First Impressions

If your a fan of his, then your first meeting with Superion will be one of the greatest moments of your life. He'll descend from the sky like a messenger from on high. His very presence will make people stand up straighter, it makes them feel safer and grants them a sense of hope. Yet he won't float idly above you, he will walk amongst you, perhaps even swapping light banter with the local law enforcement officials. His voice is deep with a sense of benevolent authority, his expression is serious, but attentive and his actions are considered, but decisive. The overall impression is like meeting Moses, King Arthur and Abraham Lincoln all wrapped together into one person. Then before your mind can process all this, his super senses detect an emergency and he leaps into the air and is gone.

Intelligence: 6). Superion is a Super-Genius, but sometimes he acts dumber than he really is.

Durability: 7). Nigh-Invulnerable. Superion is able to barely survive the detonation of a 50 megaton nuclear warhead at ground zero.

Strength: 6). 100 Ton Strength Class. Superion can barely lift a mountain over his head.

Speed: 5). Hypersonic. Superion can fly at a maximum speed of Mach 50 in an atmosphere (Mach 100 in space) and Mach 40 while running on foot.

Agility: 6). Super-Human Reflexes, beyond the natural limits.

Stamina: 5). Super-Human. Superion is able to sustain peak exertion for one day before fatigue sets in.

Energy Projection: 5). Long range, duration and single energy type.

Fighting Ability: 4). Experienced Fighter.

Mental Power: 4). Trained, and experienced, in Torquasm Vo from his mother.

Physiology: Superion's cellular structure is much more dense, resilient, and biologically more effective than human tissue. He does not possess super-human strength levels despite his enhanced cellular ability without his cellular structure charged with yellow solar energy. Without such charging, his physical capabilities are identical to a human of his height and weight who engages in regular physical activity. As an alien, he possesses several organs whose functions are not yet disclosed or understood, but are believed to be part of, or the source of, his bio-matrix force field and reclamation aura. Superion's body also stores energy actively within his bio-cellular matrix as an energy pattern that is linked to his body's electromagnetic field. This energy powers most of his electromagnetic capabilities such as flight, heat vision and other "sight"-based abilities while supplementing his physical abilities to super-human levels.

Solar Energy Absorption: Superion’s cells function like a super battery, hyper metabolizing specific wavelengths of radiation as fuel to enable living functions and/or super-human abilities. Different wavelengths of radiation have different effects on Superion's physiology and well being, but his cells cannot absorb or utilize all types of radiation. The wavelength of a red sun enables his body to function on an identical level of a healthy human while the Earth's solar radiation in both it’s raw and filtered state through the Earth's atmosphere acts as fuel to enable him to use all of his powers. Every time Superion uses any of his super-human abilities, his body expends absorbed sunlight and he is capable of utilizing any of them to various degrees through controlled circumstances. The solar-based radiation of a foreign blue star proved to increase his known abilities under a yellow sun to a higher degree and enabled additional powers. The existence and constant exposure to proven "healthy" radiation sources is not required for him to live and utilize his powers, but prolonged periods without exposure to them and/or utilizing his powers will require Superion to recharge in order to live and continue using his powers.

Heat Vision: Superion can, as a conscious act, fire beams of intense heat at a target by looking at it. Typically, the power is seen as two beams of red light emanating from the eyes. These beams can be made invisible, allowing him to work undetected. The maximum temperature of his heat vision is said to rival the heat of a Star. He can also consciously determine the area affected, down to the microscopic level.

Over the course of time, and practice, Superion is now able to manifest Heat Energy from his hands and direct the energy where he desires.

Solar Flare: In times of extreme desperation, Superion can spontaneously release all his stored up solar energy in an explosive-like manner up to a radius of a mile. The heat of this explosion rivals the core temperature of the Sun itself and will destroy almost anything in it’s path. Since this power depletes all of Superion’s stored up solar energy, he loses all of his super-human powers until he can recharge again. To a lesser extreme, Superion can release a portion of his stored solar energy for a less powerful explosion. Doing this will not de-power him, but it will weaken him depending on how much stored solar energy he uses to activate this power. To a lesser extent, Superion can make his skin heat up or even glow white hot. He has gotten to the point where he can easily cause his entire body, or a portion of it, to glow so bright as to cause temporary blindness to his enemies.

Super-Breath: Superion can create hurricane force winds by blowing, and also chill his breath to freeze a target. He can also breathe in large amounts of air to dispel clouds of gas by exhaling it.

Enhanced Senses: Superion possesses a number of enhanced senses, which include:

  • [1. Electromagnetic Spectrum Vision]: He can see into all of the EM Spectrum. Superion can see and identify radio/television and any and all broadcast/transmitted frequencies, allowing him to avoid detection through radar or satellite monitoring methods.
  • [2. Enhanced Sense of Smell]: Paragon has an enhanced sense of smell, capable of detecting scents from miles away even if the scents have been degraded over by time and weather factors.
  • [3. Microscopic Vision]: The ability to see extremely small objects and images down to the sub atomic level.
  • [4. Night Vision]: Superion can see perfectly at night, even in the absence of any, and all, light.
  • [5. Super Hearing]: Superion has incredible hearing at extreme variances of sound and pitch frequency, allowing him to pick up noises from hundreds of miles away. He has shown enough control to block out ambient sounds to focus on a specific source/frequency. Part of this is believed to be physical and part of it is believed to be psionic in nature. How else can one explain the fact Superion can hear a sound from hundreds of miles away in an instant when sound does not travel that fast? Thus, some scientists theorize that Superion's Super Hearing must be at least partially clairvoyant.
  • [6. Telescopic Vision]: The ability to focus his vision to see something at a great distance, without violating the laws of physics.
  • [7. Thermal Vision]: The ability to see objects, or people, as blobs of heat in various degrees of temperature. Superion can even see the heat left behind by a warm object or person who has recently moved.
  • [8. X-Ray Vision]: Even though Superion can ‘see through’ walls with this power, this is not true X-Ray Vision. Instead, Lucas manipulates the electromagnetic radiation around an object in order to form a mental ‘image’ inside his mind, which allows him to ‘see’ through walls as if he actually had true X-Ray Vision. Since this power is passive, this ability does not generate harmful radiation in the same manner as a focused projection of hard X-rays.

Nigh-Invulnerability: Superion’s body is Nigh-Invulnerable due to his super-human dense cellular and anatomical structure as well as his radiating bio-electrical aura. Superion is under some circumstances resistant or immune to different forms and levels of lacerations, blunt force trauma, energy-based assaults, falls from great heights, explosions, the cold void of space, toxins, gases and all known diseases on Earth. Superion can also survive the blast of a nuclear warhead up to 50 megatons as well as entering the Earth's sun and emerging unharmed.

  • Bio-Electric Aura: Superion’s supercharged bio-electric "aura" acts as an invisible "force field" radiating within a few millimeters from his skin. He can willfully utilize his aura strengthening it's power to a greater degree to provide an additional defense against certain levels of physical and energy attacks for a considerably short period of time, but doing so can endanger him should the attempted feat prove inefficient for any reason. Superion utilizes his aura by expanding it around a person(s) or object(s) to enable their structural stability when lifting or traveling with them.

Super Strength: Different periods and intensities of exposure to Earth's solar radiation can cause Superion’s strength to fluctuate over time. He is fully capable of lifting an enormous pyramid and flying it to Mars without any strain and having the strength necessary to shatter small moons with repeated blows. Unhealthy levels of high exposure to solar radiation can exceed Superion's "normal" strength level, however, but this rarely happens.

Healing Factor: Despite his Nigh-Invulnerability to injury, it is possible to injure Superion. If injured, his body is capable of quickly repairing damaged tissue with much greater speed and efficiency than the normal human body. Minor cuts and bruises heal within minutes, a broken arm would heal within hours and more extreme injuries would heal within days. Superion's ability to heal so quickly also renders him immune to all known Earthly diseases, toxins, acids, biological weapons, etc.

  • Longevity: Superion ages much slower and lives much longer than normal human beings, so long as he continuously retains enough yellow solar radiation in his body.

Super-Human Stamina: He has the ability to maintain continuous physical actions for at least an entire day before showing signs of fatigue.

Self-Sustenance: Superion does not need to eat or sleep (but is still capable of doing so) and can travel in space as well as underwater unprotected. However, he still needs to breathe and can only hold his breath for up to 2hrs at a time.

Flight: Superion is capable of flying at Hypersonic speeds in a planetary atmosphere and he is two times faster while flying through space. His upper limit is Mach 50. That is 38,363.5 mph & 10.6 miles per second.

Super-Speed: Superion is capable of moving, reacting, thinking and running at super-human speeds. He can use this power to disarm opponents, catch bullets or shrapnel and cross great distances in seconds. Superion can even perceive his world in slow motion so that nano-seconds seem like minutes and seconds seem like hours. His upper limit is Mach 40. That is 30,690.8 mph & 8.5 miles per second.

Torquasm Vo: This is a discipline that Superion has learned and sometimes uses. It is basically a means of focusing ones mental discipline to help fight adverse effects such as mental domination by putting him in an ultra-alert state of consciousness while remaining perfectly at peace with himself and his surroundings. This allows Superion perfect control and supremacy in battle. It can also be used to manipulate someone's mind. For example: Superion once used this ability during his fight against the Annihilator to create an illusion as a distraction. He even once used it to fight someone on the astral plane along with astral weapons and armor. Other things include:

--Being able to see psionic energy.

--Can create a psionic arena around him and others.

--Can send mental images of any kind to another person's mind so they see what he wants them to see.

Note: Superion learned Torquasm Vo from his mother so most Plutonians will NOT possess this power.

Chrysonite: Maxine Maxima worked long, and many, hours inventing a weapon that could beat Superion. When she was met with success, she called her secret weapon, Chrysonite, and it’s effect is directly poisonous to Superion. Chrysonite, which appears as a glowing green crystal, is extremely rare and hard to find. It emits a deadly radiation that poisons Superion’s body, bringing him intense pain and, with a long enough exposure, it will kill him.

Thanks to Superion's Solar-Suit, anyone attempting to scan his body to find a weakness in order to replicate the effects of Chrysonite will be met with failure as the Solar Suit warps and defies any and all scans because of the constant warping field effect it emits.

Confidence: Superion's powers are based on how confident he is in any given situation. If, for example, he believes he can lift an entire city the size of New York, then he can. If he doubts himself, then his powers weaken and he is not able to accomplish the desired feat.

High-Pitched Noises: Because of his super hearing, Superion's ears are extra-sensitive to extreme noises.

Lead: Superion cannot see through lead with his X-ray Vision.

Magic: Superion's biomatrix is his most powerful asset, but the strength of this field is also it’s greatest weakness. Its permeability to certain wavelengths makes him vulnerable to certain radiations, particularly magical energies whose chaotic electromagnetic or extra dimensional signatures disrupt this force field. Superion's vulnerability to magic varies depending upon the special effects of the magic. No magic seems to be able to directly destroy him unless it comes from a semi-divine or divine source. He can be injured and worn down by magical entities. Magic can have powerful and unpredictable effects on Superion and his magical enemies have often proven to be the most dangerous.

Physical Trauma, Technology & Energy: On numerous occasions, Superion has fallen victim to extreme physical trauma. Like any other human, it is possible for Superion to die once enough damage has been inflicted on him by beings equal to or stronger than him. Sufficiently powerful technology and high powered energy attacks have also proven to be somewhat effective against Superion, depending on how powerful it is.

Solar Energy Dependency: Superion’s powers will eventually weaken without replenishing his energy reserves with normal (yellow) sun radiation, especially if he doesn't have any direct contact with yellow sunlight. When exposed to the same red solar radiation as a red sun, it causes Superion to slowly lose his powers over the course of days, depending on how often he uses his powers, until the exposure to yellow sunlight will reverse this effect.

NOTE: Superion's Solar Suit negates this weakness.

Actor: Because of his natural talent and time as an actor, Superion has an incredible gift when it comes to acting a part or playing a role.

Detective: Being a Police Officer for the Metro City PD has made Lucas an accomplished detective.

Expert Combatant: Due to having super powers most of his life and constantly engaging in battle with various foes, Superion has over time become an excellent hand-to-hand fighter utilizing a fighting style that directly complements his super powers. Superion's combat versatility allows him to adapt to any foe and beat them. Additionally, Superion has been trained in boxing by Championship Boxers, Warriors in Gladiator combat methods, wrestling and even learned some advanced martial arts techniques by Theron King.

Genius Level Intellect: He has shown incredible intelligence and computational abilities; his mind works sharply and with extreme speed relative to earth-humans. Superion's analytical powers enable him to read information directly from machines, recall anything he sees & and experiences and even build and invent fantastic technology.

Indomitable Will: Superion has learned how to place mental inhibitors on his own power so that he doesn't accidentally "flex and cause the tectonic plates to shift." To him, they are the barriers that allow him to feel human enough to live a healthy life and he only ever releases one of them when fighting a particularly powerful opponent or performing a difficult task.

Investigation: Both as a super-hero and as a Private Detective, Superion is an expert at gathering evidence from all kinds of sources as well as investigating cases with expert skill and precision.

Leadership: Superion has proven many times over his ability to command respect and inspire others with his charisma, ardor and idealism.

Marksmanship: During his time in the Police Department, Clark has been trained in various firearms and is an expert in their operation, maintenance and use.

Ventriloquism: Used to practice in High School.

Solar Suit: Using his incredible intellect, Superion built for himself a suit made from nanotechnology. This suit is capable of absorbing any, and all, ambient energy around Superion and convert it into solar energy for him to use. This enables him to operate under any condition that prevents him from absorbing solar energy from a yellow star. During dire emergencies, like when facing a planet busting opponent, the solar suit can temporarily boost Superion's power level to match to enable him to beat his opponent. Under ordinary circumstances, he ignores this option because activating it is exceedingly dangerous and he would rather not accidentally cause the death of innocent people.

The Solar-Suit can change form into almost any article of clothing. If the suit is damaged, it automatically repairs itself within minutes or hours, depending on the damage. Superion can also mentally command his suit to cease repairing itself if the situation calls for it.

The Solar-Suit is also capable of giving 21st century technology a false reading on his biology to enable Superion to be mistaken as a regular human with nothing unusual about him. The suit also happens to prevent any, and all, power dampening (and draining), technology, or super abilities, from robbing him of his powers. The Solar-Suit is also immune to all known EMP’s and cannot be hacked into or stolen. The suit also has built-in defenses against magnetic and telekinetic abilities so those beings who possess those powers cannot manipulate his suit and any attempt at doing so will activate the suit's warping field effect, which will cause such powers to warp around Superion without effecting himself or his suit.

As mentioned previously, the Solar Suit masks Superion's weakness to Chrysonite radiation so any attempted scan to determine Superion's weaknesses will come up with nothing because of the warping field effect that is emitted by his suit.

Fortress of Solitude: Superion’s home away from home and found deep beneath the Antarctic ice, hidden from all human eyes and scanning technology. The Fortress will only recognize Superion. Anyone else is considered an intruder and kept out with technology and defenses that are 200 years ahead of anything on Earth. Inside Superion’s fortress is an assortment of technolical wonders he has collected over the years in his many battles with super-villains. It also contains other wondrous, and various, technology, a zoo of rare alien animals, an armory and a science lab for Superion’s scientific experiments.

A young Prince Kallus
A young Prince Kallus

The being known as Superion was born as Kallus on an alien world unlike anything anyone has ever seen. There, he was a royal Prince. He was destined to grow up and become a King and rule over his people with benevolence and a strong hand. Unfortunately, enemies of his family murdered his parents and siblings. Kallus's parents placed him in a small space craft and launched him towards Earth just before their own assassination.

Kallus crash landed on Earth, automatically taking on the appearance of a human thanks to the technology inside his space craft. Kallus went to great lengths to hide his ship before he ventured out into the world. After spending some time on the streets, he was placed in a foster home until two kind, and loving, people adopted him. Kallus never told his adopted parents his true origins until his teen years. It caused it a bit of friction at first, but they eventually accepted him for who and what he was. During this time living on a farm, Kallus, now Sam, learned the value of hard work and discipline as taught by two loving, salt of the earth, people who loved him dearly. As Sam grew, he was a perfectly normal boy with ordinary problems.

Sam's powers eventually manifested themselves and he quickly learned how to use them through trial and error. He grew up and became a police officer in Metro City. There, he made his debut as Superion in the year of 1938 where he fought crime and saved not only the city, but the entire world many times over.

In order to avoid being drafted into the second world war, Sam used his advanced alien technology to give himself flat feet that had no arch. The army passed him by and he continued his career in law enforcement.

By 1945, Superion had a wife and a son. Unfortunately, tragedy would strike when Superion would die fighting the Nazi's and helping the allies win World War II. His son would grow up without a father, but Sam did leave behind journals that revealed he was an alien from another world, as well as the advanced alien technology he brought with him. Included in the journals was everything he learned about how to use his powers and the responsibility that went with them.

Superion, as he appeared in 1966
Superion, as he appeared in 1966

In 1966, the son of Sam Hawke decided to make his debut as Superion. Christopher decided to update the suit for modern times as he followed his father's footsteps and became a police officer.

Chris was raised being told the truth about his father, reading his journals countless times and learning all about his powers. He was proud to take up the family legacy as he battled all kinds of evil throughout the 70's and most of the 80's. Chris, like his father, saved Metro City, and the world, many times over from countless threats.

Chris would also get married have a son, naming him Jonathan and knew that his son would one day take up the family name of Superion.

Unfortunately, like his father before him, Chris's family would suffer another tragedy. In 1987, Superion would receive a signal from somewhere in deep space that was coming from the direction of the same planet his father came from. Deciding to investigate, he took his father's space craft, repaired it, and took off into space. He was never seen, or heard, from again. To this very day, no one knows what truly happened to him.

A year after his father's disappearance, Nathan Hawke took the name of Superion and made his debut as a masked vigilante. A few years later, he got married and had a son that he named Lucas. Unlike his father and grand father, Nathan had lost his powers when he was a teenager due to an accident with a magic artifact. Because of this, Nathan found it hard to live up to the family legacy that had been built. He worried he too would suffer some sort of tragedy and wondered if it was some sort of family curse. Unlike his fathers before him, Nathan decided to go into early retirement and focus solely on starting a boxing career.

Shortly after puberty, Lucas began to exhibit super abilities far beyond those of mortal men. The first time a power manifested itself was when Lucas got trampled by a cow but came out of it unscathed. The second time was when he was playing ball and lifted a car with one arm in order to get the ball that had rolled under it. With each new power that developed, Lucas hated the changes that he was going through wishing nothing more than to be a normal kid. Knowing her son inherited powers he did not want, Lucas's mother still loved him and raised him even while she tried her best to help him cope with his growing powers. With the urging of his mother, Nora, Lucas started to wear glasses made of a specialized glass that his father had taken from his grandfather's space ship that would keep his vision powers in check and help maintain control over them.

One night while at a party, a close friend named Kenny became drunk. Lucas was unaffected by the alcohol because of his powers and offered to drive his buddy home. But Kenny insisted he could drive and the decision to let him would haunt Lucas for rest of his life. Kenny crashed the car, totaled it and ended up dying in the process. Lucas would forever regret the day he could have saved his friend's life but chose not to. He vowed then and there that he would never allow something like that to happen again.

Lucas was unable to keep his powers hidden and act like a normal kid. Instead, he adopted a costume his mother made with an "S" logo he had and his parents designed and took off his glasses. Nora tried to stop him but knew she could not so she urged her son to work behind the scenes. It was then that Lucas revealed he was not interested in being a Super-Hero. He was more interested in using his powers to get rich and famous, much to his parents dismay.

During his high school days, Lucas took drama class and something inside him clicked. He loved pretending to be someone else, memorizing lines and wearing different costumes. Lucas knew exactly what to do to become rich and famous. He would use his powers to get into acting and achieve his dream of being an actor. Lucas had no desire to take over the family business of running Hawke Industries. The young teenager was self-absorbed and full of himself. Lucas's powers made him arrogant and he felt like nothing could hurt him. This was more than just typical teenage rebellion. As a result, Lucas had alienated his parents, his sister and his friends. In later years, he would come to regret these decisions very deeply.

Feeling the need to protect his family's privacy, Lucas changed his name to Samson Rey, dumped his glasses and set off for Hollywood to make a name for himself. While in Los Angeles, Samson got a job at a local restaurant when it's owner took pity on him. While off of work, Samson spent most of his free time looking for a job in acting. To his utter dismay, no one was interested in hiring the young teenager.

Samson as Superboy
Samson as Superboy

In desperation, Samson revealed he had powers in order to get acting jobs. It worked and soon he was constantly being offered roles, some of which Kal had to turn down because there were so many of them. He would eventually accept a recurring role in the Battlestar TV show. Kal earned plenty of praise, even from the critics, for his work and natural acting ability. After learning about a new show called The New Adventures of Superboy, Samson decided to addition for the part and very nearly got beat out by another actor for the role. The other guy, Simon by name, won the part of Superboy but he made countless demands to change the script and the scenes he was in. After Simon was fired by a frustrated, and angry, director, Samson was called and was offered the main role in 'The New Adventures of Superboy' TV show.

The New Adventures of Superboy lasted only 4 seasons before being cancelled, but it helped launch Samson's career as a rising star with numerous awards for best actor and break out star of the year. With his powers, he did all of his own stunts and saved directors a lot of money from having to resort to CGI and special effects. Fans of the show tried to save it with letters and petitions, especially since the ratings had still been good enough for another season. But the producers decided to turn the show into a movie franchise instead.

Samson went on to reprise his role as Superboy in one feature film, the last two being shot back to back with the role of Superboy going to a different actor. While the first Superboy movie was a stunning success, the last two were disappointments but still managed to gain a small cult following. A chief complaint among the critics was the unnecessary recasting of Samson Rey as Superboy, a sore point that still exists today in some circles as many fans consider Samson the perfect actor who has ever played Superboy on the small or big screen. When asked about the decision to recast him as Superboy, Samson responds with only this: Creative differences.

During the years filming The New Adventures of Superboy TV series, Samson met and fell in love with Lana Lemaris, who was also playing a character on the same TV series. The two would eventually get married, but Samson would soon learn that he no longer had a private life. Everywhere he went, cameras and reporters followed him. And then disaster would strike as Lana would suffer an accident while filming one of her movies. For all his power, Samson could not get to her in time and his wife died in his arms.

Samson was so stricken with grief that he locked himself away in his studio apartment for an entire month. By the time he left, he left everything and Samson did some serious soul searching. For years, Lana had been trying to talk Samson into being a Super-Hero rather than an actor but the young actor did not listen. All Samson wanted was to be rich, famous and have fun acting. But after losing the woman he loved, play time was over and Samson lost the will to continue on with his acting career.

Lucas Hawke
Lucas Hawke

Samson gave up his stage name that everyone knew him by and retook his real name, this time donning the glasses once again and entering police academy. He graduated at the top of his class and became a police officer. Years later, he eventually became a detective before turning into a private detective. As Superion, Lucas has a lot to prove as the public still looks upon him as an actor and some would say, a failure at that. But as he keeps working as a hero, the public's opinion of him is slowly changing and they are beginning to take him seriously. Only time will tell if that trend continues...
