Biography
Sophia's Beginning (OoC)
Sophia was a peculiar and precocious girl who grew up in the foster system. Nothing was known by the officials when she turned up with an "M" brand over her right eye. Even her own memories were mired with hallucinations from what was considered juvenile schizophrenia. She never completed high school, but is well-read with a genius level IQ. Though her hallucinations stopped, she is still considered somewhat eccentric and detached. Sometimes under great stress, she will slip back into madness. Her vast mental powers in particular are very taxing on her psyche, and by their very nature can drive her to psychosis.
Sophia takes to over-stimulating her senses by focusing completely on one or more controlled variables. She has to do this periodically to maintain her sanity. Very often she can achieve a psionic numbing by chewing gum and listening to music with her eyes closed.
Relevations: Birth of the Brainchild
After a time at Black Eden, Quintus Knightfall's island estate living as a house mouse, it was revealed through a dream that Sophia was the daughter of Dr. Alexandra Steele and the aforementioned Knightfall. Fearing the complications this lineage could cause, Sophia keeps this information a secret except from a select few.
Dismantling the Machine
Sophia's father was invited by Zedora Liafador of the Third Society (under the guise of Ziccarra, Quintus' ex-wife) to partake in a tournament called the Goblet of Fire (OoC) pitting humans against mutants. The pair of Knightfalls suspected a trap, and Sophia invisibly was allowed to follow Quintus to the arena. The Brainchild was discovered by the quantum mind of Aphasic, and the two discussed the nature of hominid existence. Sophia realized that these quantum machines were the ones responsible for her mother's capture and the fracturing of her mind.
An alliance of Santiago Porthos, Catriona Knightfall (as Cat Savage), Dr. Alexandra Steele, Dr. Jean Quentin, and Sophia Steele-Knightfall joined together to enact and elaborate scheme to draw Aphasic from his quantum realm of space-time to their Earth. Each fulfilled their own role in destroying the entity thus severing the head from the Third Society's ranks. But the threat of Zedora, the Matriarch, remained.
The LeBeau Legacy
During her stay at Black Eden, Sophia intercepted an invitation for Quintus by Valerie Huntington-Whiteley to attend the Hellfire Club's annual gala. With the aid of her friend and designated bodyguard Zain, the pair of teens crashed the party. It was here they first met Lucian LeBeau (unaware of his familial connection to the anti-mutant crusader Charlemagne LeBeau). Lucian hoped to seduce Sophia in order to get close to her father, but the attempt ultimately failed, and the vengeful son sought another way to enact his revenge against the Knightfall clan.
After Quintus was depowered and kidnapped by current President of the United States Clarice Pierce, the Black Eden Estate was left in near ruins and indefensible. The mansion was assaulted by Lucian and two of his superhuman comrades (Rama Red and Cypher Enigma) as he endeavoured to turn Sophia's human uncle Cassius Knightfall to his side or kill him as a traitor to humankind. At her uncle's request, Sophia joined the defense driving Lucian from the island to regroup.
Lucian began amassing forces to his anti-mutant cause at the location of Shadowland. He managed to subdue and kidnap Sophia while she was in a state of recuperating meditation. He took her back to his compound where she remains his prisoner, her mental powers kept in check with a cocktail of psychoactive drugs. After an assault upon Shadowland, Lucian relocated his forces, including the newly joined Cassius, to the marine base of Odyssey Dawn. He took Sophia to the original Arashikage Island to unleash her true nature.

The Further Trials of the Brainchild
Falling into a life of drugs to counter her maddening perception of reality, Sophia wandered Gothic as a virtual nobody once again. That is until she was attacked by Inner Demon's Retriever at the time, Sergei. Returning to her mother shaken, drugged, and brutalized, the trio of Xandra, Scorn, and Jean took the fight to Sergei in Avalon. He was easily slaughtered by the infuriated mother after their confrontation.
She was later incapacitated by Garrison Grail and taken to become a pawn of the MVPs. To keep her in check, an explosive device was placed on her brainstem to terminate her if she refused to comply. It was here she learned from Drake how to teleport by invoking the principles of quantum entanglement. She also helped Kurt Pendragon discover the source of his powers, himself being a connection with another dimension of pure energy which sustained him. With help from her uncle Cassius, she was able to free herself from the device and escape.
Sophia met up with Kurt to help him better understand and control his powers, the two exploring the energy dimension controlled by the two's imaginations. She later went on to use this information to construct her own universe apart from what is known as the CVnU. But quickly became bored with playing a god and is back to existing within her original universe.
Spectrum of Power
"Psychokinesis" is an umbrella term for any ability that involves using the mind to manipulate something, and some other, more specific, abilities may be acquired as a result. However, such users are usually specialized in only one of these areas, and rarely manifest their powers beyond their specialty. These psionic abilities can include but are not limited to:
- Biological Manipulation
- Cosmic Manipulation
- Energy Manipulation
- Intangibility
- Light Manipulation
- Matter Manipulation
- Psionic Strength
- Telekinetic Constructs
- Thermal Manipulation
- Vector Manipulation
Spatial Sense/Intuitive Aptitude
Sophia's psychokinesis isn't not always used as an active ability (i.e. lifting things with her mind). Whenever she is awake, her mind is continually emitting psionic energy in a non-obtrusive form that almost works like an X-ray or sonar. She says it's her ability to "see through people." Though she is not actually able to see through dense matter, she is able to project her thoughts through or into an item or person to sense its fundamental nature by it's construction. This is easiest to do with psionic mutants whose brains function on a certain wavelength easily distinguishable from other minds. Like her mother, though she cannot directly read minds, she can sense their presence. This allows her to perceive more and at greater extremes than her limited, physical senses allow.
Dr. Steele's Analysis of Sophia's Relationships
Sophia has an unusual mind. The universe in her perspective is made of a few substances such as matter, energy, and conceptualizations. Humans, and by extension mutants and other sentient beings, are balances of these things. As such, there is very little difference in her mind between you and an ant. The most important part to her would be your greater usefulness particular for entertainment whether physical, emotional, or intellectual. Sophia understands that attachments are temporary and ultimately arbitrary. She can read the chemicals that trigger to make you feel attracted to her. To 'get close' would be as irrational as a human being falling in love with a mechanical clock. She can observe and manipulate it to do what she wants. She might be considered cold because she fears the irrationality of relationships, the weakness and emotionality they inspire. Emotions are not so readily understood or embraced by our sort.
