What I would like to know if the overall sales are up or down compared to recent years?
Here's hoping that they're up, and that the industry as a whole is booming. Marvel having a bigger share of bigger pie doesn't really hurt anyone as long as the other peoples pieces are still bigger as well.
I totally disagree with the article in terms of the significance the suit carries, at least in terms of the MCU.
Logically, based off interviews we've gotten, the suit is going to be an amalgamation of the standard suit and the Iron Spider suits. This lines up with other rumours indicating that Spider-Man will be Iron Man's protege and that Tony will be designing his suit.
The attachment to Spidey's identity reveal will not make sense in this movie. The comic Civil War was about identity. The movie is about accountability. Spider-Man has no weight in regard to this. That means he really has no overall significance to the plot.
That means we have to look at his suit as just a suit. Nothing more or less.
Through that lens, giving him a suit at least partially different from the last five movies makes sense. It shows the audience that this is a new Spider-Man, with firm ties to the MCU and is different from those that came before. It immediately highlights the fact that this is a new Spidey, in a new universe, with clear MCU ties and it has new abilities we don't even know about, making Spider-Man exciting to an audience that was getting fatigued. Not to mention, it lets Disney make more toys.
The character will have two suits. A homemade one and a Stark designed one.
