issue #40) Aquaman prevents the lava god Karaku from bringing his fist down on Atlanna with an uppercut hammerfist move:

No Caption Provided

(Aquaman Issue #48) Aquaman nonchalantly holds up a large section of a building to save an Atlantean woman from being crushed:

(Aquaman Annual #02) While being controlled by the Giant-born Celeana, Aquaman and Wonder Woman have a short grappling match where neither seemed to gain the advantage over the other before being frozen in stone:

Aquaman is stomped on by the Scavenger in a large suit of armor, has his faced pressed on, but is able to lift the Scavenger off of him, push him all the way to the surface, and throw him out and on the docks:

Aquaman then fights Scavenger and eventually tears up the suit:

(Justice League Issue #06) Aquaman has the strength to take out one of Darkseid's eyes:

No Caption Provided

(Justice League Issue #06) As well as the strength to pierce his skin:

No Caption Provided

(Justice League Issue #10) Aquaman casually lifts a large cruise ship (think Titanic):

No Caption Provided

(Justice League Issue #12) Aquaman injures Graves whereas Superman's Heat Vision could not:

(Aquaman Issue #05) Here's Aquaman pulling the shard of metal out of his leg:

No Caption Provided

(Aquaman Issue #10) A harpoon breaks against a young Aquaman's bare skin. It does draw blood though:

No Caption Provided

(Aquaman Issue #10) Aquaman takes a prolonged optic blast from Black Manta. Arthur notes that Manta improved his optics as he takes off his golden scale armor and reveals that he received burns on his skin, but Arthur doesn't show that he's in pain from the attack:

(Aquaman Issue #11) Aquaman jumps out of a plane and into the ocean perfectly fine:

(Aquaman Issue #13) Aquaman is first fazed by Black Manta's taser but then overpowers it and defeats Manta while still being electrocuted:

(Aquaman Issue #22) Aquaman is slammed through submarines and other wreckage after being hit by the Dead King, but would shrug it off soon after:

(Aquaman Issue #24) After just waking up from a coma he was in for six months, Aquaman jumps down a large distance, lands while cracking the ground, and isn't injured in the slightest:

No Caption Provided

(Aquaman Issue #26) Aquaman is launched into the air by Mera's Hydrokinesis to the stratosphere in an attack to gather speed for an incredible punch against the Karaqan. Aquaman appears a little dazed afterwards, but is otherwise fine:

(Aquaman Issue #27) Aquaman is stepped on by the Karaqan, is stunned for a few moments, but recovers and immediately jumps back into the fight. A few scans right after the stomp were left out because it's just a few flashbacks of Arthur talking to his father. And I don't need to remind you how big the Karaqan is:

(Aquaman Issue #29) Aquaman is thrashed and beaten by Hercules, yet comes away with just minor scratches:

(Aquaman Issue #36) Aquaman is beaten and blasted by an out-of-control Martian Manhunter but bounces right back up to try and subdue him:

(Aquaman Issue #37) Aquaman is thrashed by Gorilla Grodd but appears no worse for wear afterwards:

No Caption Provided

(Aquaman Issue #34) Aquaman survives being blasted by Chimera's acid breath, which was potent enough to melt a man to his bones in an earlier issue:

Temperature Resistance

No Caption Provided

(Aquaman Issue #45) Here's some info on the poison:

No Caption Provided

Skin Density

(Aquaman Issue #01) With his armor, Aquaman is bulletproof, and even when a bullet makes contact with his unprotected face, all it does is make a small amount of blood trickle after barely piercing his skin:

No Caption Provided

(Aquaman Issue #12) Even without his armor, Aquaman's skin is still capable of protecting him from bullets with nothing more than minor injuries on the surface of his skin:

No Caption Provided

The first one, which is called the Transitional Form, has hardened skin, enhanced skeletons, enhanced musculature, and can operate at ocean-bed depths. They're second form wasn't given a name but they take on the characteristics of an aquatic animal, like an orca, an octupus, a barracuda, and a great white. The Aqua-Marines in their normal human form are already capable of catching a bullet fired from less than ten feet away, yet Arthur was able to fight three of them and defeat their leader:

(Aquaman Rebirth Issue #15) Aquaman blocks a harpoon from Black Manta from close range:

No Caption Provided

(Justice League Rebirth Issue #) Aquaman swimming the four corners of the world. He started this about the same time the encounter with the Kindred took off the east coast of Canada and was there to help complete that battle. He also started after Superman was boomtubed into the earth and finished before Superman finished his task. The size of the four corners of the world are given context earlier in the story and included. Aquaman is fast enough for global travel to multiple locations over the course of a single battle. It's questionable how long the battle is but impressive nonetheless. Feat credit to @ashrym:

Thanks! And no, not at all. Lol. The more I read, the more I'll add to the thread. I'm just pretty busy with school and stuff though. Lol

@thevivas:Help me here. What problem has Atlanna with Arthur? Some images showed her attacking him. The only reference I have from her is the Throne of Atlantis animated film.

@shadowmaster91: The events in the movie are pretty different from the comic. In the comic, Orm never kills her, she managed to teleport away to a foreign land (can't remember the exact context) and rule an island there. When Aquaman found her, he tried telling her that he was her son, but she didn't believe him because she thought he had died with his father when the king of Atlantis at that time sent warriors to kill Arthur's dad. She attacked him because she thought Atlantis had found her (she hates them now) and was pissed that Arthur was trying to pose as her thought-to-be-dead son.

@shadowmaster91: She saved Aquaman from Karaku and then when he used his Telepathy to summon a bunch of sea creatures, he then left with Mera back to Atlantis and his own realm and left her to rule that island. She then realized that he was her actual son. I guess you could say they left on a good note.

@shadowmaster91: If anything, it's because she thought her terrible first husband killed her second, better husband and their child. But I feel you. Lol

@thevivas: Also, I forgot to ask, why are DC/Marvel's mothers so hot? Do you have any other image of her?

Love Arthur. Afraid being a blond handsome male that can control the weather with his magical indestructible tool gifted from a god like being may bring him a little too close to the god of thunder.

@ashrym: I think you cut images up too much.

This should be enough to showcase his punching strength, and it is easier to prove a point with less images. He no sells SUperman, smashes him, gets KOed by Arthur.

@ashrym: Nice, I haven't added anything from Rebirth because I'd rather read it first with my own eyes and then throw it in, but it'll be much easier with all of that. Thanks!

Added issue numbers to some of his feats, not finished with all yet. Hope this makes it look better and more official.

@thevivas Great thread.

I would just add the panel where the Operative states his jet is hypersonic from New 52 Aquaman 10, Aquaman leaping and catching the helicopter from Aquaman Rebirth 6 and Aquaman swimming from Atlantis to Amnesty Bay almost instantly to stop Shaggy Man.

@comicfan11: The Operative states that in Issue 10? I thought it was in one of the "Aquaman and the Others" issues, but thanks I'll have to skim through that one again.

The helicopter one is in there under the strength section, I believe.

And yeah I can go back and add the one where Aquaman swims all the way to Amnesty Bay.

Thanks though for reading!
