Biological Imperative

Metroid Prime Soundtrack: Inside the Crashed Space Pirate frigate

It was approximately one month after the assault.

A single lone hunter swiftly weaves it's way through the water. Webbed feat and a respiratory system designed to allow it to breath most ideally underwater allowed it the performance required for it to never need to accomplish it's designated task. To scout and to hunt.

The Blue whale was sizeable beast for an earthly mammal. Coming in at a maximum of 181 tons and at a length 98 meters, the creature was the largest of any natural creature that existed on earth. At least, as far as man's records went.

No Caption Provided

The call was made. The creature was adequate for it's designed purpose. It dwarfed a hunter in size. It's claws would cleave through it's thick blubber hide easily, but a single slap might be something akin to being hit by a semi truck. Less than that's it's hide was thick, and the creature resisted more than a concrete wall would. Making a sizeable hole would take multiple cuts. Too much effort. It was far from efficient. And it was unnecessary.

*SPLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH*

The New God of Gluttony burst from the water with 181 tons of meat in it's mouth, the momentum of it's charge carrying it to the surface with it's prize caught in between it's enormous jaws. Vibranium teeth with edges honed to an edge atoms cut a swath through it's flesh while pressures akin to that of a diamond forge crushed bones to dust. With it's prize in mouth and no need to stay on the surface, the creature dives down. Only a large pool of blood left in it's wake. It would surely attract packs of sharks. Killers whales. Perhaps other predators that usually inhabit the ocean.

More food for the the collective.

Over ninety five percent of the world's oceans remain largely unexplored by human kind. It made the ideal candidate for method of travel. The sky? Man was there. They had satellites in space. Man was annoying. The ocean? Satellites cannot scan the ocean, for it defeats all manner of electromagnetic radiation by nature of being a giant conductor. Visible light in itself was a luxury in the murky deep, and sound was usually a far better means of navigating. The speed of sound was faster in water at over four thousand feet per second and could travel for vast distances measurable in miles. However, it was less ideal in that it lacked the same degree of energy for diverse life. The ocean, was mostly a fridge, cold and unwecloming of greedy life that need large amount of energy.

For the first time in a long time, it's immense size had become it's greatest detriment. 181 tons of whale meat was hardly enough to sustain the 13,000 ton monster, it having lost over 65% of it's mass. The whale was for the collective that lived with it within the waters. Their systems were designed to more adequately process organic life than Nabuu. They were built to last and to have endurance. They could sustain themselves wholly on their own while the God of Gluttony starved. Chunks ripped off the whale were simply to feed the offspring within it. And nothing else.

Vibranium Armoring remained, and it got in the way of allowing sunlight to reach it in shallower waters. The creature was tall, but lanky. A shell of it's former self. And not one small enough to survive from mere fish. The Timesiphon had locked it's Q mirror in some sort of spacetime field and robbed it of it's unnatural source of energy. Instead, it's body had moved to consuming pockets of natural gas for itself. Megajoules of energy rest in merely a few pounds. Enough to sustain it. But this was disruptive to the echosystem. Invariably, it would attract the attention of societies the Ancient Nabuu had encountered in the past. Civilizations it knew existed below the surface and took conscious steps to avoid. It was weak and in no condition for such encounters. Even if it was still yet difficult to harm.

But it would never allow something so trivial as a small anomaly in the fabric of spacetime impede it's objectives. It would adapt and overcome, as it always had. It's mind, was one of the greatest tools in it's arsenal.

The Master required his servants more than ever, and they lived to serve for no purpose greater than the continued propagation of the whole on this planet. And the next. And so, they could search the oceans tirelessly in their search for something to sustain him. Their search spanned continents, over the course of months. Land, sea and air. But. Specifically, the chosen were the most key. For they took the very life forms that were the dominant species on the planet, and allowed the beast to use those advantages for itself. A flock could fly a long ways, and could easily be mistaken for birds. Ideal for carrying messages.

A single man appeared dove to the water. A week of being fed mutagen made him able to develop apparatus to live underwater. And he traveled far. But his journey had come an end.

Thousands of feet beneath the wave, the creature glowed so the man could see him, spinning around to gaze into the eyes of an entity that still yet dwarfed him. To this man? The creature was nothing less than a god. A being who had so generously helped it and helped them to where they are today. A great, and benevolent spirit who had chosen them to live above all those.

But Gods had enemies. Other Gods. The False Deities who rampaged all throughout the world. They had to be destroyed. Nothing was unkillable. Not even a God, it so seemed. So? Then it must be that one would follow that which was most righteous. The being who was best for the people. So to did the man, a savant in knowledge, ascertain common knowledge of what humans called "Aircraft Carriers". So it seemed to that earth had achieved a small fraction of the power of the atom. Two percent. But this was magnitudes above the oil it normally carried.

It would due for now.

(The music stops here ;P)

Days later....

The ship shook.

"Send out a distress signal!"

"Open fire! Open fire!"

"But Sir! It's on the main deck!"

"I said OPEN FIRE!"

It's arms hugged the carrier before anything could even contemplate getting off the deck. A heavy thing. Over a hundred thousand tons. It was enough the Nabuu holding onto it was far from enough to bring it down. The creature from the perspective of humans, came from nowhere. It had no engines for their sonar to pick up on. It came in the dead of night where the wake it's movement created was invisible. And it held itself dangerously close to the vessel. Three bladed tails rose from the water, and the choice was made. Fire on the beast. Or let it drag the crew of 5,000 down with the functionally floating city.

To call Nabuu's emission an electromagnetic pulse was slightly inaccurate. This implied that it was brief. That it stopped. Rather, it was an emission of electromagnetic energy so intense that it fried all electronics in the area. Aircraft already in the sky. Communication gear instantly exploded, and parts of the deck near the Apical Predator had begun to melt.

The artillery rounds roared forth with enough rounds to rightfully rip skyscrapers in half. Armor piercing rounds achieved pressures akin to the core of the earth for a small period of time. The entire front part of the deck was cleared of personel. From the bridge the watched. The smoke cleared, and the creature seemed to have been moved by the blast. But ultimately, that was it. Clearing smoke showed no sign of actual damage from the creature.

It turned towards the remaining carrier battle group, it's mouth agape it inhaled and then from it's mouth, a wave of blackness jut out from it. The Flock flew forth out of it's mouth like a laser beam of teeth, flying towards the destroyers, cruisers. Their teeth gnawing through glass and steel with with chainsaw like efficiency. One can imagine what this did to crew. Nabuu had learned that human were fond of transmitting information. Thus, none of them could be allowed to survive. Some people who were so inclined to abandon ship would soon find that they wished to find sharks in the water. Sharks did not purposely seek to devour people.

*SCREEEEEEEEEEEEECH*

It's massive claws make short work of the steel, and cut through the core. It's mouth open, it's tongue tasted the air until it was met with the sweet sensation of Gamma Rays. The schematic was correct, and with it, Nabuu was able to precisely carve out the core of the carrier's power plant, ripping it out with little resistance. It looked, and if were capable of facial expression, it would be content.

Looking off, it saw that the flock had already collectively begun to sink some of the ships, Swarms of flying teeth tearing the steel of the hull apart as they flew around it like a swarm of bees. Men and women yelled inconsequentially as the ocean ran red with their blood, unable to possibly combat the things within them. As it stood on the flight deck of the carrier to get a good bird's eye view of the land, it saw floating slabs of steel. More relevant to Nabuu? They were easily retrievable pieces of evidence.

*SPLASH*

One by one, the rest of the battle group fell. Giant Vibranium Claws leaving irreparable holes in hulls and smashing them to the ground. With but one final call, the swarm of Flock returned, entering through it's open jaw and sliding in comfortably through various orifices in the body made to accommodate them. With no further reason to remain on the surface, the creature sank beneath the waters with everything else.

The enriched Uranium ultimately proved to be quiet the power source. 190 Megawatts was enough to live comfortably. For it to even grow and live sustain-ably for a while. But ultimately, if it was going to melt the vacuum, it would ultimately require more energy. More power. Much more. Perhaps man was so content as to allow the evolution of their bodies to be content. The Collective knew the God of Gluttony was seldom satisfied.

So the search continues.

The Collective (Faction)

"The fiercest serpent may be overcome by a swarm of ants."

No Caption Provided

The creature called the Nabuu is known as a being that warps everything it so treads, mutating life forms into something else more foreign, more alien from life. The amount of it's own bio-mass is rivaled, by that of what is called simply, the collective.

Nabuu is a being that needs no names to identify or communicate with it's spawn. And so, mostly men are the ones to name the creatures. Few have encountered them long enough to be studied, for the creatures dislike being watched. The purpose of the collective is to further Nabuu;s own objective. They are, in a way, an extension of itself, and host a biomass that can grow to easily dwarf that of Nabuu and most any other Kaiju itself.

Some rumor that, the swarm in itself is capable of consuming entire worlds.

Hive mind:Functionally, the collective is an enormous collective consciousness. Despite what one might think, each organism can and does operate with a degree of independence, but their goals are oriented towards the benefit of the whole and the propgation of it's species.

Nabuu easily occupies the largest part of this mind, it's brain like a giant supercomputer that guides them, but Nabuu's death or incapacitation would not bring about their end. Rather than a brain, Nabuu can be seen as a general. It's death would be disastrous but ultimately would not lead to the immediate death of the hive mind. Instead, the collective would put it's mind together and work as one sort of unified entitiy, just without Nabuu's vast wealth of knowledge.

The Hive mind as a whole, renders the entire army resistant to telepathy. Fucntionally, the more there are in a single concentrated area, the harder it becomes.

Radiation Absorption:Most all of the swarm has the ability to feed on ambient Gamma rays, usually produced by Nabuu to feed the beings around him in the abscence of food. However, this default state does very little to allow continuous reproduction. Particularly if Nabuu leaves.

Vore

No Caption Provided

Radiation Absorption:The Vore has the ability to absorb nuclear and electromagnetic radiation in a way not disimiliar from photosynthesis, hosting a wide array of melanin that constantly varies with it's environment, in order to absorb the most ideal type of radiation. This enables the Vore, to survive on most any planet with an abundance or energy and atmospheres.

Bio-mass consumption: More often than not, the Vore will adapt to be able to consume the most abundant source of life with nearly a hundred percent efficiency. More often than not, these are plants, microbes or other such products. (Such as oil and natural gas.) Small parts of it can be oriented towards trapping and ensnaring animals however.

Growth: The Vore can move and grow extremely quickly, depending on how much energy and biomass there is present. Eerily enough, it is not too disimiliar from the concept of grey goo, and can move as quickly to consume as three miles per hour. However, the cost is that the bigger it becomes, the more it takes to sustain it, like any organism. Thankfully, it does not use much energy, and it can propagate functionally in any place where any kind of life can live.

Environmental Weaponization
Environmental Weaponization

Environmental Manipulation:The Vore can exert pressure in order to otherwise pressure or exert force on it's environement. It can adjust the friction, angling of the ground, cause large structures to crumble and generally influence all aspects of the area it grows within.

From the environment, small portions may feed off the resources as a whole to become large movable limbs and spikes of varying shapes and sizes, which may jutt up from the ground, or even simply cause rocks to fall or areas to give way. Sometimes, the Vore may even decrease the friction in an area, or increase it to the point of causing certain areas to stick to whatever it touches.

Vore Seed: "Seeds"or eggs of varying sizes that can be carried by creatures as large as Nabuu and as small as hunters. These seeds can emb themselves in most sources of energy and thusly, grow to feed off whatever source of chemical energy it is given. It can eat the things in the soil. It can grow to feed from waste in the sewers, or eat a pile of nuclear byproducts.

It can even grow inside of a human being, or superhuman, and grow to feed off their energy, even controlling them like a puppet to make them a "zombie" of sorts.

Hunters

No Caption Provided

Hunters are the breadth of the collective's ground force, a versatile creature capable of fufilling many rolls, from scouting to direct attack.

Monomolecular claws and teeth:The claws of a hunter are capable of cleaving through most materials with varying degrees of efficiency. It may easily burrow into concrete and lop through type III Bulletproof armor with perhaps moderate difficulty. The thing's claws can cut into the fuel tank of an armored personal carrier and understandably, slice through ordinary, unarmored human beings as if they were air.

Echolocation/Sonar: Hunters are capable of echo-locating in open air, either through passive methods using ambient sounds, or through producing high pitched sounds itself. Their range is roughly out to 300 yards at their loudest. The act of active echolocation often gives warning of their approach. However, it can easily be masked to sound like any number of wildlife.

Enhanced Senses

  • Smell:Roughly on par with an earthly bloodhound. This means that, a hunter needs only a few molecules to actually defend something. They immune to being masked by things such as bleach and convetnional scent maskers.
  • Sight: Perfect vision in most conditions, in tandem with night vision and the ability to track thermal signatures like that of a hawk.
  • Hearing:A very high range of frequencies far beyond the spectrums of human hearing. A hunter can catch a heartbeat in dead silence out to twenty feet away.
  • Taste:The hunter can determine the composition of most anything that enters it's mouth, down to the last molecule. It knows how nutritious anything is, and can tell if something is poisoned. Should it's snout be disabled, it may taste that air like a snake and gather rough estimate of it's composition.

Superhuman Strength:Hunters have a high degree of strength relative to a human. Most can easily tear the limbs and heads off a human. Larger, seven foot tall (on all fours) can tip over cars.

Venom: Each one has a a chemically inert sac of Hydrofluoric Acid that it can spit out in a jetstream at an effective range of around twenty feet.

Flock

No Caption Provided

The Flock are an army of what can be described by many as "wings with teeth." The Flock fly about with their primary purpose being destruction (and often devouring) or the enemy. It can be easy to think of them functionally as flying piranahs, capable of whizzing through the sky at maddening speeds.

However, they serve greater purpose. Indeed, they Flock are designed to utterly dominate the sky through sheer density and to act as a shield for their master. Their razor sharp teeth can be comprised of any number of materials, with a select few having segments of vibranium tips embed in their teeth, ideal for tearing into the flesh of most any superhuman. However, most simply are content with a forged diamond. With these teeth, they can fly mouths open and act as an area denial device.

Their speed and potential overspecialization, becomes hindering to a point. The Flock functionally has a very small digestive system by the sheer nature of it's design and constantly burns through it's energy reserves to overcome the tensile strength. Thusly, their numbers can be rather limited by the amount of actual food available.

Strength:Flock vary in size and shape. Some are as large as an average birds, while others can grow to be the size of a large dog. In great numbers, they can carry off fully grown human males to be eaten mid-air. Woah to the being who can regenerate infinitely, for they lone the Flock an infinite supply of food.

No Caption Provided

Their bite strength is measurable somewhere in the tons, and while unable to necessarily bite anything, the sharpness of their teeth lets them cut most materials with diamond teeth, and to be able to pierce functionally anything with Vibranium teeth.

Speed:The Flock can fly at approximately 250 miles per hour, speeds akin to a drag racer, but in the air. They can turn on a dime like a bat and maneuver with a bat like efficiency.

Monomolecularly edged Teeth:As previously mentioned, they are made of diamond or vibranium (in small amounts, due to the difficulty Nabuu has in producing it. The teeth are sharp enough to cut into anything, but how deep (even with vibranium) depends upon

The Chosen

No Caption Provided

Humans turned into forces of the Nabuu by the Vore. Their anatomy is changed in order to make for ideal purposes of weapons, but their true use among the human population is far more serious. The Chosen bring information to Nabuu, and they still retain memories of their past life to key the World Eater in to aspects of civilization. Some among them are even allowed to retain their full intelligence and will in exchange for loyal service to the Titan God of Terraformation.

There are two classes of chosen.

Lesserchosen have had their minds turned into that of a wild beast, answering more or less only to Nabuu and of little mental capacity that renders them capable of actually understanding the memories they have. Instead, they view their memories in a way not too dissimilar of a Dog watching a TV. They gather information, but know nothing of what to make of it.

No Caption Provided

Greaterchosen retain their full intelligence and serve Nabuu willingly. They serve as often, tacticians, scouts, information gathers and individuals spent on complex and specialized tasks in the service of the greater collective, something that requires a general human level of intelligence. Not only this, but they can alter their anatomy to be designed however it is they see fit. Some can look just like a normal human at the surface and others can look like monsters that are only vaguely humanoid at best. As such, they tend to be physically superior to their lesser kin.

Neural Drain:The chosen have a specialized ability that enables them to gather information from humans, metahumans and other forms of sentient life. Parts of the brain store large swaths of memories, and are properly reallocated (They in actuality have very vast amount of memories) to be able to accommodate the draining of another brain.

From any number of areas, from the face to the chest, the drain uses tendrils that easily conform to fit snugly through any orifice (Mouth, eyes, ears, nose) and from that point they can molecularly integrate their brains with the brains of the user, using chemical reactions to manipulate the very nervous system of their victim. From there, it can invasive view and bring about all memories through the user's life.

The rapid chemical reaction and utter ravaging of the brains structure, renders most victims dead in minutes.

Superhuman Strength:The creatures have a high degree of explosive strength. A casual swat from one can easily pick men up off the ground and send them several meters away. One can usually leap some twenty feet into the air, and scale buildings with a Gorilla like Grace.

Superhuman Durability:They have a high degree of resistance to conventional heat, directed energy weapons and to chemical reactions, and usually are too durable to be put down by mere. They however, cannot withstand prolonged exposure to fires, chemical fires and other weapons, and lack defenses against attacks outside of the nature of their strength.

Ravagers

No Caption Provided

Ravagers are the monster's functional equivalent to a tank. Their larger size makes them the most rare, and they normally feed on the flesh spawn of the Vore for sustenance in the absence of actual food. This makes their main duty to protect the Vore, and to strike at core points in the battle where it's strength, toughness and other abilities are needed. Otherwise, they normally spend their time digging tunnels in large clumps for any number of purposes, sometimes even in solid rock.

Strength:A Ravager has sufficient strength to smash through rock and concrete, to flip tanks, damage them with it's strikes and to send a person a foot ball field's length with a swat.

Durability: A simple way to put them is that they are simply as tough as a main battle tank, and more than ten times more flexible. They are capable of shrugging off small arms fire, large explosions and RPGs to the point of seeming immune to man portable human weaponry. They can withstand temperatures of roughly 2000 degrees Fahrenheit for short periods of times. They absorb radiation well, but their increased strength leaves them with a lesser thermal resistance. In truth, however, any attack that can destroy or damage a tank, can wound a Ravanger.

Claws: Sharp enough to rend through steel and concrete.
