Plo Koon Respect Thread

Plo Koon is one of my favorite Jedi in the Rise of the Empire era but is a rather obscure one. So I would like to outline his feats here.

As with other EU respect threads, however, this will be different in that comics are not the only source material for Star Wars. To represent Koon's capabilities, I will be posting plenty of comic scans but also quoting sourcebooks. For those of you who are hazy on Star Wars knowledge, let me explain a few things first.
1. Just in case this needs to be said, EU is Expanded Universe. Basically, EU Star Wars is all information and material separate from the movies as well as the movies themselves. This includes TV shows, comics, novels, video games, etc.
2. The Star Wars canon classes will be brought up in this thread at least a few times. So, to follow the terms I use and just to clarify, in Star Wars continuity, there are five canon classes.

  • G-Canon- (George Lucas Canon). This is the highest canon class. It includes only the movies and material pertaining to them.
  • T-Canon- (Television Canon). This is the second highest canon class and includes any information provided in TV shows. This includes Star Wars The Clone Wars, as an example.
  • C-Canon- (Continuity Canon). This is the basic canon. This includes everything else that is confirmed to be in continuity, i.e., novels, comics, sourcebooks/handbooks, video games, etc.
  • S-Canon- (Secondary Canon). This is essentially any information that has yet to be confirmed as canon. It should only be mentioned in the context that there is a chance a given piece of information could be non-canon.
  • N-Canon- (Non Canon). Self-explanatory.
3. As I said above, I will be quoting books. I will have no scans of pages from novels and only a few from sourcebooks/handbooks. In general, I will take a section from a book, quote, and list what the source material is.
4. For those of you who may be skeptical about my using sourcebooks/handbooks as a legitimate source of information, understand that Star Wars source/handbooks have a much better level of credibility than Marvel handbooks, for instance. In comparison with the comic or novel that a certain section may be based on, Star Wars handbooks and sourcebooks tend to be extremely accurate and are often re-released every few years with updated information. Facts provided in sourcebooks are C-Canon.

Having gone through all that (hopefully it all makes sense), respect Koon.

Here, Plo uses a Mind Trick on twenty people to convince them to leave the Jedi Temple.
http://www.holonetnews.com/51/jediwatch/13411_1.html

JEDI TEMPLE, CORUSCANT - A mob of 20 university students attempted to infiltrate the Jedi Temple yesterday, managing to get as far as the Second Atrium Lobby before being handily contained by Jedi. Unharmed, the students shouted cries of "tyranny and oppression" and "free Baby Ludi" as they were delivered to Judicial holding pens.
At 0700 yesterday morning, a sociology tour group from the University of Coruscant entered the Temple's public lobby. They then unleashed pre-programmed graffiti-bombs with such messages as "Broodsnatchers!", "Baby Ludi Wants Her Mom," "Justice, Peace & Kidnappings" and logos of the People's Inquest movement in the polished interior.
Two younger Jedi Padawans attempted to contain the activists, but were unwilling to injure them with their brandished lightsabers. The unruly mob pushed into the Second Atrium when Jedi Masters Ki-Adi-Mundi and Plo Koon arrived.
"Disperse immediately," commanded Koon. "You are likely to injure yourselves if you continue, and we do not want that to happen."
"We will disperse immediately," repeated the crowd, uniformly, "We are likely to injure ourselves if we continue, and you do not want that to happen."
Jedi Padawans then affixed the students with handbinders, by which time Judicial officials arrived with a transport speeder. The students were loaded into the speeder, by which time the Jedi trance had worn off, and they again became agitated.

Electric Judgment
Electric Judgment is a light side Force ability with which a Jedi can summon Force Lightning without channeling darkness as a source.

Koon describes his usage of Electric Judgment in the Great Holocron, stating that he manifested the ability to save a young girl by rendering her assailant unconscious.

"At the request of the Jedi Council, I submit this report of my actions on the mission to Metellos, specifically my use of Force lightning.
I'd been tracking Dreed Pommel for five days across space before I found him on Metellos. Pommel had taken refuge in an executive suite within the floating city of Ektra. Despite my efforts at stealth, Pommel was somehow alerted to my approach, for when I entered the suite he was already clutching a female child and holding a blaster to her head.
The suite was spacious, and I was separated from Pommel by a distance of fifteen meters. Keeping his eyes on me, Pommel began pulling the crying girl—I estimated her to be five years old—out through a wide doorway, beyond which I could see a small ship that rested on the suite's private landing pad. Obviously, his intent was to escape, and he considered the child his insurance. I had no reason to doubt that he would ultimately kill her, even if I allowed them to board the escape vessel, for I could see what he'd done to the girl's parents and two siblings, whose bodies lay upon the floor of the inner suite.
In hindsight, there were many possible tactics I might have employed to apprehend Pommel and rescue the child, but I did not consider any options or calculate angles of attack as I watched him drag her toward the ship. I believe I acted entirely instinctively when I extended by right arm and released a barrage of lightning.
I know that the Jedi Council was hesitant to send me on any assignment so soon after the death of Master Tyvokka, but I did not let loose with Force lightning the way undisciplined beings might release stress. Like other Jedi, I learned of Force lightning at the Jedi Temple, and I am well aware that it is regarded as a dark side power. I never had any special interest in Force lightning, or felt compelled to experiment with it, but I knew it was—at least in me—an innate ability. I did not feel anger as I directed the lightning at Pommel's head, nor did I fear for the girl's safety. I was calm and in control of my faculties. I merely acted to end the situation before any more innocents died.
Upon being struck by the first bolt, Pommel reacted as anticipated as the shock seized his system. His arms flew out and away from his body, releasing both the blaster and the child, who fell to the landing pad. A second bolt ensured that Pommel would remain unconscious until the local authorities arrived. I was never tempted to deal a killing blow.
Upon my return from Metellos, my use of Force lightning was included in my report to the Council. I maintained that I did not embrace the dark side when I used this ability, and that I acted by the will of the Force.
I appreciate the Council's concern with my report. I have not forgotten that it was Master Tyvokka's last wish that I join the Council. I also acknowledge the Council's observation that the Force is strong in my family. My uncle was a Jedi Knight, as is my niece Sha Koon. While Kel Dors like ourselves have a reputation for seeing moral issues in black and white, I urge the Council to disregard my family in this situation, for I alone am responsible for my actions.
The Council asked me to contemplate whether I would use Force lightning again, and whether I was wrong to use it on Metellos. After much meditation, I believe it would be wrong of me to ignore this power that I might develop into a useful technique for combat. As for whether I was wrong to use it, I believe the only person who can rightfully answer that question is a five-year-old girl. Her name is Claria Labreezle, and she has been placed with relatives at Stratablock 7 on Metellos.
May the Force be with us all."

Dueling

Plo Koon vs Asajj Ventress Round 2. Koon and Ventress engage one another in a more protracted duel. Plo fights single-handed, as his left arm is fractured, and the two fight relatively evenly until Koon knocks away one of Ventress' lightsabers, at which point she also fights single-handed and begins to gain an advantage. Plo ends the duel by telekinetically pushing Ventress' remote off the bridge ledge prompting her to chase after it; when reinforcements meet her, she escapes, resulting in no decisive victor.

Intelligence

Koon's knowledge affords him the necessary skills to inscribe recordings in holocrons. In the Great Holocron, he describes Electric Judgment.
