A Little Help From My Friends 0

Highly Recommended!Ripped from the pages of issue four, the same terrifying chill runs down my spine as I open this, the final issue of the Carnage U.S.A. mini-series. Set up just like a scene from the SAW films - this chill stems from the simple thought left behind from the cliffhanger - trapped, without legs, and apparently entirely disadvantaged against a psychotic killer - yikes! I really felt bad for Flash.Silly me, I should have known better - he doesn't need legs, heck, or his symbiote to...

Teamwork! 0

Highly Recommended! The end is almost nigh! Well the end of this arc anyway. It is certainly not the end of our courageous adventurers - Not by a long shot. In this action packed, exciting and cosmic issue of Adventure Time we see Finn, Jake, Marceline, Princess Bubblegum, Lumpy Space Princess, Ice King, and Desert Princess take the battle TO the Lich. How you ask? With adventurey goodness. If you thought the cliffhanger from last issue would conclude with, "And that's how the Lich won and the ear...

Sinners All! 0

Highly Recommended! The wait is over. Last issue's cliffhanger's resolution has arrived. But not on immediate glance of page one. In true "I am going to teach you patience" style, we are forced to wait. A good amount of back story is provided as La Sangre and The Inquisitor share pleasantries during their battle royale. The true fate and intentions of The Inquisitor are revealed and all the questions La Sangre has been asking about him since '44, are answered. A lot of great information, action, ...

Still Burning 0

Recommended! This issue was better than the prologue. Still not perfect, but getting there. My hope for this 12 issue event is rising. At this point, I have decided to declare my allegiance with the Avengers. I know it may seem like I am jumping on the "hate Cyclops" bandwagon, but I just feel a greater affinity for the Avengers - and it is not because I am a big Steve Rogers fan. In fact, I am not a big fan of either side's leader. It is the more "family" and "team oriented" feel to the Avengers...

Losing Hope 0

Recommended! (for collection and story foundation purposes)The pages of this Prelude have been plastered across the back pages of countless Marvel titles for weeks now. We finally get to see the Avengers side of the story and the rest of the X-Men's side. Overall the hero on villain action was satisfactory. It was the hero to hero relationships that seemed to be lacking. Everywhere you look in this comic, there are tormented relationships. It is unfortunate that the "soap opera" feel of this iss...

"Ugh, Not Again." 0

Recommended! In this installment of the Avengers Prelude mini-series we get a look at what happened "between the frames" of some of the biggest Hollywood Marvel movies. I still find it interesting that this comic, set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is finding new ways to portray the stories that we saw on the big screen years ago. It certainly makes me want to watch those movies again and see if any of what they are illustrating in this mini actually happened during the course of the movies ref...

As Quick As Mice 0

Recommended! While the first pages didn't exactly pick up where the last issue left off, they did offer some nice side story filler before the cover announced, "The X-Terminated vs. Cyclops" main event. This side story included a bit more about "Humanity's Last Stand" as well as a status update on the de-powered Jean Grey and Victor Creed. It was good to see both Jean and Victor struggling with the loss of their powers. I am glad that the creative team is taking time to highlight this critical pa...

"Thankewvermuch" 0

Highly Recommended! In this, the finale of the Major League Chew arc, it is all about Amelia and her quest to find Tony. Someone that has not only been missing from her life, but from the majority of the pages within this arc of Chew. Obviously he makes an appearance in this issue, a very unforgettable appearance, in fact. But again, this issue is not about Tony, it is about Amelia, her character, her resolve and her skills - doing it all for the man she loves. It is a fantastic and gruesome love...

Solitary No More 0

Highly Recommended!Though this was mostly a filler issue, it did contribute quite a bit to the ongoing story and tied up a lot of loose ends that had been left dangling from a few issues back. The theme of this issue is "picking up the pieces". Once again the FF attempt to get things back in order after a long and exhausting fight to save earth. And as the relationship between future Franklin and Galactus grows, the personality cracks between future Val and present Val begin to widen. I am surpr...

Tearing Paths 0

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!Intro/Initial Thoughts:As soon as I finished reading this book, I was immediately compelled to tweet, “@mercuryeric Impressive - Poignant - Mesmerizing. Easily the best 2 hours I have spent in a long time. Bravo.”In the simplest terms, this book blew me away, you see.I was lucky enough to meet one of the writers of this book last week in his LCS in Lacey, WA. A warehouse of a building, this shop is one of the largest I have seen in my cross-country LCS search. These details ...

The Quick and the Doomed 0

Highly Recommended! Not only is this a great jumping on point for new readers, it is a fantastic continuation to the greater Jonah Hex story being told. I still certainly recommend picking up issues 1-6, or at least the trade that will sure to be coming, but if you haven't started reading the New 52's All-Star Western, today is the time to start. The Quick - The Gotham dust still lingers on Jonah's boots as he rides into New Orleans with his trusty side-kick Amadeus Arkham - both still on the trai...

Management Skills 0

Recommended! The behind the scenes look at the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues in this week's installment of the Avengers Prelude mini-series. It is all those parts of the movies you knew had to exist, but just assumed happened off-camera. And while this mini is all about "Fury's Big Week", this issue is all about his management skills - focusing on a few of his 'favored' agents: Phil Coulson, Natasha Romanoff and Clint Barton. In this one issue alone, we see Agent Coulson deal with mysterious...

Hope Rising 0

Recommended! There were only a few ways this mini-series could end, and I have to say that I am satisfied with the results. This issue is wrought with spoilerific content, so I will do my best not to mention any of it here. In fact, it took me a while to decide which image I should pick for the review, as many of the panels would give away key plot points in the story. You will definitely want to pick up this issue (and likely the previous three) so that you can experience the pretty significant p...

And If Tomorrow... 0

Highly Recommended! The story of forever comes to a conclusion. This five part arc has been some of the best Fantastic Four I have ever read. It coupled with the FF stories have really made me re-think everything I know about this family and their fantastic friends. As expected, the end comes with an overall positive message of hope. And while there was much sacrifice throughout the story, most everything is returned to normal - that is normal with a strong side of overwhelming galactic power shi...

Disassembled Expectations 0

I had very high expectations for this book. In fact, I was all ready to buy the variant covers to "show my support", but after reading the internal content, I decided to save my money for something a bit more deserving. The redeeming quality of this book is its art. I really enjoyed each of the variant covers and the interiors, but the story just left so much to be desired. The "Marvel Avengers Prelude" mini-series has more to offer than this story, and that is primarily about Nick Fury dealing ...

I'm Pretty Sure I'll Be Just Fine 0

Recommended! It all comes down to this, the final battle between Hulk and Banner. It has been teased for as long as the series has been running. It has been stretched out over three issues. Only one more issue until we find out the actual results, as once again, we are left with a pretty decent cliffhanger, only to be confused by the next issue's preview. Either way, this issue does not disappoint - if you like the Hulk and you like to watch him overcome all sorts of odds, this is the issue for y...

Unmasked! 0

Recommended!Web-slinger extraordinaire, Kaine is still learning about his new city of Houston, TX... besides the fact that it is hot, humid and wrought with crime - it is spread out over vast areas, not all of which have towering anchors for his transportation needs. The depiction of this and the simple fact that it was brought up at all, made me feel that the creative team really did their homework. It was a really easy and effective way to add humor to a story full of drama and action. This boo...

I Can Breathe! 0

Recommended!Doverton, Colorado is almost completely "infected" by Carnage - Cletus Kasady has taken over and absorbed almost everyone in his way - including Cap, The Thing, Wolverine and Hawkeye! The government has sent in a crack team of symbiote enhanced soldiers, each with their own specialty - will it be enough to destroy Cletus and save the citizens of Doverton? Well, if it isn't, then the welfare of everyone within a 25 mile radius is in jeopardy, as the entire area will be erased off the ...

Team Vampire Queen 0

Highly Recommended! The terrorizing tale of The Lich continues! Much of Ooo and many of your beloved characters are "in the bag" - some adjust quite nicely, others not so much. Finn and Jake are restless, as expected - still trying to find a way out of the bag and a clever way to save the day. They try in all directions, until they find one that looks very promising... but with their next move be their last? We are left with a cliffhanger of unexpected danger horror and adventure! Oh, and there w...

Towards The Light 0

Recommended! This issue really shocked me. In fact, I am not entirely sure how I feel. One thing is for certain, this mini-series did come to an end, and it did so with considerable grace. For as many directions as this story could have taken, it took one that I was not expecting. From the tone of last page of Issue #3, I was certain things were going to play out in a much darker fashion - and though the issue started out down that path, it took a drastic turn towards the light.---Story: 4.5 / 5....

In His Shadow 3

Highly Recommended!Blood, venom and shadows fill the pages of this issue - and we haven't even started talking about the bad guys. The city of Barcelona is once again under siege by the backwards preaching and ideology of The Inquisitor. Standard super-heroes need not apply, this city is well guarded by something else completely. This time around though, each past occurrence has been commemorated by bloody absolution, meant to flood the streets with fear and confusion. Only the city's dark daugh...

That's Nasty! 0

Recommended (if you like Honey Badgers)But remember, Honey Badgers don't care about you.The good news is, it appears that the creative team (primarily: Fred Perry) on this book does care about you. Okay, okay, I realize that this wasn't widely distributed - in fact you probably have never even heard of this book's existence. It is a shame, as it is a pretty decent story, highlighting the infamous internet meme of the Honey Badger.I do not have the release and distribution details for this book, ...

Out of the 616 into the Fire 0

Recommended! This series was teased a LONG time ago in Point One released back in November 2011. Back then, my reaction to this story-line was as follows (based on the short story in that Point One issue):The Myth of ManWow. Gritty. Gruesome. I loved it. Completely different art (and feel) than the rest of the book. It is dark, lonely and graphic. I loved it. I was not familiar with the characters, at all, but that did not stop me from enjoying the mind-$#@! that ensued. Great concept, great plot...

Tying in the Tie-Ins 0

Recommended!I was very skeptical about this mini-series, but I decided to get it anyway. I am super excited about the upcoming move, so I figured this would tide me over for a couple of weeks. Not looking at the creative team beforehand, I came to this book with very little expectations, both for the art and the story. I was very pleasantly surprised to see the creative team that was assigned. The story is solid, it focused in on much of the existing Marvel Cinematic Universe (apparently Multive...

Really... 0

Highly Recommended! This may be one of the best comic covers... ever. I love it! It is funny, because when I picked the issue up, I didn't even notice Doom was on the cover. It was like an optical illusion. Once my eyes focused, saw doom, it was over, I was in love. This cover + its fabulous guts make it one of the best ongoing series today.Yes Doom, Really. The art and the story continue to fascinate, as we dive even deeper into the espionage, murders and inch ever closer to the true intention(s)...

Awwwkward... 3

I am not sure if I recommend this book or not. It is a classic "filler" issue. If you are collecting the series then you will definitely want to pick this up, if you are looking for a high-action exciting beginning to a new story arc, then this issue is not likely for you. In fact, this issue is quite the opposite. It is a Doctor Strange centric issue, that barely touches on his abilities. It is relaxed and mostly just delves into his personal life - something we saw a bit of in the beginning of...

You Sank My Battleship 0

Recommended! This was a fitting end to this mini-series. It was believable, didn't feel rushed and came to a clean and appropriate for the genre conclusion. I knew this mini-series wasn't anything that would blow me away - it was just a fun, easy read with a bunch of interesting characters. Just like the cover states, quoting ComicBookResources.com, "Proof that every character has the potential to be a great character." I wasn't aware they were printing online review quotes on the cover of comics...

Unbinding Stone of Plot Devices 1

Not Recommended (unless you are collecting this series and want the "conclusion")This was a very disappointing end to a story that had quite a bit of potential. It felt rushed and hacked together. The only real saving grace was the art, which was fantastic. I guess I should give the creative team credit for actually tieing all the loose ends - each of the various plot threads did come to some kind of a conclusion. It was just a shame to read and experience this kind of rushed ending to a pretty ...

All Your Vengeance Are Belong To Usssss... 0

HIGHLY Recommended (after you read 13.1, 13.2, 13.3,13.4 and probably even 10-13 for context)This was a fantastic, perfect even, conclusion to the Circle of Four mini-event. The best part, we discover WHY this arc ended up in the Venom series, instead of Hulk (as it was obvious why it wasn't part of X-23 or Ghost Rider). It may have even made a bit of sense as its own mini-series, but likely wouldn't have had as much traction. Implementing the Circle of Four mini-event/arc as part of the "Point"...

Face It 0

Recommended! The multi-threaded, multi-cliffhanger story continues! We still have four separate plot streams that have yet to converge, other than their main link to the Otherworld arc. The creative team is doing a great job keeping the stories separate, yet conveying a sense of overall story unity. The panels and page layouts are structured very well to ensure each thread is distinct (outside the obvious difference in characters per thread). The story is progressing nicely and we see a lot happe...

A Heart to Heart 0

Recommended! We are almost there, almost to the battle between Thor and "Tanarus". "Tanarus" in quotes for a reason, because in no way has his true identity been held back from the reader. He has always been, since his introduction in Issue #8, Ulik the Troll. I believe they could have done so much more with the character if they had kept that bit a secret, this entire arc seems a bit sloppy and "Tanarus" is one of the main reasons.I am all on board with the misdirection, sabotage, and overall ar...

I'm Idaho 0

It is hard to say whether I recommend this comic or not... mostly not, but if you are a big fan of the Simpsons, you are likely a big fan of Ralph - and for that reason you may want to pick this Ralph one-shot up.I picked it up because it caught my eye. I was like, "Ralph has his own comic?" then, "Why not, it is only $2.99". I am not sure what I expected, but this set of Ralph stories just didn't meet wherever my expectations happened to be set. Don't get me wrong, there were a bunch of redeemi...

For A Very Long Time 0

Recommended! The story really has started to come into its own within the pages of this issue of the FF. The story has also really come together - it is not the confusing, meandering mess it was at the very beginning. This is not only because it has a direct tie (with direct references to Fantastic Four #603, dialog and all), but because there is a clear direction this book is taking independent of the Fantastic Four. It is really great to see two sides of the story - one from the "kids" and one ...

With Hell 0

Highly Recommended!Outside Hell, at the city limits of Vegas, the battle rages on with only Doctor Strange and Hellstorm holding back its fury. Inside Hell, Vegas appears on the outside, what it has fostered for so many years on the inside. Okay, maybe that was a bit far, but there certainly was A LOT of symbolism in its depiction. The art in this issue was stupendous! The panels filled the pages, many to the bleeding edge. The pages were dark, yet colorful with hellish shades of red and yellow. ...

Hello Father 0

Highly Recommended!Though it started out slow, it certainly gained enough momentum for me to be on the edge of my seat by the last page! And this is not to say there was no action in the beginning, not at all. It was more to the fact that my brain had a hard time correlating the action at the start of this issue with where my memories aligned two issues back (last book in the series was a "Times Past" issue).Either way, James Robinson has done it again, and with him on this book, another great a...

Reality Cinema 0

Recommended! It looks like we are back to a four issue mini-series (if you remember the last issue was branded with: "2 of 6") - this is a shame, because I am really enjoying this book and believe more issues would better suit the story. Be that as it may, this issue was still solid and offers up a great plot transition to the final battle and last issue in the mini. The action picks up where it left off last issue, Lucien attempting to rescue Chanti from one of the invading alien Isopods. The act...

Planes, Trains and ... 0

Recommended! This was a great conclusion to a well thought out and planned mini-series. Though I would have liked the final battle to last a bit longer, I was satisfied with how the fighting was portrayed and how it ended. The art is absolutely fantastic. It is a good thing, since this book was very "silent" - that is if you don't count the crashing of heavy equipment and transpiration devices. I would love to see these artists work on some of my other favorite titles - they really made this seri...

Oh, Hell... 0

Recommended!I understand that this is a "Point" initiative mini-event, but it does feel that the "Venom" aspects of the story have all but left the story. I did manage to find one image to include with this review that doesn't spoil the story/premise and actually shows a bit of good ole Venom...That said, this book was all about the individual experience of the Circle of Four as they transcend their previous lots in life to where they are now. As of the last issue, they were already "In Hell", s...

Mad, Mad World 0

Highly Recommended! We continue with the "Forever" arc with this, the fourth part to this amazing story. So much happens in this issue it is hard to remember it all. The good news is, the art is so beautiful, you won't mind going back for a refresher. I was really surprised how the Galactus/Celestial fight ended up. I guess when dealing with a scale that starts with Galactus and then only gets larger, it is hard to imagine what actually might happen. I think the art and the direction of the story...

The Secret and the End 0

Recommended!Once again, both stories offer what we have come to expect from the All-Star Western brand: action, suspense, gore and glory. Both stories are the continuation from their respective arcs in Issue 5 and both offer something of an ending, at least for now. While there are different artists for each story, both fit the times and the feel intended for this western book. I have to admit that some of the art for the Jonah Hex story is really starting to distract me, but I shouldn't complai...
