My Favourite Marvel & Some DC Superheroes (Outdated)

List items

  • Spider-man is definitely the most well-rounded, most interesting superhero. I have pretty much loved this web-head as long as I can remember. He is the common man, average guy that just happened to be bit by a radioactive spider. It is flaws that I think make a character and spider-man continues to make mistakes and ultimately unlike a lot of other top tier superheroes, stay human and relatable.Spider-man is one of the most fun and banterous (yes, I know that's not an actual word) superheroes and I think there is something to be said about an icon who doesn't take himself too seriously.

  • The avengers got me back into comics and I think it is awesome how perhaps the most relatable and funny character (traits which I have already described as important^) in the avengers (Agent Phil Coulson) looks up to Cap. Captain america has the ability to inspire confidence in all of us. Not only in most of the marvel universe but also in real life. He is the quintessential patriot and someone that never gives in.

  • If you have ever felt angry then the hulk becomes instantly identifiable. The Hulk is a great character because as Bruce Banner he is perhaps the smartest scientist on the planet and as the Hulk he is the strongest individual in the marvel universe with essentially limitless strength. It is also great to see a character seemingly constantly on the run from the U.S army, making us question wether this hero is a hero at all. However overall I think the Hulk will always continue to be one of Stan Lee's greatest heroes. One last thing Hulk, SMASH!

  • Iron Man is likely Marvel's fastest growing and possibly most popular icon. He has benefited almost no end from the superhero movie craze having had a stellar portrayal by Robert Downey Jr. Now almost everyone knows how this billionaire, genius, playboy, philanthropist escaped death by building an advanced suit of armour. I love the science theme and the struggle of alcoholism. Iron Man is one of the coolest and most badass character there is wether he is suiting up transformers style or shooting a rocket at a tank. I think it is safe to say that just about everyone would love to be Tony Stark aka Iron Man.

  • I am surprised that Marvel was allowed to rip off classic mythology in order to create a superhero, but I am so pleased that they did. Thor is pretty much the most fierce and skilled warrior in all of the nine realms. I have recently finished reading Thor the God Butcher which I thought was possibly one of the best Thor stories ever. I also love the rivalry between Thor and Loki.

  • My favourite comic book villain. Victor Von Doom is the fifth unofficial member of the fantastic four. He always seeks to prove himself amongst his peers, mainly Reed Richards who challenges Doom's intellect. One of the things I love about the character is how he owns his own country, Latveria and so he is essential immune from the law and can do what he wants. He is also synonymous with referring to himself in the third person. As if all of this wasn't enough he inspired the creation of perhaps the most iconic pop culture villain Darth vader and is Stan Lee's favourite villain.

  • Although I prefer Doctor Doom I accept that Magneto is probably the better villain. This is because Magneto was a Jewish child during the height of Hitler's reign. He discovered what humanity was capable of and yet despite this went on to become exactly what took his loved one's away from him. He persecuted any humans who dared cross his path. It is this clever paradox that has made Magneto such an interesting character. He has also had fantastic portrayals on film by Ian McKellen and Michael Fassbender. He is ultimately the greatest X-men adversary because of his complex and ultimately evil nature.
