@silver2467: Well, for one, based on trends seen throughout fights in SW continuity, small gaps in most areas like Force power, physical attributes, etc. (pretty much anything save for skill) tend to be negligible, and I feel I placed too much emphasis on the speed affair (which is highly unlikely to have any relevance in a contest like this, since both practitioners excel at Force Speed anyway).
On that note, the whole "Sidious can blitz Maul etc. because he moves faster than they can see" isn't something I believe in, either. It's something of a gaping hole to accept that logic when Obi-Wan managed to deflect blows from Grievous, who in the same source moved faster than Obi-Wan could even think. Jedi also seem to enter a state of increased awareness and perceptions when they actually enter combat, and a number of examples where Sidious moves faster than somebody can perceive seem to take place before the Jedi was combat-ready.
I also don't exactly believe in a noticeable power disparity, either. The point about Sidious constantly growing in power is noteworthy, as is the fact that his power-up didn't come until after Plagueis' termination (this blog addresses Sidious beforehand, of course), but all the same, I feel Sidious has established enough (and is presented by sources) to be considered a rival of Plagueis' in the Force department - at least to a degree sufficient to render Force power impartial towards either combatant, IMO.
@silver2467: True, all good points. I don't exactly think in the same way I did when I wrote this blog, though, so I kind of want to keep this dead for a while.
I believe the junior novelization offers insights into the fight that the main novel doesn't, so I do believe it's of considerable value in determining the underlying elements of this fight myself.
@sdrichzformae: If we want to be technical, there is a definition for "predicting" which defines it as "saying what will happen", and she was just saying what will happen if the Exile or herself dueled an ancient Sith.
If you want to go with the "future" idea, it's plausible she's making reference to KotOR III, which has some involvement with the ancient Sith (since they still exist in spirit form, and there could be other ancient Sith or ancient Sith descendants still alive).
@sdrichzformae: She predicts that the Exile and Kreia can't compare to the ancient Sith as swordsmen (and therefore that they would fall to the ancient Sith in combat fairly easily), and Avellone is confirming that.
And the Star Wars Expanded Universe is now listed as the Legends timeline, which is basically a different timeline, completely apart from canon (probably comparable to something like Marvel's Ultimate universe).
