Respect Smokey
Smokey is one of the only intelligent members of the Crossed and serves as a leader for many of them. The Crossed are humans infected by a disease (spread through bodily fluids; blood, spit, etc.) that makes them seemingly immune to pain, highly aggressive/violent, and increases their primal urges, leading many of them to engage in sexual and/or murderous acts. Somehow, Smokey has been able to resist these urges (mostly) and is capable of long-term planning, using his strength and intelligence, he leads many of the Crossed throughout the U.S. and hopes to rebuild society in his image.
NOTE: Many of the scans in this RT are NSFW as Crossed: Badlands is an incredibly violent and uncensored comic.
Table of Contents
- Strength
- Durability
- Speed
- Intelligence
- Infection
1.0 Strength
Smokey is larger than any other Crossed in the entire series and uses his strength to inspire (and rule over) the other Crossed.
- Crossed: Badlands #29 - Sends two Crossed flying backwards with a single arm.
- Crossed: Badlands #29 - Swings his axe with a single hand and decapitates a member of the Crossed.
- Crossed: Badlands #30 - Lifts a grown man over his head with a single arm.
- Crossed: Badlands #30 - Snaps a Crossed's neck.
- Crossed: Badlands #30 - Throws his axe throw the windshield of a helicopter into the head of it's pilot, also throws a Crossed into the propeller blades of the helicopter as it tries to fly away.
- Crossed: Badlands #31 - Fights his way though a large horde of Crossed, slicing many of them apart with his axe.
- Crossed: Badlands #32 - Slices a person in half with his axe, using it one-handed.
- Crossed: Badlands #32 - Cuts an assault rifle in half with his axe.
- Crossed: Badlands #32 - Snaps a Crossed's neck, again.
- Crossed: Badlands #32 - Cuts through a horde of Crossed.
- Crossed: Badlands #94 - Draws blood with a single backhand.
- Crossed: Badlands #95 - Throws his axe (from a reasonable distance) into the head of a survivor.
- Crossed: Badlands #95 - Crushes a man's skull in between his hands.
- Crossed: Badlands #97 - Dismembers several Crossed.
- Crossed: Badlands #99 - Crushes a man's skull in between his hands, again.
- Crossed: Badlands #100 - Snaps a man's neck, for the third time.
2.0 Durability
As a member of the Crossed Smokey feels no pain; however, he seems to have a higher durability than other members.
- Crossed: Badlands #32 - Doesn't react to small arms (pistol) fire.
- Crossed: Badlands #32 - Survives being enveloped by flame with no visible damage/scarring.
- Crossed: Badlands #94 - Leaps from a helicopter as it's falling and survives without harm.
3.0 Speed
Members of the Crossed have no enhanced speed, but Smokey had a display of quickness.
- Crossed: Badlands #29 - Slices the fingers off of a gunman before he can fire.
4.0 Intelligence
Smokey is one of the few Crossed (along the the Surgeon and the Twins) who retained some degree of intelligence. This is what makes him one of the deadlier of the Crossed.
NOTE: He isn't super-smart; however, he shows rational thinking unlike other members of the Crossed, which is what I want to display here.
- Crossed: Badlands #30 - Takes steps of self preservation, unlike the other Crossed.
- Crossed: Badlands #31 - Is observed reading a survivor's journal.
- Crossed: Badlands #93 - Sabotages several vent's that were bringing clean oxygen into a survival bunker to force the survivors to leave.
Smokey also tries to unite several Crossed factions, and is moderately successful. He does create a small community (with the Twins) in which there is a hierarchy and order; however, this falls apart when the Twins cast him out, as their whole deal was violence & chaos.
5.0 Infection
Like all of the Crossed his bodily fluids cause non-infected survivors to become infected, thus expanding the ranks of the Crossed.
- Crossed: Badlands #30 - Infects a survivor with a kiss.
- Crossed: Badlands #32 - Infected another survivor with a kiss.
It takes only seconds for people to become infected. It's also worth noting that animals are immune to infection.
Conclusion
Smokey is low street tier in his feats, but his ability to endure pain and pass on the infection via bodily fluids makes him a slightly more dangerous threat than some others in this tier.
A neat character in a bizarre series (seriously, Crossed: Badlands is pretty messed up) and I'm glad they brought him back for several stories.
As always, hope you enjoyed the thread & look out for more in the future!
