Johnny's origins is a bit murky, it is believed that he was born in a Louisiana bayou. With very little mention of his parents, it is believed that his father was a drunken rolling stone of a man. Often leaving Johnny with nothing but a half-empty bottle of booze, to fill his memory, he knew little of his pa. Taken to England by his mother, he was raised under the teachings of his ma's new lover. A quiet abusive lover, who beat and mistreated Johnny for many years, the boy was deeply scarred by the man...or, at least, that's how the story goes... But, it is known that he walked in on his mother’s adultery, as a child. As well, he witnessed his father’s death, at the hands of his mother’s new lover. The boy quickly fell into shock of the murder and ran away. Living in the mean streets at the age of a preteen, he somehow found his way to America, by the time he became a teen. Immediately getting lost in the new country, he found himself deep the foreign south. Robbing jewelry stores and stealing cars, being arrested in his adulthood, he was given the choice to join the army or serve a jail sentence. Choosing to go to the army, he was was shipped to a californian base. However, not being the best follower of authority, he eventually went AWOL, and escaped. Meanwhile, he would find the solitude was his worst from. Discovering that his mind had developed issues due to his childhood trauma, he shot a man in Reno. For this, He became a permanent resident of Folsom Prison.

Upon his transfer to San Quentin, he broke out, and ran for the southern swamp. With nothing but a guitar, he ran for the swampy lost lands of the Deep South. With the blues filling his path, he mind grew full of the misfortune of the living. Soon draping himself in nothing but black, he looked as grim as his mind knew. And, as he played his blues, with the graveyard surrounding him, he was soon joined by a forest roaming wolf. Liking the boy's skillful song, the creature decided to teach Johnny how to survive the forest around him. Finding kinship, they banded together…

But, he met trouble again, when he had a run-in with the law. They fought for two days, with him darting through the wetlands. He shot the sheriff, but was killed by the deputy, at the crossroads of the rural plains. And, as his body grew cold, his soul fell onto Hell’s highway. Working for a devil named Morphisto as a hunter of rogue demons, under the name 'Ed Blaze', Blaze was filled with a rage against evil, to help him find and kill said earthly evils. But, suddenly on the earthly plain, he was resurrected by the gypsy who had helped birth him. She explained that her mother had sold him off to her, upon his birth, and that she was going to collect his soul from the Devil. And, ever since, Johnny has worked for the gypsy as a headhunter.
