"The imagination is a weapon. Those who don't use it die first." (Ch. 04)

Some Goblin Slayer motivation.

Goblin Slayer is the main character of the series of the same name and is an increasingly popular series lately, even getting its own anime adaptation. It's a very D&D based series, with adventurers, sorcerers, goblins, hobgoblins, and set in medieval times with characters using simple melee weapons like swords and arrows. It's a very mature read, though, as there are scenes that depict a lot of blood, nudity, and even the r-word, so viewer discretion is advised. Just view this series as a slightly lighter version of Berserk.

There will be feats displayed from the original Goblin Slayer and the side story, Goblin Slayer Side Story: Year One. The citations will now read GS for the original series and GSSS for the side story.

This thread will be divided into the following categories:

General Terms

  • Adventurer: Goblin Slayer takes place in a world where adventurers are placed into certain ranks based on their skill level, power level, and experience and go on quests based on those different types of levels. • Of all of the demons and monsters that inhabit the world of Goblin Slayer, goblins are the most abundant. -- (GS Ch. 03)

Gear/Equipment

No Caption Provided
  • Ever since he started his adventuring, Goblin Slayer has been buying the same cheap equipment. He does this because he knows it's not going to last him forever and that it only needs to serve its purpose, outside of him not having a lot of money to begin with. -- (GS Ch. 31)

Armor

  • Here's the pieces to Goblin Slayer's armor. It's made cheap so that he doesn't have to spend a long time waiting for repairs or new pieces and he uses a simple sword because need more than that to just kill goblins. -- (GS Ch. 10)
  • Goblin Slayer's armor is leather armor that makes it easier to move, he wears chainmail underneath, wears a helmet for protection, and uses a short sword and a small shield, knowing that he'll mostly be fighting in small caves. -- (GS Ch. 05)
  • Goblin Slayer's armor protects him from a goblin's knife. -- (GS Ch. 01)
  • Goblin Slayer's armor protects him from a goblin's arrow. -- (GS Ch. 27)
  • Goblin Slayer wears chain mail under his armor, so things like darts aren't going to pierce and affect him. -- (GS Ch. 35)

Bow and Arrow

  • Goblin Slayer uses a bow and arrow with great skill to take the ear off of a goblin and then fires another set of arrows that light up an old elven fortress. -- (GS Ch. 04)
  • He then takes out another goblin by putting an arrow through its eye socket before taking out another that had fired a rock at him by putting an arrow through his chest. -- (GS Ch. 04)
  • Goblin Slayer purposely keeps arrows with loose arrowheads on them so that if they break off and stay inside a goblin, the goblin will soon get lead poisoning that will affect some members of their nest. -- (GS Ch. 41)
  • Goblin Slayer headshots three goblins with his arrows, managing to shoot two that were dragging a young girl. -- (GS Ch. 41)

Knife

  • Goblin Slayer carries at least four knives with him that he can use for melee purposes or for throwing. -- (GS Ch. 02)
  • Goblin Slayer hears a goblin in a tunnel ahead, throws one of his torches to get its attention, and then throws a knife accurately at it to score a hit in it's throat. When asked if he could see in the dark, he simply said that he's practiced. -- (GS Ch. 02)
  • Goblin Slayer kills a goblin by throwing what looks like a small sword at him. -- (GS Ch. 30)

Southern Style Throwing Knife

  • Goblin Slayer was given a large Southern Style Throwing Knife by the equipment store worker in town. The blade can spin and it's meant more for cutting than it is for stabbing. -- (GS Ch. 31)
  • Goblin Slayer uses his Southern Style Throwing Knife to slice off the arm of a Dark Elf who had launched himself in the air. -- (GS Ch. 40)

Sling

Healing Potion

  • Goblin Slayer carried at least one Healing Potion with him that when used, dulls the pain of an injury. -- (GS Ch. 02)

Rope

  • Goblin Slayer carries rope with him in his pack. He used this to create a trap for a hobgoblin, making a tripwire to cover his and his partner's escape. -- (GS Ch. 02)

Gasoline

  • Goblin Slayer carries a small vile with gasoline in it, or as some others call it Madea's Oil or petroleum. -- (GS Ch. 02)
    • He pours it on a hobgoblin he killed so that after he threw a torch at it, it burst into flames and killed at least two more goblins coming after him. -- (GS Ch. 02)

Magic Scroll

  • Goblin Slayer carries a magic scroll with him in cases of emergencies. Magic scrolls contain magics from long ago that are now lost to the world but can only be used once. -- (GS Ch. 06)
    • Goblin Slayer's magic scroll is a Gate Scroll, linked to a specific destination that Goblin Slayer set up beforehand. Once he uses it, the scroll brings that destination to the forefront. His Gate Scroll was linked to the bottom of the ocean where the pressure is extremely high, which allowed him to cut clean through the ogre and the large fireball he was preparing to cast. -- (GS Ch. 08/09)

Smoke Grenade

  • Goblin Slayer has a primitive smoke grenade made from pine sap and sulfur which produces a heavy, poisonous smoke. -- (GS Ch. 16)

Pepper Grenade

  • Goblin Slayer has a small vile filled with rushed pepper and powdered viper that disperses in the air and causes immense pain by getting in the target's eyes and mouth. -- (GS Ch. 19)

Charcoal

  • Goblin Slayer carries a small bag of charcoal with him that he can use to wrap up in a cloth to protect from poison gas. -- (GS Ch. 21)

Skill/Experience

No Caption Provided
  • Goblin Slayer fights a group of goblins, starting off the fight by killing one with a pickax throw before engaging with his usual sword and shield combo. He then kicks up an ax and uses that to finish off what goblins are left. -- (GS Ch. 30)
  • Goblin Slayer's father was a hunter and his mother gathered medicinal herbs so he can tell them apart. He also carries a sack of dried vegetables including walnuts, onions, garlic, and other useful seasonings. -- (GS Interlude: Of a Perfectly Ordinary Evening)
  • Goblin Slayer starts his day off before dawn and patrols around the farm he lives on. He does this knowing that it's perfect weather for goblins to attack and because it also gives him some more time to train and practice before others wake up. -- (GS Ch. 31)
  • Goblin Slayer views his equipment as nothing more than mere consumables because he knows they will wear and won't last forever and takes note that he can always pick up other weapons from his enemies. Although, he will diligently work to keep his weapons in good condition so as to not start a fight with a bad one. -- (GS Ch. 31)
  • Goblin Slayer spent most of the day beforehand sharpening and making wooden stakes and then spent hours in the night digging many pitfalls and placing the spikes at the bottom of them. Goblin Slayer was convinced that the goblins in the area had been too nonchalant and were planning something, and with a festival coming up for the town, he thought it would be a perfect time for them to attack. He dug his pitfalls and covered them in a direction he believed they would attack if they chose to. -- (GS Ch. 33)
  • Goblin Slayer is able to notice what type of sword is being used against him and that the wielder is comfortable with it as it's pointed at his neck. -- (GS Ch. 33)
  • Goblin Slayer is able to throw every single one of six small pebbles into a frog statue's mouth during a festival. He then tells some younger people around him that the trick is practice. This could be just for comedic purposes, but the elf archer in his party couldn't even land one pebble when she did it. -- (GS Ch. 33)
  • Goblin Slayer knows to avoid fish in the wild because the areas you find them can often breed bugs and cause food poisoning. -- (GS Ch. 34)
  • Facing an adversary in a dark room and not knowing their whereabouts, Goblin Slayer kicks a lantern across the room to help illuminate the rest of the space and thus forces a Rhea to come out of hiding and attack him. Goblin Slayer then defends against all of his attacks despite fighting a smaller and quicker opponent. This is a good example that Goblin Slayer isn't just built to fight goblins who don't showcase any noteworthy skill themselves. -- (GS Ch. 35)
  • Continuing the fight from above, the Rhea throws two knives at Goblin Slayer that he notices are coated in poison. This makes him realize that the Rhea isn't limited to aiming for vital points as any break of the skin will work, and correctly blocks a strike that was then aimed at his knee. He is then struck by a paralyzing dart in his right hip afterwards and pretends that it affected him, falling to the ground. This makes the Rhea come closer and try to kick him while he's down, which allows Goblin Slayer to catch him by surprise and stab him. Goblin Slayer made this call after realizing in their short exchange that he needed the element of surprise because the Rhea was too quick. -- (GS Ch. 35)
  • Goblin Slayer knows how to make a small ballista with sharpened wooden stakes. -- (GS Ch. 37)
  • Goblin Slayer set up a trap where he made a decoy soldier appear to be hiding behind a tree and when a group of goblins attacked it, it set off a swinging spiked ball that killed a large number of them. -- (GS Ch. 37)
  • Goblin Slayer throws his sword and hits a goblin standing on a roof. -- (GS Ch. 41)
