I thought Summerslam was good overall but that run time didn't do it any favors in keeping me interested and the finish for both Rollins/Cena and Taker/Lesnar really have me scratching my head. First, Jon Stewart screwing Cena out of the belts made me happy because I desperately wanted Rollins to win but it didn't make much sense. I guess it means Stewart will be involved in more WWE product going forward which might be okay but to use a celebrity as a finish in your main title match makes no sense. Then the Taker/Lesnar finish was a joke imo. There has never been any precedent for the time keeper ringing the bell of his own accord (It was also impossible for him to see the tap from where he was unless he has some Superman x-ray vision). If that's how things work then why didn't he ring it for a DQ when Stewart hit Cena with a chair earlier in the night? This is all a work so things should at least have consistent internal logic. Plus, as many others have pointed out, that finish doesn't put heat on anyone really. Taker is playing heel but no one is going to boo him. Brock and Taker both "won" and "lost" so they protected no one and generated heat for the bell ringer and the ref... I was already struggling to care about this feud because I just think Taker is well beyond his prime but now I care even less. The inevitable Taker/Lesnar Wrestlemania rematch is not something I look forward to.
To continue on things that disappointed me...the diva's "revolution." How big of a gap in quality could there possibly be? On NXT Takeover we saw Sasha and Bailey put on a 5 star match that was easily the match of the whole weekend. Then we see a terrible Divas tag match on Summerslam that hardly utilized Sasha and did nothing to set up a future contender. Why did Brie take the pin? Why not have one of the NXT women pin Nikki to set up a future title shot?
Also, the Ziggler/Lana vs Rusev/Summer feud is just awful and I didn't want it to continue past Summerslam but of course it's going to. The count out finish was lame simply because I have no desire to see more segments with these guys. I love Ziggler and Rusev but this whole fighting over a girl feud is tiresome.
Dean Ambrose/Roman Reigns vs Bray Wyatt/Luke Harper was a fun match and the feud still has me somewhat interested so I won't give it much crap. I do think Reigns still needs to diversify his moveset. Spamming the superman punch in the middle of the match was pretty much his entire offense.
Sheamus vs Randy Orton was a bore as expected. Nothing really of note to discuss.
Now that I've thoroughly complained, I should mention some things I really liked. The New Day is amazing. Easily one of the most entertaining aspects of the main roster right now so I was glad to see them win. The Miz was extremely entertaining in the Intercontinental Championship match but I don't like Ryback or Big Show. Miz carried the match imo and made it enjoyable but more Ryback going forward isn't something I want. Stephen Amell was very good. Certainly much better than expected and I also love Stardust so that match was cool and I'm glad they kept it short. Kevin Owens and Cesaro was an awesome match with the correct outcome. I know a lot of people were probably conflicted but Owens needed the win much more. All he has been doing since that first Cena win has been losing so he needed a big win on a prominent show to hopefully get some momentum back.
So that's my long rambling review but...
TL:DR - Summerslam was an enjoyable show because the in-ring was good but some of the booking decisions really left me scratching my head. Especially after seeing a near perfect show out of NXT Takeover Brooklyn just the previous night.
