Interest in artists

Comicvine has always had a special place in my heart because my confidence in my written word and creative mind has grown a lot on this site from those who have showed me love.  I am sorry if some feel I have betrayed the vine with me more focused on my personal projects, sorry guys, I still have mad love.  The more I want to self-publish the more I am thinking of new books to write.  So far two major graphic novels I want to do.  One has an artist the other does not, but I am not here to talk about the graphic novels.  The things I am here to talk about is a poetry book I want as my first self-published work.  I am not a rich man, I cannot offer money in exchange for art, I was wondering if anyone would like to consider donating their time and art for certain poems, one I select them and script them.  This comic came to me with Foxy Roxy posting songs from Alan Moore's Songbook.  I love Alan Moore and I think this is a cheap and easy way to get comfortable with self-publishing.

If any artist is interested in this "poetry" book let me know.  If you are wondering, will plan a small print run and those who contribute will be given a copy, since they were involved.  This is a chance for any young artist to say they worked with Silkcuts and I hope I am fun to work with.

Cheers.

Freestyle for 08/08/2011

Its been too long since I polished me verbal sword.
Time to get sharp why not when I am bored?
I know I have stepped away from the vine,
forgive me all, I have not found the time.
My muse never sleeps and I am writing up storms,
creating stories and poetry in any shapes and forms.
I noticed the date is a double 8,
had to return to the infinite debate.
The universes speaks to me in patterns,
an 8 in month and day dates endless like rings of Saturn.
No longer does it seem I command the review,
even with the vine trying to silence me my words are true.
Like Alan Moore not all understand me,
Guys like Turok and Liberty being a community stars come in handy.
For even if my ripple is slight,
my message comes to you all in a bottle at night.
The Comicvine's local Magick Man,
making the impossible happen in ways only I can.

Hail to the "Baron of Reviews" (Aztek) and read his Review!

Hail to the Baron of Reviews  ( Aztek) and read his Review! ( Here)

Aztek just finished reading the series I call "The greatest achievement in comics" and his review is his overall opinion on the series.  If you haven't read Promethea, then may be the discussion him and I had will help make up your mind if you should read or don't read it.

The link again is ( HERE)

Here is a shout out to my friends at Stadium Comics!

Here is a shout out to my friends at Stadium Comics!  Found a YouTube video made from their most recent Free Comic Book Day and wanted to share why they are awesome.  I tried to find me in the background, but I couldn't.  I was wearing the 2011 FCBD shirt and had signatures on the back.... that last part was a not important story, but seriously Stadium is a great shop.

Comics and Magick verses comics as entertainment.

I think I finally figured out why I don't always see eye to eye with the mainstream masses.  It has to do with view point on the medium.  Many see comics as a form of entertainment and that is why some people are okay with the direction of comics reverting back to the status of "funny books".  Then the more someone appreciates the medium, the more they see the potential of storytelling within this unique and special medium.  Some can be great silent storytellers like Jeff Lemire, who in works like Essex County and Lost Dogs say so much within the panels without really writing a word to read.  Some compose masterful structure such as Alan Moore in works like Big Numbers, V for Vendetta, Lost Girls and Promethea.  The medium means different to different people and that is a given, but my problem is that there once was a thread of sophistication, the fan-base understood where the medium was evolving and that is why after Alan Moore, so many masterful writers were inspired and pushed the medium forward. Odds are your favorite writer knows what I am talking about because Alan Moore opened my mind.

Somewhere down the line the market changed and the readers no longer want "Graphic Novels" like the epic of Grant Morrison's Batman, the masses wanted fluff and easy to digest pretty storyboards.  This is where comics are de-evolving, the comics are intended to be purely entertainment rather then partly "art", since most readers either can't or don't want to decode the collection of information of semiotics known as the graphic medium.

Consensus is that Alan Moore is considered the greatest, if not greatest he is the most influential writer in comics.  Grant Morrison would be a strong and solid number 2.  There is something besides being male and part of the U.K. that makes them masters of the medium.  Both see the correlation of Comics and Magick.  Maybe this is where I differ from some of comicvine and why I love both their work so much and feel I understand it.  From the many things I have written for this site, most were for personal reasons to explore this phenomenon of Magick and comics.  This is why John Constantine is my favorite character, he is the purest form of magick in comics, I mentioned it in my Crisis #4 review as well as my BD #24 review, John Constantine lives synchronicity, I would also like to point-out the metaphysics Peter Milligan can do with John in my review of issue HB #273.   Metaphysics is another amazing thing that can be done in "comics".

Issues #273 was Six months ago and Aztek can confirm I mentioned that it looks like Peter Milligan is explaining multiple Johns (in John's own history) months ago.  Without my knowning, I knew John would return to the DCU.  Synchronicity is shared between me and John, there is magick in the pages of comics if you want to find it.  In recent news I have debated on giving up on trying to "teach" because there are some who choose to argue then listen.  I am not perfect and I am not always right, but when it comics to John Constantine I am, when it comics to the medium I also feel I understand it better then most and that is why I try to "teach".  This is where I know Flashpoint and the reboot will fail.  It is driven by the wrong motives of money making and not storytelling.  The karma is negative and stacked against them if they continue, especially if John is in use because he really is "living" and is the messiah archetype I speak of.  His profile may increase because of the perversion of the abuse of Vertigo characters, but i fear that John Constantine will kill the DCU.  He was Key to Alan Moore Twilight of the Superheroes and DC can like it or not Alan Moore built the infrastructure for their universe. John Constantine is also Alan Moore greatest creation.  More "coincidences".....

I also once told Aztek that their is a thin line between sanity and insanity and only those who walk between the two can truly state what side they are on.  Guys like Alan Moore and Grant Morrison are no longer mere mortals, they talk to the Gods and are on a different world then you or I.  Hopefully I can join the discussion with the Gods.  I hear the mumbles already.

Blogger, Reviewer and now rapper?

Hi everyone and thank you for checking out my blog.  I may not be the most well-known blogger here, but my blogs normally broke the Vertigo Bad news to guys like Aztek.  Not all of my blogs were about Vertigo,  I wrote about overrated and underrated writers and artist.  I spearheaded Project 500.  I enjoy supplying new on Toronto events and other things I am passionate about such as attacking Didiot for many many months.  My good buddy Turok lead me to the CV Rap Battle thread and for fun I have been on that thread a little.  So this blog will highlight some of the verses I laid down.  Be honest, should I end my rap career before it starts?  Babs is the Queen of rappers on CV, but am I fit to be the Prince and stand close enough to her?

(Intro CV rap battle verse)

@turoksonofstone: This is just for fun... Toe to toe, your my friend not foe.

You play Hide and seek with the light,
but truth in Lucifer is Bright.
You may be Mr. Public Domain,
but I am the one bringing the pain.
I want to step away from the game,
but you call the name...
Silkcuts... its like summoning a demon.
Yeah, me man. My words are like semen,
and minds are like eggs.
They can be cracked and fried or simply fertilized.
Sometimes its hard to read between the lines,
but one thing is for sure, I am too crazy to analyze.
Gotta admit I have ANAL-Eyes,
I can rip anything apart with my verbal sodomize.
I guess that is why I am know as the "Prince of Reviews",
if I like something or not its a good as the News.

Peace.

(Rap 2)

I'm half man half amazing, like Vince Carter in his Prime.
I can dunk on any open comer with my verbal rhyme.
The only difference is I ain't selling out T.O this time.
Yeah, that is a shot to the cry baby cousins.
T-Mac and Vince Carter, don't know who cried hard.
You can give the babies their bottles,
spoiled little brats leaving your town full-throttle.

Rewind... why I am wasting my time on them.
I should be spitting truths for ya'll to say Amen.
So lets go to the church of Silk,
refresh your soul in my words like cold milk.
I can talk a smooth game that is guaranteed some play.
When I speak water stops flowing to hear what I say,
I'm "Simply Irresistible Lovable Kevin",
You can give me to the count of 7,
I'll make any girl think they are in Heaven.
It don't matter how big the last man Hung,
No girl ever forgot my Tongue.
That is how I stay young bathing in the fountain of youth,
Any Girl would come  if she was alone with me in a booth.
The lady's "V" is for Victory and Victory is mine.
Why because my word is like Wine.
Now I am off to Shine.

"Lucifer, dawn of de morning! I'm gonna, chase you out of Earth
Lucifer Lucifer, dawn of de morning...."

(Rap 3)

 @turoksonofstone:  ^_^

My name is already written in history,
I'll be remembered even if dead.

You think you're the only one with truths?
I know why Jesus really bleed.

Gotta admit I didn't see it coming with "Free Lindsay Lohan",
But when I speak people hide like its the Summer of Sam.
I'm perversions of the innocent like Green Eggs and Ham.

Safety Fangs or not, I can cut right back.
Smooth like Silk on any God given track.

Haven't slept in 24 hours and I am still wide awake.
Haters can hate, but I ain't no fake.
I got work in a few hours so I'm back on the grind.
No rest for the wicked,
"If you search you shall find".

(Rap 4)

 @turoksonofstone: @god_spawn: @Trodorne: @Caligula: @Hawk

This is getting fun
^_^

My words are smooth like SILK,
But they "Cut" like a blade.
Anyone to step to me is sure to be "Slade".
I'm a Deathstroke with my Free "Wil.....Son".
Anytime hold comicvine on Ransom,
Its not my fault I was born Handsome,
Helter Skelter crazy like Manson.
I was a None voted Star, because my reach is far.
My constructs are like Kyle Ranyer,
I'm a dash of Spanish flavor.
An Honor guard cause I'm hard,
Don't forget the Torchbearer.
Am I on?
Hell I'm pure "Will" like ION.
A Savage Hawkman has nothing on me,
The Prince of Reviews for the world to see.
Heavy is the head that wears the crown,
That is why I took it off and laid it on the ground.
Doing my own thing like the Green Hornet's Sting.
I'm fine as the Prince instead of the king.
No one can't say I'm not humble.
Any rhyme back to this is sure to sound like a mumble.
To Comeback would be no Use.
Your the "Dick" and I'm the Bruce.

"Deuces"

That was the fun I have been having while wanting to be creative, but not wanting to review or blog about anything that goes against the grain.

My heart is breaking....

The famous second page from Murder, Morphine and Me.
The famous second page from Murder, Morphine and Me.
My heart is breaking.... Breaking because I know that in  the great big picture of life, trends are that mobius strip of highs and lows in a constant tread of history repeating itself.  The 80s was likely the climax since many of the top creators were taking back the medium that was hurt by the Comic Code Authority. Most readers today would never have read Jack Coles' Murder, Morphine and Me, which was originally printed in True Crime and later reprinted in Jack Cole and Plastic Man: Forms stretched to their limits.  Comics tried breaking away and growing, people like Cole were pushing the medium forward.... then a halt with the focus to make comics for kids.  Then Alan Moore to take back the medium, make it for older people as well.  He came along to show guys like me that comics are a form of magick.  A method of communication that is like no other.  A disease of language if you will. Some writers got what Moore was doing and we have writers like Grant Morrison and Warren Ellis.... then there are writers that got inspired and missed the point, like Geoff Johns, who mined old Moore GL stories to reboot Hal Jordan... who was a murderer.... But it is Geoff Johns who controls the masses of comic book readers because many readers now are newer, younger or just read within of their comfort zone.  Part of the reason the industry has been dying was the 90s boom and the fact most people would rather watch a movie.  A theme of laziness is what holds the limitation of understanding the mediums potential.

Many people can say they love comics, but to "Love" something you want to dive into it.  Submerse and bath in it.  Many people like comics, I'll give them that.  But not many love comics.  I can say I love comics because I'll read any comic and admire the magick on the page, even if a comic is bad I can see the good in it.  Comics can be a perfect balance of semiotics, with the dance of pictures to letters and that alone makes the medium special.  The problem is that semiotics are lost in translation and that is why the mainstream tends to reach a boiling point of maturity, then those fans grow-up, leave and new fans join who just don't get it when they start reading.  The mobius strip must now hit its low.....  This low is what saddens me most.... Mature, stylistic and sophisticated work does not sell anymore and the industry is dying because of it.  Comics have returned to its status as "Funny books".

G-Man wrote an Off My Mind: Will the DC Universe Be Rebooted Again After Flashpoint? Where I foolishly tried to strike up mature conversation.  I am not trying to pick on the said gentleman, no beef with him so in respect I censored names.  But I commented:

@[Name censored as well]

They need to change something but not rebooting the whole DC Universe.

exactly!
As long as DC is ran by Didio, Jim Lee and Johns they will try as much stunts to attract more readers.  Comics have gone away from the quality I once believed the mainstream was going to, now only few comics really have substance.  We can blame whoever we want, but the real problem is that the industry does not have the foundation it is suppose too.  Less people read comics now and those who do read vary in their ability to enjoy the medium in its maximum potential. I know this too be true when I can only read the Grant Morrison Batman stuff and supply incite no other reviewer on the comicvine really does... or few at least.  Then there are those who read all the Batbooks and need others to explain the layers.

Comics are more then just pictures and words or just pretty storyboards.  Comics is a language of its own and like any language there are levels of depths of comprehension. DC seems to want to reboot since they know most readers are like Dan Didiot, who has a shallow understanding of the potential of comics.  Most people will not read something like Alan Moore's Tomorrow stories and if they do would they understand how it pushed the medium once again?

The change must be in readers and the industry.

He later replied in private:

 Do you want some Cheese?

And that is why I have such a negative relationship with the mainstream.  My Brightest Day #24 review for example, it supplies incite that the mainstream wouldn't know and since I love comics, it can be seen in the review.  I don't even care for the mainstream as much as most and that review is an example of how differently one can read a comic if their mind understands the medium to its maximum potential.   Two people did not recommend it and I wonder why?  Is it because it rocks the boat, DC is not making all the right moves?  Unlike [Name censored] I would love to call out those two who has problems with me, since they wouldn't even comment on the review itself.  Mediocrity breeds more Mediocrity and you can take that to the bank.  Certain people can hate, but one thing I know to be true, those haters have nothing on me.

All I ever really wanted to do on comicvine was inspire and at times I feel I have failed there.  I know I have succeeded in a few things, such as inspiring reviewers like Dark Noldor who's verity of books he reads has grown and now he has over taken me as #2 on CV's reviewer list, congrats friend.  I succeed by validating my opinion with the crown jewels of my body of works.  I have also succeeded on promoting my favorite character in John Constantine.  All those things are great, but their is that void in my heart... the part that breaks for the average reader.  Comics are so much more... and all I wanted most is to inspire.

Ever since my anni I have felt lost on CV.  I've been pushed away from the mainstream, which means I pulled myself away from most of you.  Sorry....  There will be the few books I monthly review (like Hellblazer and Morrison's Batman), but most of my focus will be simply other and that is if I choose to fight to even keep #3, since at her pace RazzaTazz will over take me by the end of summer, #4 is the number of death after all... Maybe I'll retire after that.  I feel my focus is leading me to writing my own graphic novel, only after being published, even if self-published can I complete my love for the medium.  That final piece may silence the void.

Cheers, your friend if you want my friendship
