When will DC Civil War occur? It already happened...Kingdom Come.

Yeah i was thinking Kingdom Come as well and im sure that that was a huge influence on the Civil War storyline itself; but that was an "Elseworld" thing, so Im not sure if that counts? Dark knight Returns pit Batman vs Superman as well if you want to use any DC storyline - it kinda works. But I would go with Identity Crisis as DCs version of a kind of a Civil War (although in the new 52 maybe that is now an elseworld's thing now too????), it pit the League against themselves; those that mind wiped villains verses those who did not agree with that - and Batman was pretty pissed off at Zatana and the rest that he was mind wiped as well as Superman who must have known it happened but didn't do anything about it. So i could see that going into a bigger thing. i didn't read "Cry for Justice", but that was Green Arrow killing a villain, did anyone side with him? And the very first issues of Batman/Superman World's Finest were called "most wanted" or something like that, and that storyline had a Civil War feel to it (Hawkman and Shazam trying to bring them in, heroes talking sides).

A question for G-man if you want one: "What do you think of Marvel's treatment of Professor X lately (past few years)?" How they use him sparsely and not really a member of the X-men. More of a guest and Illuminati guy but not an X-Men leader. They did that whole coma thing. His poor treatment of Danger from the Danger Room getting him kicked out of the school back in Astonishing X-men. Would you like to see him return (i would). Does he have a presence in some X-men comic i might not be reading?

And personal opinion - since you mention the new Earth 2 JSA, it sucks! Flash's costume design alone left me hating the new 52 for ruining one of my favorite comic brands of all time. And truth be told, as much as i like some stuff James Robinson has done, my least favorite run on the old JSA by far was his final run, it was garbage leading up to the end and I cant believe they let him continue on... The whole Green Lantern city on the moon.... ugh..... I get they wanted some Kingdom Come reference or something there? but reboot this reboot please! Go classic for us! Or make an Earth 4 or something with a classic JSA on it. Ugh.

I agree with you that I LOVE word balloons on covers. Not every cover needs one mind you, many have been beautifully done with the "just art no words" aesthetic, and many of those covers have become cool posters etc.... (The Power Girl cover where she is just floating and relaxing in the sky comes to mind). But the fact that the big comic publishers won't even usually let cover artists or writers use them if they want to, (because they've deemed them silly or somehow passe or something?), is such a shame! I think its one of the biggest tragedies in the modern comic era. I remember reading or maybe hearing an interview with James Robinson where he talked about using a word balloon on a cover a few years back and how hard it was to get permission to do so.. I see at least one cover a month in my comic collection that really fails as a cover (being too abstract or boring etc) but could have been saved with a well done word balloon or comment. Its a shame and I hope it will come back someday?

My bad, i shouldn't have pointed any fingers, this isn't the place to do it, no one likes to get attacked. I feel mean. But it did happen, why would i lie? I could care less if someone thinks I have a Judd Winick story or not... You are less of a celebrity to me than the crew on Giantbomb are. I read one or two of your stories a month where as i watch them for hours a week! And im not making up stories about meeting Jeff in a back ally somewhere. So just beware some interns don't warm to you.
Its nothing to the degree of you splashed hot coffee in their face and stole their girlfriend or anything. Nothing evil. That's why i wish i hadn't brought it up. Just a general "they didn't know you very well but you made a bad impression" kinda thing.  And it was first hand from a really nice nerdy guy.

Ill erase what i said though, i feel mean.

I wont even bother to go see this at the theater unless these forums EXPLODE with, "no its actually really good!", not "its better than it looked", because it looks like crap. I am betting this will be my redbox or netflix pick some Friday night in the future.

"Yeah that's always bothered me, I try to ignore it though. Like matt Murdoch's been blind all these years why? I mean I'm sure let's say, Tony Stark could give him cybernetic implants. "

I always chalked it up there were things that capes shouldn't interfere with. Even heroes have boundaries they are not supposed to play with or cross, they need to let nature and time and humanity take its course; there are higher powers in their universe, they shouldn't play god and they know that. Like Flash could probably put out every fire in his cities, but then why have a fire department? He needs to let things happen for us regular humans sometimes. (plus then comics would be boring).

Like Avengers kind of recently explored that  concept with time travel; why not go fix everything before it starts if you can time travel? Time travel would break  the comic universe with that idea, and again it would be very boring :) But they say simply, if we go back and stop event 'A' from happening, then maybe we wouldn't have been strong enough from that experience for when event 'B' happened.
Like in Dragonball Z, if Goku doesn't fight Freeza first, then he wouldn't have been strong enough to fight Cell later. It all happened for a reason.
And with time travel you might just make something worse. Even Kang knew in this Avengers story line that if he killed the Avengers as babies, then sure he'd be rid of his enemies, but then maybe when he needed them to be there to save the world from Galactus or something else, they wouldn't be there.
Or Superman had a story line about that where he fought Atlan a prime wizard of Atlantis (aquamans father?). He came back saying that if Superman got too involved in saving the earth and didn't let things happen naturally then he was making humans weak and dependent, and also he was basically building up negative karmic energy on earth that was supposed to be released little by little, but he kept fixing everything so it was building up with no release until it would bring about a catastrophy. kind of a neat idea. So if Barbara hadn't been shot, and hadn't been Oracle, maybe the whole DC world would be worse? The DC Universe does have fate right?

Who is tougher than who? Comic geeks like us can argue and site examples left and right, but in the end, Superman is tougher than Hulk, and ive read comics where Hulk trashes Thor. And we've seen Hulk take on the whole Marvel universe. And Superman is vulnerable to magic, so maybe Thor is not is tough but just has magic on his side (like Captain Marvel "Shazam"). Heck Hercules and Thor are pretty even, yet in the DC Universe Wonder Woman can take Hercules.... So who's to say? The writer of that individual comic? Yeah, hulk and Supes both fluctuate incredibly depending on the writer. Id say Superman and Sentry were more even, and Sentry could take Thor probably. But that's just my 2 cents.

I think she was great in the wheelchair. Just like Professor X, i am not into his character as much anymore when he is walking around. It seems "dishonest" to me. And it brings up that whole "this world is so magical and full of powerful and smart people why are people still suffering from cancer and spinal injuries?" conundrum, if she gets cured than everyone should be "cured" right? Between Mr Terrific, Dr Fate, and the various Gods running around why is anyone still suffering from diabetes if you can travel time? So if the heroes can cure all of this then DC is officially a Utopia.I don't like that. There needs to be boundaries and conflict and drama.

Also, the DC universe NEEDS, needs, needs an information specialist person. They used to just call up to the JLA Watchtower and get info from whomever was on duty, but that monitor duty seems to have taken a major back seat. And that's good, why waste the super tough Martian Manhunter in your call center? Babs is better at it and it suits here. Heck Oracle is in the DC Universe Online game :) Plus I liked the whole "Oracle vs Calculator" thing going on.

I don't like it, i hope it will blow over. I typed this before i listened to the whoel segment, but they bring up every problem I have with this idea: Batman is only human, and Bruce coming out telling everyone this makes him too much of a target. And his whole staff is in danger of psychos now. And as Babs said, I like the spooky urban myth thing, the "Bat Family" is too 1960s happy for me. (even if they do it dark and in the shadows). I don't like Batman hanging out with people, he can do that with the league if he needed too. But he doesn't even totally trust the league (it was point of fact he keeps tabs o nall of them and made the OMAC project). And also i agree it makes it way to obvious of who Batman is.

Also 2 Batmans is STUPID. Ones gotta go! Who will go to JLA meetings?

EDIT: Also, waaay to many Batman books; Batman, Batman Streets of Gotham, Detctive, Batman and Robin, Bat Woman, Red robin, Gotham Sirens, Batman Inc, Batgirl, any team books like JLA or Outsiders he might be in, then all the mini series like Knight and Squire and Batman Widening Gyre... too many Batman books, you guys at DC are getting as bad as Marvel and Wolverine.

First off i had super high hopes for this movie, this should be my favorite movie ever. So realistically will it ever meet expectations? I doubt it. But also realistically it has bad actors in it. Sorry if you disagree, but they are not cast well. So the acting will be poor for this genre (as Jonah Hex and Spirit were as well). Plus some of the screen shots and trailer footage ive seen looks CHEAP in the effects dept, (many scenes look like they could be from a TV episode of Star Trek, or from youtube fan fiction trailers; and the screen shot of Carol in the jet and the parachute scene after both look awful). The CGI characters also do not look great, (new Star Wars movies come to mind, and that is not a good comparison). I think make up and real suits would have gone a long way here.... Shiny aliens is not what I wanted. But maybe they would be too hard to make, i dunno. Then again Babylon 5 is really old now effects wise and those aliens in make up could look great. Heck that guy that sat at Quarks bar in DS9 looked like a better kilowog. But at least they are finally making the movie. Hope I am pleasantly surprised.

" I'm concerned by Ryan Reynolds portrayal of Hal. Didn't really see Hal as being a funny man, I've always thought he was more serious than what they seem to be portraying in the movie."
Yup, i hate that they are going to make it funny (i think that's what they are going for), this movie was first proposed years ago from WB to DC with the idea of having "a Jack Black" like character as Green Lantern. (Think "The Mask"). DC said no. But I could see some of that still getting in.

Also, the CGI looks like crap, i have watched fan made youtube video trailers that have the Green Lanterns light look better. Maybe it will be better on screen, but that didn't look great. If DC messes this movie up, i am going to cancel 2 subscriptions in protest (speak with my money).
