HISTORY
On the planet Lazarine, home to the reptile people. many wonders were abound. The people there were happy and content, all because their greatest minds spent life times on ways to make life more pleasant. Each and every day new inventions where created that made life more enjoyable. All the people there lived life to the fullest. Except for Karisss Motar.
Karisss, was an underachiever, one that spent most of his life indulging in his own desires rather than care about any one else. He loved loose women and any way to make a fast buck. For a living he was a writer for a small underground Magazine called “Shedding.” Karisss would write a small and unpopular article under the title “SnapJaw” which was about wild unbelievable tales one would nominally find in a National Enquirer. But writing was the one and only thing Karisss took serious. It was the only thing he was good at. Every day he would ask his publisher to give him a real story and every day the publisher would laugh in his face. In fact every publisher on the planet only saw him as “Snap Jaw” a rumor mongrel.
Then one day life on Lazarine changed, for far off in the sky a small ominous black dot appeared. Immediately the people began to panic but cooler minds prevailed and research ships were launched in space to find answers. In the mean time reporters on Lazarine were having a field day. Karisss himself wrote an award winning article on the effects of the black dot, but his publisher threw it away and ordered him to write one on how the black dot was an angry God, bringing forth the end of the world. It was a flop piece but it was the type of crap he wrote.
Finally after a week of speculation the scientists returned with an explanation. The black dot was actually a Black hole that had just appeared in space. But the startling fact was, it was claimed to be a partially stable one. Meaning that the hole would disappear and reappear at specific time. Right now it would be open for one more week then close for a hundred years. Now for a Lazaron a hundred years was like one on Earth. Still the reptile people were excited. However for the safety of the people the planets leaders ordered all Lazarons to avoid the anomaly when traveling in space.
But Karisss saw the potential for Lazarine's greatest story....... what was on the other side of the Hole? Once again Karisss went to his publisher and, despite the risk to his own life, offered to fly threw the hole and stay there for the duration of one year. As always his publisher laughed in his face and kicked him out. But Karisss would not let it go. He knew how life changing his story could be and was determined to make it happen. After gathering up every last cent he owned, and could borrow, Karisss bribed an undesirable, he knew through work, and illegally acquired a rust buck of a space ship.
After a questionable launch he set the thruster at full max and headed the ship strait down the belly of the Black Hole. Immediately the ship was tossed around like a fly in a tornado, but somehow the ship managed to get through. Once on the other side Karisss found himself in our Universe heading towards Earth in a ship that now was being held together by a thread. The navigation systems was gone and the thrusters were gone, the ship was now nothing more than a flaming comet breaking through Earths gravity.
Karisss's ship crashed hard in an open field miles away from a small town. He himself, thanks to a genetic trait of his people, was healing up quickly from several life threating traumas. A broken leg, punctured lung, and even a broken spine was now being repair at an alarming rate. Finally after finishing his so called resurrection Karisss began to evaluate his situation. He knew what ever form of journalism this planet had would naturally be heading towards him, or more to the point is space wreck. Since there was nothing he could do about the wreckage he decided to abandon it.
It was at this point Karisss was beginning to think he made the wrong decision about this endeavor. He had no idea where he was or how he was going to get home, but Karisss held strong to the idea he was now in a position to write one incredible story. Suddenly Karisss picked up a scent quickly heading his way. Using another trait of his people Karisss activated his chameleon gene and vanished from sight. As he did a rather large man with a shot gun began snooping around the crash site. This was Karisss' first time seeing a human, or what he would refer to later as a soft shell.
Karisss began his observations of the human from a safe distance, as the man began poking and prodding through the wreckage. At the time Karisss had no idea what the man was doing, but the large man raised his shot gun and with a red neck yell fired two barrels directly into the wrecked ship. Unfortunately the mans rounds hit what was left of the ships fuel cells and upon contact created a huge explosion and surrounded him in flames. Karisss didn't know anything about human anatomy but he was certain that if the man was caught in explosion the results would not be good. In the blink of an eye Karisss slithered forth and grabbed the man seconds before burning to a complete crisp.
The man was in total agony, raising the question what to do with him. Karisss saw over the horizon the lights of a city and concluded that some one there would be able to help. With the man in his arms Karisss ran as fast as he could into the middle of the town looking for anyone, or anybody, that could give assistance. However he did not consider the soft shells reaction to seeing a seven foot tall lizard holding a chard man, standing in the middle their street. Pedestrians everywhere began screaming in fear as the officers of the law surrounded him with their weapons raised. Karisss desperately tried to explain the situation but without knowing the language all his words came out as aggressive snarling. In a non threating gesture Karisss laid the man on the ground and stepped back but a nervous rookie cop got anxious and open fired.
Soon all the policeman began unloading their weapons and Karisss was caught in the middle of a shoot out. The bullets themselves bounced of the hard scales that covered his skin, but the chaos of flashing light and screaming by standers terrified poor Karisss even more. He began panicking and thrashing around wildly which only made the situation worse. But then Karisss picked up a familiar scent, one much like his own, from underneath him. In a state of panic Karisss slammed his tail against the street hard enough to crack it wide open. He then leaped down the hole landing in the cities sewer system surrounded by scurrying lizards and as the police continued to fire Karisss slithered away with the other reptiles down the drain to a place of safety................. his new home.
For the next few months Karisss put his journalistic skills to the test. He spent every waking minute observing the soft shells. He studied their traits, their habits and of course their language. He was amazed how similar, as well as, how different their two cultures were. But what really sparked his interest was the reported stories of beings known as Heroes. Karisss did not know what his next several years on Earth would bring but he knew that his life was leading him in a new direction.
