@sirfizwhiz: none of those pluses makes up for the bad story and acting I see when I watch those films. For me the only good things that really came from those was Qui Gon and Maul.
Well some people like the Prequels better than the originals, and many more vice versa. I think Episodes 1, 2, and 4 all suck the big one. Episode 3, 5, and 6 being the only ones I care to re watch.
So everyone has different opinions. All of them, even the terrible ones, were great popcorn fliks that filled seats. I can think of many worse movies that came out the same year as Episodes 1 and 2 came out.
@sirfizwhiz: I bash on the prequel trilogy because I think is poorly written and acted.
There was great actors in it. Liam Nelson, Ian McDiarmid, Ewan McGregor, Frank Oz, and Samuel L. Jackson are top notch actors doing what they do best. I even like Natalie Portman as Padme over Liea.
I also think the fact the movies had original idea and not directly being like Episode 4 like Force Awakens does is a plus. granted the movie are not that good, Episodes 1 and 2 at least, though Episode three is agreed by many I know way better than Episode 4 or this new Episode 7.
Only reason people rip on the prequels is because of Jar jar from the first movie mostly. The films still had good things, and guess what? They made more money than the originals did in openings and re openings in theaters. If the TPM was so bad, why did AotCs and RotS made more money after that? They were entertaining films for fans outside of the SW elite fan base, thats why. They were more aimed at kids too, and they succeed in that demographic too.
So all this hate on the prequels is unneeded, especially when this New movie is not that much better, and less than RotS overall honestly.
Lets see. Was PM that bad? I dont think so. The action was way better than Episode 1, and the dueling was more awesome than Episode 4-6. Darth Maul was someone who is still a fan favorite from that oh so terrible movie. Qui Gon killed it in a good way as well. Padme was decent, and not as helpless as Leah honestly. The Space Battle was great. The Mass war was meh, but visually stunning. The backdrops were beautiful. I even like the trade disputs, as it added a level of politics which is how the Emperor rose to power. Yoda was also a puppet in that too, but people still bitch about the CGI, get the fudge over it everything is CGI and it looks great these days. Also the pd Racing was awesoe. If it wasnt then why so many bought pod Racing merchandise, and why was the game itself was such a huge hit? Herpy derp.
The only crap parts that were really bad was the jokes, and Jar Jar. Anikin as a kid wa pretty aweful too. I can see how the trade disputes are boring, but then I thought Episode 4 was Boring IMO, as well Empire Strikes back which has only the opening battle, and end Lightsaber fight going for it. Still great movies.
People hate on prequels becuase they are great summer flicks for the time, and not the overhype BS that the Originals are made out to be.
As for this movie, its getting praise, but many things I hear I dont like. I have no interest in these characters from the way they are describe, typical archtypes. Han is well pass his prime. The villian is weaker than Maul, Dooku, or Vader. The Lightsaber fights are meh. Sounds not that great to me. I will watch it with unbias eyes of course, Im sure the story and dialogue might be good. I will see if the hype for this movie is any more worth the hype for TPM that people bitch about.
