Journeying Into Uncharted Territory 2

I want to start right off the bat by saying I rated this two stars, but it could easily get graded far higher, depending on where they go with the story. It is one of those issues that it was just strange, because it shocks you just as much as it shocks the title character. It is an ORIGIN STORY, and it is not bad, it is not spectacular. To me, it is just curious, even if it fits. SPOILERS BELLOW!! H'El goes back to Krypton before the explosion and the man responsible for nursing him back to he...

Avengers vs. X-Men #01 - Light In The End of Tunnel 2

IntroductionEver since Schism I have lost my faith in good, dramatic writting in comic books. Not that Schism was responsible for it alone, but the lack of depth and the nature of comic book writing (where the stakes might look high, but mean nothing in the end) slowly wore me out, especially since my favorite superhero team (the X-Men) had been facing one threat of race-ending proportions after another. Every small death of even an extra like Onyxx mattered to a race of 200 people. But eventual...

Wolverine and the X-Force - If No One is Gonna Say It... 2

Then might aswell be me.What in the name of Galactus is this issue? After we are treated with some of the best arcs in recent memory, we are soon given something to remember us just how bad comic books can really be. The Big Events have finally touched X-Force, and it's as subtle as the change of artist in this issue.WARNING: The following review is not going to be pretty. In fact, it will be just as bad as the comic itself. The StoryFollowing the events of Dark Angel Saga we were left with a sen...

X-Force - Once In a Blue Moon 4

It is rare, in the world of comic books, to read something truly memorable, touching and with the feel of completion. For the longest time my biggest gripe with how the industry handles itself is that they never let the characters rest and be themselves, always walking torwards the next big event. This keeps them from growing, from being in meaningful stories and from being consistent. This last number of X-Force, however, confirmed to me that it is possible to write powerful stories in comic boo...

Schism #5 - No Punch. 5

Schism #5 is out, but the best of it were the few pages that Marvel let loose on the net a few weeks ago. They had drama and told us the story of how Schism should have been: intense and deep. The actual conclusion paled in comparision.WARNING:Full of Spoilers. The ArtVery good art. Everyone is depicted well, and I couldn't spot a single flaw (aside from Wolverine escaping from the sentinel's fist like it was a billboard). It was by far the best part of the book. The StoryForgive me if I am a bit ...

Schism #4 - Is It Too Late? 8

Schism #4 is finally here and I gotta say: it's a puzzle. It's better than most of the issues, and the geniuses are apparently gone, but after our roller-coaster ride we must ask ourselves: was all that travesty needed, and most importantly, will Schism make it up fast enough?WARNING:Full of Spoilers. The ArtNot great, not terribly bad. The rendition of the young characters is most of times atrocious, and most of them (I am looking at YOU, Idie) look far older than they should. There are some awe...

Green Lantern vs The Gray Power of Critic Rage 2

Green Lantern Review (Take II): Internet critics can be harsh. But they can also be rather wrong. This is one of the rare cases in which I have to say: all the super-negative reviews I read about this movie were dead-on mistaken. Not only Green Lantern is one of the best superhero movies around, it's far more ambitious than it looks. Green Lantern was released in the United States a while ago, and even though I read some reviews (all of them negative) I still went to see it in the opening day w...

Generation Hope #10 - What Schism Should Have Been. 0

So, Generation Hope #10 is out, and it's a Schirsm tie-in. That surely means it's terrible, right?  I am very pleased to say it isn't. GH #10 focuses on the RIGHT bunch of kids. The ones we give a damn about, and it's a pretty interesting voyage with few mistakes along the way. If you want to know from me if you should buy the comic, I tell you right now: do it. If you want to know why, read along!  This issue follows Idie (and the whole story is told inside Idie's head sometime after the event...

Schism #3 - What's The Point? 2

Schism #3 is out, but by now all the shock it could cause with it's ludicrous stunts is used up, right?  Right. I read through this book insanely fast. There's almost nothing left. I may sound bitter because we are now in the third issue, and it's pretty obvious that nothing is going to negate the crap that is this event. A missed oportunity.  WARNING:Full of Spoilers.  The ArtMaybe it's a matter of personal taste, but Daniel Acuña's art looks dark and contrasts a lot with the past two issues. T...

Schism #2 - Going Nowhere Fast. 8

Schism #2 is out, and after reading it, I gotta say: We are in for a bumpy ride. Thing is... is it necessarily a good thing? No. In fact, it's bad. Very, very bad.  WARNING:Full of Spoilers.  The ArtThe art was overall bad. Of course it's not terrible to the point you cringe (most of times), but in between Scott's new creepy look (the low point of the magazine), Wolverine's face, Quentin Quire's tooth-canyon and awkward poses, we are left with not so many high-points in this department. Not too ...

Schism #1: Was it worth the wait? 0

Okay. So we have endured the endless teasing of Prelude to Schism, and here we are, the book is out. But was it worth the months waiting for it? And more importantly: if it's going to split the X-Men, does Schism #1 gives any reason for us to believe that this arc is going to justify it properly?    WARNING:Full of Spoilers.  The Art Okay, so the art was made by Carlos Pacheco, and it's pretty good. It's not entirely my style, but it's certainly one that it's not going to offend anyone, since i...
