Comic Vine’s Wild Card of the Month: Series You are Most Thankful for Reading in 2013!

Normally my policy is that I only include results which have 3pts or more. However, this time, I would like to honor all the series we liked in 2013 rather than just the few who people picked as their top series of the year (we got that sort of stuff in the Awards anyway). Techically based on the votes, Batman won with 4pts, but So instead the following are all the titles which people voted in our poll:

  • Animal Man
  • Aquaman
  • Batman
  • Batman Beyond Unlimited
  • Batwoman
  • Catwoman
  • Daredevil: End of Days
  • Green Arrow
  • Green Lantern
  • Mara
  • Miss Fury
  • Quantum & Woody
  • Saga
  • Superior Spider-Man
  • Superman Unchained
  • Superman Wonder Woman
  • Swamp Thing
  • The Walking Dead
  • Thor God of Thunder

What was a series you liked in 2013 which you think should be added to this list which you are thankful for reading?

If you don't see a series here please don't complain. Instead just tell me what you are thankful for reading. I love to see all opinions (even if my own opinions differ) and I wish this list to be as complete as possible so I will continue to add to it as people mention titles so that we can look back at this list.

Comic Vine's Best Comic of The Month!

No Caption Provided
  1. Origin II #1 with 17 points and one 1st place win
  2. Uncanny Avengers #15 with 16 points
  3. Amazing X-Men #2 with 15 points and one 1st place win
  4. Action Comics #26 with 14 points and one 1st place win / Inhumanity #1 with 14 points and one 1st place win / Trillium #5 with 14 points and _ 1st place win
  5. Green Arrow #26 with 13 points / Doctor Who Special 2013 #1 with 13 points and two 1st place wins

Two titles I'd like to mention that I just caught up on, The Private Eye. (Bonus: pay what you want pricing model) Also, Injustice: Gods Among Us. I liked the game well enough, but this book exceeds it by leaps and bounds. I Will probably catch up on Earth 2 based on Taylor's strong performance on Injustice.

As always, awesome job! :D My vote for next months Wild Card, in my humble opinion, would be Best All-New Marvel Now Title or Best WTF Moment.

Moment is a possiblity I supose. It would have to be title/issue based since I need/want a result/ranking rather than a list. So maybe like "Most Suprising Moment in an Issue"?

Best All-New Marvel Now Title would be fasinating. Could we spin it as "Favorite New Series" or something like that? That way we could get the same result and possibly more people would vote (don't like to get publisher specific because some users skip some publishers).

Favorite New Series would be good because of the influx of new Image books at the moment

yeah same here (being busy that is). That's the reason why this poll was delayed. Kept putting off compiling because I had work to do.

@jonny_anonymous: yeah, I can think of so many new series I could nominate. Now, the question for that wild card possiblity is: how should we define as "new"? like should it only be series which are on their #1 issue this month? or what is the cut off?

Another option (just so people have options) is: Series You are Most Looking forward to Reading in 2014 (a reverse of what we did this month, though if it is like this month I am not as crazy about that idea given the low numbers)

Wow all 3 superman comics are getting some recognition this month ( even lobdels O.o )

But I'm even more glad that people also noticed how good JLD is.

Some really good and interesting results. Glad to see Origin II #1 up there as the best comic of the month, loved it and can't wait for issue 2 this upcoming week. It's is also nice to see Trillium up there, it always good when there's some recognition for a title that isn't from the big two.

Mega suprised Superman #26 by Lobdell is up there, I'll probably get it this week to see why it has got such a good feedback amongst the Comic Vine community.

By the way @the_poet, has Superman Unchained been voted for at least one category in every month that it has been released? I'm curious.

@enigmalantern: It has been voted numerous times. and it has won a few catagories in the past too. I know off the top of my head the #1 issue won Best Interior Art back in June. I don't know other catagories since I don't have collecting lists for any catagories other than the first two.

@enigmalantern: yeah, I have enjoyed that series. I mean it's been slow going with the delays but it has been nice. I admittedly lost interest in Action Comics early on (haven't read since early in Morrison's run so I haven't read the latest stuff), but I think Unchained has potential. I'm not sure where it is going as a series but I think it has potential (plus the art isn't bad either).

@the_poet: The plot is intriguing and the art, in my opinion, is very good. The series definitely has potential, I'm looking forward to what the conclusion of the whole Ascension and Wraith situation will be. After issue 9 (when the current story arc concludes) I'll be interested to see what happens with the series, in terms of the creative team.

@scouts1998: the best of the month always begins at the last Wednesday of the month, so two days from now.
