I dount think it could happen in the DCU

Things are too nicey nice for the true Heroes in the DCU. The people just love them too much and too many normals would side against the Government to stop it.

I agree. That is the main difference between Marvel and DC. In the DCU every body loves the heros. In the MU people fear them.

Not to mention there is too much melodrama in Marvel, and they keep ending them in cop out endings in most of the main-stream comics.
