Rose Spolette was the daughter of the most notorious mob leader in Chicago when she met Antonio Berlotti, a sweet boy fresh off the boats from Italy. They fell madly in love but like all star crossed lovers throughout history, their love was destined for tragedy. Being only sixteen when they met and he was twenty one, her father clearly did not approve. He banned them from seeing each other but when they were found together on a secret tryst, he locked his daughter in her room and took Antonio out to a warehouse. Unknown to her father, Rose picked the lock on her room and ran off to the warehouse too. She watched in horror as her father and his men beat her lover to death. Then, from her hiding place, she watched as they dumped his body in a tank and filled it with cement. She ran home while they used the pullies in the warehouse to dump the body in the lake and hid back in her room, locking the door behind her.
About two months later, a dredging vessel pulled up the large concrete tank, it was cracked down the middle and the remains of a man's body were inside. This was passed onto the police, who passed it onto the FBI, to one agent in particular: Elliot Ness. He knew immediately what had happened but he knew proving it would be a hard if not impossible. Through the course of his investigations, he went to the Spolette household. He saw the quiet yet pretty girl in the background, he watched her as she kept darting glances at her. There was always a feeling that she wanted to tell him something.
Because of his gut instinct, he followed Rose to school one day and then waited for her at the gates. She seemed withdrawn, cut off and cold with the other girls. None of the other students would talk to her. At the end of the day, he approached her and they started to talk. She told him she remembered him but while she was cagey at first, eventually she opened up to him about what had happened. She told him everything. In the end, she agreed to give evidence against her father and his men, she felt it was absolution for their sins and her own. Ness immediately took the girl into protective custody.
