This is gonna be a pretty short one, however I think it will get longer as the current season progresses. So might as well create it now.
Grey Worm (Or Torgo Nudho, in High Valyrian), is a native of the Summer Isles. He was sold into slavery as a small child, and began training as an Unsullied at the age of five. Other than that, there is nothing known regarding his origin before being sold into slavery.
Unsullied are commonly known as the greatest fighting force that one can find in Essos and possibly in the entire world. They begin their training at the age of 5, and keep training for over a decade, mastering the shortsword, the shield and three lengths of spear until they are recognized as full-fledged Unsullied. In their training, the Unsullied get castrated - among many other harsh and inhumanly cruel things. They are being shaped into literal weapons, knowing only obedience and the arts of war and fearing nothing.
After being bought/taken/liberated/whatever by Daenerys Targaryen, Grey Worm was chosen by his fellow Unsullied to be their commander. He chose to keep his Unsullied name instead of choosing a new one, or taking back the name he was born with. He said that his name was Grey Worm when he was liberated by Daenerys Targaryen, and therefore it is a lucky name.
Over time, Grey Worm developed from being just one soldier among many into a leader and commander whose counsel held great weight in Daenerys's court. He also fell in love with Daenerys's closest confidante - Missandei of Naath (which is mutual).
In the series, Grey Worm is portrayed by the actor
Barack Obama Jacob Anderson.
Grey Worm's martial skill is very good, and he is also very fast. As I mentioned before, every Unsullied is trained for over a decade, day in and day out, to master the shortsword, the shield and three lengths of spear.
The Unsullied officers choose Grey Worm to be their commander:
Grey Worm, Jorah Mormont and Daario Naharis sneak into Yunkai in order to open the main gates so Daenerys's army can charge in and conquer the city. On their way, they are confronted by a large group of soldiers. The three warriors dispatch them with ease despite being heavily outnumbered, and Grey Worm himself does very well (though the camera doesn't focus on him as much as it does on Jorah and Daario):
Grey Worm leads a squad of Unsullied on patrol in Meereen. They are fooled into entering a narrow corridor, where they are ambushed by at least two dozen Sons of the Harpy. The skirmish is pretty fierce, and Grey Worm butchers them left and right:
Grey Worm remains the last man standing, surrounded by Sons of the Harpy. Even though he's injured, he's still so fast that they hesitate to engage him and he manages to kill a few of them before they even make a move at him:
Daario thinks highly of Grey Worm (in his own way):
The Unsullied are experts of fighting in formation:
After breaching Casterly Rock, Grey Worm leads the assault of the Unsullied against the Lannister garrison. Here he fights his way up to the second floor of the battlements:
He then butchers a few more Lannister soldiers that come at him from several different directions:
Grey Worm has great strength and stamina, as well as amazing endurance. All Unsullied are trained to withstand intense pain and physical strain. I will take some general Unsullied feats in here and attribute them to Grey Worm individually, as all Unsullied have some physical attributes that apply to all of them, such as the ability to ignore pain.
When Daenerys arrived in Astapor, the slave-master Kraznys mo Nakloz had the Unsullied wait for her, unmoving, for 24 hours without any food or water:
As a rather cruel way of showing Daenerys that the Unsullied feel no pain, Kraznys mo Nakloz approaches one of them and cuts off his nipple with a knife:
When Daenerys and her army prepare to leave Yunkai and head for Meereen, Daenerys notices that Grey Worm and Daario Naharis are absent from her entourage. She finds them at the back of the army, sitting on the ground facing each other, each holding his sword with his arms stretched forward. They were gambling to see who breaks first, with the victor having the honor of riding at Daenerys's side on the road to Meereen. Missandei tells Daenerys that they were at it since midnight, and judging by how the sky looks, they were holding their swords like that for at least 7 hours straight if not more. And they both looked perfectly OK too. This feat might not look like much in the beginning but it's actually very impressive:
Throws a spear at a Lannister soldier so hard that it goes right through him and continues flying without losing speed, nailing him to a wooden door:
All in all, Grey Worm's personality was kind of forged and set during his Unsullied training. He is a fearless warrior, extremely professional and never disobeys an order. However, being liberated by Daenerys and having become a commander shaped his personality a bit more. He has more responsibility than he had as one soldier among many, and he has fallen in love with Missandei - something that would probably not have happened if he was still a slave.
Grey Worm's opinion is highly valued by Daenerys:
His loyalty to Daenerys is unwavering. However, he is not loyal to her because she is his "master", but because he holds her in the highest regard possible:
He fears nothing:
Other than losing Missandei:
Epic quotes by Grey Worm:
"Grey Worm gives me pride. It is a lucky name. The name this one was born with was cursed. That was the name he had when he was taken as a slave. But Grey Worm is the name this one had the day Daenerys Stormborn set him free."
Grey Worm: "Wounded, in war... there is no shame for this. I am ashamed because when the knife go in, and I fall to the ground... I am afraid."
Missandei: "All men fear death."
Grey Worm: "No. Not death. I fear I never again see Missandei from the Island of Naath."
To Tyrion and Missandei:
Grey Worm: "That is the worst joke I ever heard."
Missandei: "You don't even know what a joke is."
Grey Worm: "I am soldier all my life, you think I never hear joke?"
Tyrion: "You lied to us!"
Grey Worm: "...I make joke."
"You don't know them. You don't understand them. We are not human in their eyes. They look at me and see a weapon. They look at her [Missandei], and see a whore."
To the slave soldiers of Yunkai and Astapor (spoken in High Valyrian):
"You men have a choice: fight and die for masters who would never fight and die for you, or go home to your families."
Grey Worm is not the most interesting character, so to speak, but he is definitely fun to watch. Many of his moments with Missandei and Tyrion, as well as with Daario Naharis can be simply hilarious, and his fights scenes are epic. I am pretty sure we haven't seen the last of him and I'm certain this thread will gain more material as the season progresses.
Hope you enjoyed the read!
