Possibly, but even IF Dr Spiderpus bonds with Carnage--which I don't think Otto's ego will allow--he'd clearly notice the obvious drawback. That and it's safe to assume Otto knows who Carnage is and would simply destroy him outright.

@bigtewell: Agreed. The Goblin King arc I kinda get taking as long as they have. At least when he pops back up with his new criminal-clout, it won't be laughably abrupt. But yeah, the pacing seems frantic, life they're trying to tell as much story as possible before Pete gets back.

Also, Slott and Yost both seem to be spamming the hell out of the word "Superior." We get it,Ock thinks he's better than Peter.

All in all though, I'm really digging this "villain wins" story. Excited to see the fallout from Dr Spiderpus

Hello Viners. Thought I'd try something different about with this post.

I know some people aren't enjoying Superior, but I'm I'm on board at the moment. So, for those of you enjoying the series or at least reading it, what works, doesn't work about the book for you?

I'm not angling for a "Peter is the only REAL Spidey" thread. Feel free to speak your peace, but straight-up bashing is probably best reserved for other threads. Based solely on the merit of Superior Spider-man (or lack thereof), what's your take on the series given where we're at now?

Do you like it? Hate it? Dig the new costume? Oh, and Dr. Spiderpus is dating a midget.

All opinions welcome.

Didn't Marvel try to go back on the whole Xorneto thing in the short-lived Excalibur series that started off with Magneto and Xavier?

@frogdog: Haha! Best comparison, even if I don't agree with it. You guys do realize that the "superior" is just how Otto sees it, right? One of my favorite parts of the story is Otto teetering on the brink of utter megalomania and if his ego or his sense of duty as Spider-man wins out. Anyway, love Dr. Spiderpus, but can't wait for Parker to return at the same time.

@spider11211: True, sales are going down, but they're not plummeting. Not to mention the fact that ALL the Marvel Now books had huge initial sales that are steadily dwindling.

@8008s: I think...I think I love you.

I'm a huge fan of Superior Spider-man. I love me some Amazing, but I've seen that. I've been there and back and watching writers play hit or miss with Peter Parker has been a love-hate relationship for me over the past twenty years. AND this is from a guy who really got into the book during all that Traveler nonsense back in the diggity.

I don't think either is better or worse. They're not even remotely the same unless you're purely looking at the surface. Granted, Dr. Spiderpus isn't for everybody, and that's fine. Do what I did around the time Stracyznki's run started going off the rails and don't buy the book.

But I can't be the only person in the world enjoying Otto straddling that line between hero and villain and not always coming up good. Plus, if Dr. Spiderpus does eventually boost Spider-man's threat level from ambivalently received vigilante to actualmenace, I can't wait to see how Peter has to redeem Spider-man in the public's eyes.

Slott isn;t a bad writer, problem is that comic readers hate change.....and want change at the same time. We are all hypocrites

Nailed it. Sorta. I'm actually a huge proponent of Dr. Spiderpus.

But I would love to see Yost, Fialkov, or Simon Spurrier tackle the book.

@veshark: You've definitely got some good points. However, I don't think the French thing needs any defending. Let's remember, one of the few wars they definitively won was against themselves.

Hey, some creative teams just aren't for everybody. I put Deadpool down for the first time when Christopher Priest's run ended. Time heals all wounds. Also, healing factors. But I can sympathize. Not a huge fan of Deadpool at the moment.

Which of these methods of dispatch has been throughly debunked? A good half of the examples I used are from the last several months. Some, even more recent.

As for out of context, I can see what you mean. But my intent wasn't to disparage the character. We all know that pugnacious pipsqueak can hold his own against severely formidable odds. I was just trying to point out that even with a healing factor, Wolverine is NOT totally impervious. Taking away the healing factor doesn't sound like an interesting story specifically because he already tackles threats that could potentially end him. So yes, the examples were taken out of context, but they still demonstrate his healing factor's blindspots.

Of course, this recent development opens the door for a new perspective on Wolverine, but it's one that doesn't grab me personally simply because I've never felt the character was unkillable. Plus, the Vegas odds on one of Marvel's cash cows kicking the bucket aren't great, making the gravitas feel especially artificial to me.

I love that Marvel is making radical changes with flagship characters across the board (Spider-man, Hulk, Iron Man, etc.). I'm even more jazzed that many of these developments retool the way we view them. While Logan sans healing factor is sure to have its ups and downs, this plot device simply doesn't cater to my personal tastes.
