I've noticed that there are some concerns about the reboot. Mainly the fear that nothing will change, just repeat. Let me clarify.
---
I bet the secrets to how I keep my scalp so shiny that when the Vine RPG began, things were lax and there were not as many rules and regulations floating around then as there is now. But as more people joined, more problems arise. Instead of changing the system, more was added to it with the hopes that it would be enough. And it was, for a short time anyway.
More and more things were piled upon the old system until it just became one huge clutter. Every time another problem came, something was added to 'fix' it. But it can't work completely, the problem is still there but restrained so it won't be much of a problem.
If we do a reboot then we can remake the system. We can put rules and regulations accordingly and try to smooth this out, not just have it as a clutter. Because the Vine is just a jumble of ideas -which is normally a good thing- but it has gotten so out of hand that we need to stop it.
We could think of a new way villains and heroes can interact. Instead of having every villain as a crazy, homicidal maniac, maybe we can just have them as super powered thieves who just want to escape with their loot. We can lower the stakes and make things easier for interactions. Currently, we have things at such high stakes that villains want to kill any hero they meet so the hero has to win. But if the only thing at stake is a famous painting then it would be alright for the villain to win one. We wouldn't go through the drama of who owns countries but maybe city blocks. This would also lessen the unneeded killing and destruction of cities that will never be referenced again. The Vine could easily move as a whole and give everyone a chance to play a part that will be recognized.
Second, we're not deleting anything. It would be completely optional. If you want your character just they way they are then keep them that way. If you did something you want recognized, keep it. It would be like the aftermath of Flashpoint, the basics are still there but things that want to be tweak or smoothed out will be taken care of.
I understand that, and agree that with the Reboot things can be put into place and smoothed out, but why can they not now? What is stopping people from actually fixing things now, with out the mega reboot. If you have not noticed many vine characters on this site have their stories and pasts tangles with others, mine, Dark Huntress' and others. Maybe no heavily but enough for it to be a little bit of an issue if those so called characters just uped left and the users made other accounts or altered their character cause of the reboot. In truth that would force people like me who might not want to do it to have no choice, because the plans, and past I built around those people along with possible future interactions I might have wanted to do are forced to a halt.
Either way whatever you say or how you say it the people left behind will inevitably have to change if they want to continue in the current run of things. I mean half the fun of creating an origin or a legacy, or a goal is having other characters other RPGers put into it. RPging is not something you do by yourself. I mean it wouldn't be that fun if you just wrote your own story and everything in the past was not relevant. One thing I like about RPGing with a few of the same people every now and then is because I've interacted with them before, touched base with them before we've built stories together etc, with the Reboot any relationships/friendships I might have had with a certain someone who chose to reboot their character would all be gone, I'd be alone again with sure tons of names of old viners in my bio but with out the actual people to continue interacting with, meeting with and growing in friendship or whatever character wise would be forced to stop. It would be like I just joined the vine all over again. What's the point of history if it is only going to be wiped and changed? If people want to reboot their characters they can do it personally but I still don't feel an entire vine reboot in necessarily for a simple problem that can be solved right now.
I know that sure history can be orgonized, and things might run smoother but doesn't that take the fun out of it? Trying to make everything work perfectly and fit perfectly? What would happen to people like Kurrent? Like Joe? All those vets that established the vine in the first place, with a reboot their names will be lost, people who established the RPGs who were the first, will simply be lost in the sands of time and their acts, everything they have done will be irrelevant and forgotten. Right now today I know of several Viners that have not been active for years not because of threads, but because of the RPG's I've seen them refferanced. What about Andferne? and other people who might not be coming back, sure we can remake things make them better smother make them work perfectly but dose that just mean that the old will be left behind? I can't stand in the way of progress if this is the way things are going to go they'll go that way, but it'll be hard and it'll take a lot of ACTIVE rpg'ers to have okay on this, active as in the people who post, not just people who pop out of the wood work and say aye!
But Dagger enough about this, what is the old system? Are you meaning Cannon stories? The way history happened? Because honestly the fun thing about RPGing is making you're own little world for your character, and no matter how much you make the past or establish canon things better in the Reboot there will be those things that'll be out of sync, that will eventually end up not working as time flys, I mean a viner or group of viners can not control the WHOLE RPG community, things will inevitably clash that's human nature for you. And everything if given enough time will become a huge clutter, but I guess its that way because at the time no one took the time to write anything down at the beginning so I can see what you mean with that.
But I don't believe it has gotten out of hand people have just stopped caring about it and don't want to deal with all that has happened and see the simplest way to wipe everything and not care about the past or past RPG's that have taken place, and I believe that's laziness, we've had fun RPG's in the past awesome interactions (RPGers in general) why do we have to erase all that which makes us a RPG community, a family?. And Why can we not make that kind of change now? Have a large scale RPG or something and that comes up so the villains who want to decide to change can and those that want to remain the same can, why do we have to wipe EVERYTHING CLEAN, when we could just make it optional in a Large scale RPG the past remains the past, and the future we make better, if characters wanted sure they could alter their own characters past but that's what people have been doing, I've changed Talon's past a few times and I've not had to Reboot her. People have altered their past look at CPG when he started he was just a mutant (or something) now his character is related to Eclipse and Cleopatra and he didn;t have to reboot her or back track.
And Viners have always had the option to change their character, make new. I've changed Talon in tons of ways, wiped some memories made things so that they never happened with out having to do well anything except not mention it and change my bio.

While I want to like the idea of a reboot, I'm also not exactly thrilled with the idea of everything previously done in RPGs and whatnot being completely erased..and I doubt I'd personally alter my character(s) much.
Agreed.
No point in a reboot then, ya'll would just be clinging to your old characters and old posts :)
Whatever people want to do is fine, I quit RPGin here anyway, but if your going to do it, do it all out.
It is not that we are clinging, its that our character at least mine are connected to others, and I would like to keep it that way where I can interact with that person and we actually have a history, we can talk about, battle about etc, its not fun if the past remains the same but no one else shares you're experiences and you are just on your own.
