That was during DC's DCYou marketing initiative, and part of it involved giving everyone new outfits; like Flash and Green Arrow getting suits that sort of resembled their CW stuff, and so on. Superman at the time of Superheavy was depowered to something like Spider-Man to Luke Cage level and his DNA wasn't registering as Kryptonian. Because of that, his previous suit --it was Kryptonian armor that was keyed to Kryptonian DNA-- wouldn't work so he had to wear jeans and a t-shirt he got from a store since he couldn't wear his previous suit and couldn't gain access to the Fortress to make a new one.

@thekinfing: Based on the most streamlined set of events in Post crisis DC Comics, the Batfamily timeline, I put Superman in his early forties by this point, I estimated 42 but that was based on a couple of assumptions.

Pre-Flashpoint I would've agreed with you; Pre-Superman Reborn, I would've agreed with you. But after Reborn, I'm pretty sure they split he difference and dropped him into his 30s so he could be roughly around the age of Batman again, who's no older than 36.

Because Superman's powers matured over time and he was physically exerting himself since he was a child, doing farm work that machines do with his bare hands. He got muscular because he strained himself, like people with big muscles do when they work out in general. Kara, already physically matured by time she got her powers, wouldn't be straining as much as Clark did in his youth, so she lacks muscles and will until she's been punching people and lifting ships for 10+ years.

I'm aware of the brief confrontation Supes had with Helspont in the new 52, but I know they also had a run in with eachother pre flashpoint because I've seen the scans. I just have no clue where to find it I've tried looking. Any clue what issue(s) this took place in? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If they encountered each other at any point, it would've been during the Dreamwar crossover. But I'm sure they only interacted during the New 52.

He's a brawler not a martial artist

So is Supergirl.

Brawler does not imply exclusive use of fists.

Not to mention the fact that he spends a bunch of time with Batman and Wonder Woman. If your best friends kick all day, you're going to learn how to kick by proxy. Not to mention, simply fighting for 10+ years will teach you how to fight; you're not just going to punch all day when elbows and kicks will be more effective just because you're a "brawler."

He did farm work and steadily did more ridiculous things--often things with his bare hands that traditionally required heavy machinery--and built up his strength that way.

And if the Morrison New 52 run is still canon in some form, then a lot of his early career stuff would've given him muscles, too. And his constant work as Superman would maintain his physique.
