Batman Survives. Forever. 2

The Good: I could go on and on about how great this is. I could gush on and on for hours about the glorious artwork of Tony Daniel or the breathtaking story work of Grant Morrison, so I will!Tony Daniel's art is just so completely awesome. Not only does it suit Grant Morrison's story like a glove, it suits Batman like his cape and cowl. It's just amazing. The story isn't so much a story, but a firsthand account of Batman's journey through Final Crisis. It really gets deep down into the core of h...

And I thought the Cover Was Just There To Look Awesome 0

The Good: Diogenes Neves' Art is glorious as usual. Galahad is an interesting character. His origin story is laughably bizarre, which makes it enjoyable. Still have no idea what his REAL deal is.  Galahad's fight scene was awesome too.Another good look at the street level life in Star City. Gritty and real without choking you with it. Speaking of the cover, it's excellent. Awesome. etc. Green Arrow's look into his past is both interesting and well presented. The transition as he flies through hi...

David Hine is Officially Beyond Awesome 0

The Good: The Art. Oh the art. It's extremely reminiscent of the 90's. When comic books didn't need to look dark to be dark. When everything could still be fun when it was tragic. Emperor Joker, Joker's Last Laugh, a bunch of other stuff I haven't read. This art is so much fun to read. The atmosphere of the story is fantastic. It fuses elements of Batman Beyond and The Dark Knight Returns, and it's just fantastic. The cover is REALLY dark and pretty awesome. Batman trying out Joker Juice in the ...

No Shortage of Action for Luthor. 0

The Good: Deathstroke vs. Luthor. I could stop my review there because seriously, that alone should be enough to get you up to go get this comic. DEATHSTROKE VS. LUTHOR. Luthor's exploring the idea of Blackest Night from a completely different angle than anything we've seen before. It's quite fascinating. Before, all the Green Lantern stuff was sort of a magic faux-science, science fiction. Luthor approaches the situation from a much more analytical 'hard science' perspective. It's really cool t...

The Sirens Song is Drawing Me Back 0

The Good: Lots of awesome action. The art is just beautiful. Everything looks awesome, and the girls' curves are really captured. An interesting look at Ivy getting the tables turned on her. Some really powerful emotional stuff between Harley and Ivy.  The Bad: I said it in #14, the whole alien plant man is a bit wild and out there. I mean, on one hand, it is a pretty awesome idea, but the intro to it last issue felt completely out of the blue, and it's too short to make any insane impacts. The ...

More Than One Major Plot Point is Over 0

The Good: The overall presentation was very nice. The teams all worked together well, the arc wrapped up nicely, and the art was fine too. I haven't mentioned this before, but James Robinson seems to have one of the best grasps of Dick-Batman. A bunch of the other titles have been making him too close to Bruce and it bothers me. Paul Dini's always had an excellent grip on it and obviously Grant Morrison, but some of the others didn't do as well. JLA has some spot on Dick-Bat characterization. I'...

Batman Beyond Continues to be Excellent 0

The Good: It's Batman Beyond, that alone is a good. We get to see our first battle between Hush and Terry. THE WALL is keeping secrets. THE WALL is just as intimidating as ever. Excellent Kingdom Come reference. It ties itself right into Return of The Joker without strangling itself with it. It also further distinguishes itself from it quite nicely. SPOILER ALERT: Our first ever sighting of Future Dick Grayson. : ALERT OVER.Still overall great writing.  The Bad: It's not just Terry, all the McGi...

Azrael: Making Religious Fanaticism Awesome 2

The Good: Where to start? I've always been on and off about Guillem March's art, but he's made this arc look amazing! The first 9 issues of Azrael had a nice real quality to them which I was nervous about losing, but his art makes everything look so cool in this and the last issue. It really represents the rampant complete insanity running rampant here. The Crusader is a monstrously twisted psycho. He's one of the greatest new villains I've seen in a long time. With his self inflicted cross burn...

Two-Faces Co-Feature Takes Control of This Issue 1

The Good: Mind Blowingly awesome cover. An excellent look into the mind of one of the most iconic Batman villains. THE BLOODY COIN.Two-Face's rage is frightening. I would not want to screw with that guy. Two-Face looks hilariously out of place wearing a hoodie. A Co-Feature that is excellent and respected.  Two-Face in an unfamiliar situation. Excellent use of suspense and pacing. The Bad: No Main Feature. No Paul Dini. No Dustiny Nguyen. (Except for the cover.)No Hush. No House of Hush.   In Con...

Priorities are Flipped as More Questions Are Answered Than Asked 0

The Good: An actually accurate cover compared to some of the first few in this series. Queen Shrike is BADASS with those metal wings of hers. Because they only focus on three (really two) of the five stories, we get a lot more development in each of them. SPOILER ALERT: There's another Green Martian!!!! :END ALERT Some crazy plot stuff about Hawkworld and Thanagar, which is probably more awesome if you know anything about Hawkman and Hakwgirl; but I don't and it was still awesome. Did I mention ...

The Dark Things Shine Bright 0

The Good: Jadesidian? Obsisade? Whatever, first the pages, THEY FUSE TOGETHER. It looks badass, and is. Some interesting look into Jade and Kyle's past relationship. Some very nice dialogue all around. Starman's not gonna die. Starheart really plays up that, "Ultimate Power With the Mind of a Child" personality they alluded to in JLA # 47. Artwork makes a lot of things look really awesome.  I quite liked Faust's reveal about Starheart's illusion. The Bad: This arc seems a bit too long to me. A l...

Revolt of the Alpha Lanterns Getting A Little Stale at the Edges 0

The Good: Revelation about why Cyborg Superman needs Ganthet. I liked it, it was something I totally hadn't thought about, and the timing for the reveal was nice. Art was pretty nice, I still miss Patrick Gleason though. All the main characters were used in a nice balance and well characterized. Ganthet feels EMOTIONS.  The Bad: For the second time this week a cover told too much. I just this week picked up The RIse of Arsenal and the cover of #2 told us what happened on THE LAST PAGE OF THE ISS...

Crime is Awesome And So Is Nemesis 0

The Good: Right from the start, the cover just screams awesome. "Crime Is Awesome And So Am I"Nemesis. He's an awesome character. He may be fairly flat but hey, he's badass, and sometimes that's enough. Not everything needs to make you re-think the way you see the world, sometimes badass is just badass. And Nemesis is badass in spades. Nemesis again. He's always 3 steps ahead of everyone. It's a totally awesome joyride through the streets of gore and ass-kicking. The art makes everything look ab...

Things May Be Looking Up For Titans 1

This issue was a SIGNIFICANT improvement from the previous 2. Which is a complete shame. The Villains for Hire Special was just so flipping awesome. And the prospect of an ongoing about Deathstroke and a team of Anti-VIllains rocked harder than a Dragonforce song. And their first target was Lex Luthor! Then it was a massive letdown. This issue is A LOT better than the last 2, but its still not superb.  The Good: DEATHSTROKE. The logo is a nice shade of blue, which is a nice departure from the la...

Birds of Prey Flying High 3

The Good: Spectacular fight scenes all around. Stellar as usual artwork. Excellent intro sets the mood nicely. While the 'arc' is technically over in a way, the story continues.Even though it's "Endrun: Part 4 of 4" the arc doesn't conclude, which I liked because there's still more that couldn't have been wrapped up in one issue. There was this one panel where Penguin looks seriously menacing. Completely badass. Which is awesome, I've loved any time Penguin gets respect ever since his Joker's As...

Generation Lost Hasn't 'Lost' It's Mojo. (Excuse the bad pun) 0

Let me start by putting my pre-conceptions out there, I love this title, I have from the start. Maxwell Lord is a completely brilliant villain, in both character and writing. Booster Gold is a delight to watch, Rocket Red is even bigger comic relief, and evrything is great. I'm also previously a huge fan of Judd Winick for Under the Hood and of Keith Griffin for I Luv Halloween and a lot of other things (Though the latter is oddly absent from this issue). Point is, I'm predisposed to already lov...

Batgirl: Year 2 Begins Well 5

Synopsis: Batgirl chases Clayface, chats up Proxy, and Detective Gage gets some character development.  The Good: From the start I've enjoyed Stephanie's Batgirl title. She consistently delivers a simple fun superhero title that doesn't have to ride the waves of crises or change the way we think to be a great read, and this issue was no exception. Nice neat One-Shot story, normally I'm a bigger fan of arcs but after Flood, this was a good start to her second year. Some very nice glances at Detec...

Do We Really Need a Third Green Lantern Title? 0

If you're going to skip right down and argue with me after seeing my question, stop, because the answer is yes, yes we do. I mean, I'm not going to go all fanboy and say we need 10 Green Lantern titles, I just think that a lot of heroes need multiple titles. That way if you don't like an arc you're not stuck having to wait to read your favorite hero, and its always nice to see different creators takes on the same character or different sides of that character. (Yes, I;m referring mostly to my su...

Robin Hood: Men in Ti-I Mean Green Arrow 0

I don't like Green Arrow. I've never liked Green Arrow. After I accepted he's not just a lame Batman knockoff of sorts (when I was just starting into comics) he was still boring and downright annoying to me. I could accept him in a group of heroes but couldn't bear to foray into his solo titles. Because I'm incredibly OCD, I had to check this one out because I'm currently purchasing all Brightest Day Tie-Ins. I'm very glad for that because I LOVED THIS ISSUE.  The Good: Wow, where to begin? The ...

Red Robin: More Powerful Than a Regular Robin 0

Synopsis: Red Robin puts an awesome convoluted plan into action as a piece of a different much larger complex convoluted plan.  The Good: Pretty much everything. The art is awesome. It suits the style so well, and everything looks excellent. Red Robin really distinguishes himself from the rest of the Bat-Family. He does things his own way on his own, but isn't afraid to call a friend for help. Red Robin always has excellent pacing, it doesn't feel rushed or too slow. Things move along slowly but...

Some Not-That-Much Needed Light is Shined on Brightest Day 0

Synopsis: Questions are answered.  The Good: We know what everyone's re-life missions are. Deadman haz cheezburger. A couple characters look awesome in their temporary White Lantern uniform. Deadman may be the 'King Arthur' of the White Lantern but they don't overplay it. There's not a dramatic scene of him lifting up the lantern like the cover, but the actual lifting of it is so casual and offhanded, it avoids being cliche and keeps the flow of the story going really well. I was quite glad to s...

Doom Patrol Gets Weird. What Else is New? 0

Synopsis: Rita undergoes an emotional crisis.  The Good: Some very excellent character development. Some superb as always dialogue. Negative man is an excellent character. An emotional bomb has been waiting to go off. It did. Panel layout has significantly improved since the beginning of the series.  The Bad: The previous massive built up story seemed to completely fizzle out. Some characters seemed to be missing completely. The black hole dude, Ambush Bug, Crazy Jane, Danny the Street/Brick/Hou...

Batman's Odyssey Steps Up Quick After a Weak Start 0

Synopsis: Batman continues his train flashback and fights a group of completely moronic robbers. Also he gets shot many many times.  The Good: The whole feel of the comic was a significant improvement over the first. Things were much easier to grasp rather than feeling like Neal Adams just dumped a bunch of plot elements into a blender and fired them at a wall. The art is still pretty sweet, it really gives off the 'badass' feel that Batman is all about.  The flashback story was a whole lot bett...

Outsiders teaches comics what a Superhero Team title should be. 1

My introduction into Outsiders was as convoluted as a Grant Morrison comic. I started out reading The Hunt and was only mildly impressed, and worried a bit when one of my favorite artists, Philip Tan, was taking over, feeling his talent may be wasted on the team (I don't hate them but I thought they weren't the best match compared to his stints on Batman and Robin and Green Lantern.) The first few issues of DD and PT's run were messy and inconsistent, with Don Kramer doing half the art sprinkled...
