Most Anticipated Comic Movies

A lot of comic movies are coming out in the coming years, and I'm looking forward to some of them. This is a list of the comic movies I'm most looking forward to, with a little explanation to why I'm looking forward to it.

There were a couple movies I couldn't find pages for when searching, so I just used the character page instead.

List items

  • I thought X-Men: Days of Future Past was the best comic movie ever made, so naturally I'm excited for a sequel with the same director & cast. More of Michael Fassbender is always a good thing to me. I'm really looking forward to more of James McAvoy as Charles (and to see him bald). Apocalypse, even if I'm not in love with his design (doesn't look bad at all, and I like some aspects of it, but I think it could be better) looks like he'll be a great villain. I'm interested in seeing what they do with the young versions of Nightcrawler, Cyclops, Jean, & Storm. There looks to be a lot of interesting plot points to the movie (I'm especially interested in the more biblical stuff they brought up in the trailer). Overall, it's just a follow up to a movie I loved with a lot of interesting things happening.

I only have two issues with what I've seen so far: 1) I just don't like Jennifer Lawrence and she looks to be phoning it in here. But, that didn't keep me from loving DOFP, so it shouldn't keep me from liking this. 2) I'm a bit concerned that the huge amount of characters in this movie will prevent a lot of them from getting a lot of screen time (I'm especially worried about this happening to Erik). But I'm still excited for this despite those worries.

  • Having what looks to be a decent version of Colossus (and him getting to actually say something and do something) is enough for this movie to already be in the top 3. Having what looks to be a good adaption of Deadpool, played by a good actor that's great for the role, in what looks to be very entertaining & funny just makes me even more excited. The trailers have been fantastic and set up the movie's tone nicely (their music choice was perfect), and that test footage showed a couple of years ago looked great and is what I want the whole movie to be. Out of all the upcoming comic movies, this also just feels/looks like a comic the most to me. I'm very excited for this. I have a good feeling about it, and I think it should live up to expectations. Early reactions have been positive so far from what I've heard, which is good to hear.

  • I was torn between this or Deadpool for the #2 spot. I eventually went with Deadpool since I'm a bit more familiar with him than some characters here, but I'm still really looking forward to Suicide Squad. The entire premise is great. It has some characters I like (like Harley, Deadshot, & Croc). The first look we got was great, and the official trailer looked really good. I like the trailer the more I watch it. It felt unique and like it established its own tone from other comic movie trailers (that often feel generic & boring), and was really well-made. What adds to me excitement even more is how good some of the characters look (like Harley, Deadshot, Croc, Katana, Boomerang, & Diablo).

My only concerns so far is that Joker looks horrible, and Jai Courtney is in it. That's pretty much it though, so I've got a good feeling about this one.

  • I don't read or talk about her as much as I should, but I love Wonder Woman. She's a great character with a fantastic & interesting world surrounding her. She seems like a character that would be perfect for a film, so I'm hoping it lives up to how good it could be. I'm not a huge fan of the idea of the World War II setting, but it could be done well and doesn't kill any hype for me. I heard they're going with the origin where she's the daughter of Zeus, which I do find interesting, even if I'd prefer another origin.

As I'm writing this, I'm realizing I don't have much information to say a lot about the movie, but I've heard nothing bad so far and have a good feeling about it, so I'm still looking forward to it.

My biggest concern is Gal Gadot, as I'm not sure how well she'll do. Right now I'm just waiting to see how she does in BvS. A good performance there will probably make me more excited for this, but a bad performance could kill my excitement for it. But for now, I have a good feeling about it (like I said earlier) and am looking forward to it a lot.

It's also coming out on my birthday, which I think is cool.

  • Wolverine 3

Hard one to talk about since we know very little. What we do know is it's Hugh Jackman's final film as Wolverine. That's enough for me to be interested, as I'm curious to see how they'll end it. I've also liked both previous Wolverine movies and most X-Men movies, which gives me more reason to look forward to it since they have a good track record. I've heard it's gonna based on the Old Man Logan story, which I haven't read, but it sounds like it could make for an interesting movie (assuming it's true). Personally, I'm really hoping they introduce X-23.

  • The sequel to Kingsman: The Secret Service

Does this count? I know the movie was based on a comic. Not sure if the sequel still is, but I'm counting it.

I loved Kingsman: The Secret Service and thought it was a very fun movie. I know nothing about it, but I'm really looking forward to the sequel.

  • I'm not super excited about this movie. I wasn't the biggest fan of Man of Steel, the trailers have been pretty meh so far, and there's a few things that I don't like and keep obsessing over (Jesse Eisenburg, the awful Batsuit, etc.). But I'm still interested in this movie though, and feel it deserves a mention because of that. I'm very interested in the parts to this movie that look to be following up from Man of Steel's plot and focusing on the public's view of Superman (that's what the trailer looked like it was doing at least). I'm very excited for Wonder Woman's movie debut (even if I would prefer for her to debut in a solo movie). And I'm interested to see how this does setting up the DC Movie Universe. Even if it fails at delivering anything good for what I'm interested in, it should have good action & visuals, so I'll have that to enjoy regardless of the film's quality.
