Nejaa Halcyon Respect Thread

Respect Nejaa Halcyon:

“Of our Order, Nejaa Halcyon, a true Master you are.”
“Of our Order, Nejaa Halcyon, a true Master you are.”

Combat Skill

Nejaa Halcyon spars evenly with Anakin Skywalker for an hour:

Moving with total focus and concentration, Halcyon was a pleasure to watch. Loath to interrupt him, Anakin remained on the side, waiting for him to pause.

At last Halcyon thumbed his lightsaber off and stood erect. He glanced over at Anakin and grinned.

“Anakin Skywalker! Looking for a sparring partner?”

Anakin started briefly. “You honor me,” he said with a slight bow.

Halcyon laughed. “Honor you? That means either you’re surprised I remember your name, or you’re surprised that a Jedi Master is so readily willing to spar with a Padawan he barely knows.”

“Perhaps both?” Anakin grinned back at the older man.

“Of course I remember your name. There are so few Jedi here these days, it’s easy to remember everyone. And of course I’m happy to spar with you. You’re freshly out of combat, your reactions are sharp. I’ve been sitting idle for quite a while—I need the test.” He gestured an invitation, and Anakin entered the sparring circle.

They faced each other and saluted, then took position and thumbed their lightsabers to life.

Anakin made the first move, a thrust that started high before plunging downward to dip under an anticipated high parry. The blades of the lightsabers sizzled as Halcyon easily deflected the thrust, laughing when he danced aside.

“You surprise me,” Halcyon said mock-seriously.

“That’s such a basic move. I’d have thought you’d have some new ones from being in combat.” He launched a flurry of thrusts and slices of his own; Anakin easily parried or deflected all of them.

“Master Halcyon,” Anakin said when they stepped back, “in a fight, one seldom has time to invent new maneuvers. The tried-and-true movements are usually the most effective.” He reached out with his lightsaber to touch Halcyon’s, then spun the tip of the blade in an unorthodox backhand that would have cut through Halcyon’s left shoulder had he not stopped short—and had Halcyon failed to fall back out of the way in time.

“Very good, Padawan.” Halcyon nodded with approval. “That was so close I’m not sure whether or not it counts as a touch.”

Anakin grinned. “You don’t have time to invent in a fight—but sometimes you have to improvise.”

Then they settled into serious sparring.

The two Jedis’ lightsabers flashed and sizzled when the blades struck in thrust and parry. When first one, then the other found his way through the other’s defense, the shimmering light stopped just short of striking. The two Jedis’ voices rang with pleasure at each skillful move.

After an hour of sparring, they stopped by unspoken mutual agreement. Both gleamed with sweat. Both were laughing.

“Ah, yes,” Halcyon said happily, “a sparring partner makes the workouts much, much better.” He eyed Anakin. “You’re very skillful for someone so young.”

Anakin’s eyes sparkled. “Master Halcyon, I must compliment you on your skill, which is remarkable for such an old man who has been sitting idle for so long.”

“Ungrateful pup!” Halcyon snarled, and immediately laughed. “Shall we do it again tomorrow?”

“Sounds great.”

“Same time, same place.”

“With pleasure.”

Jedi Master and Padawan saluted each other before heading their separate ways to bathe the sweat and salts from their tired bodies.

Nejaa spars again with Anakin, and though the fight is close, Anakin wins. They then continue to spar with each other over the coming days, both improving and surprising each other with new moves and tricks:

Nejaa Halcyon was doing stretching exercises when Anakin Skywalker walked into the training area.

“I hope you’re ready for a workout,” Halcyon said in greeting.

“After the workout I’ve been giving my brain, I’m more than ready for a physical workout, Master Halcyon,” Anakin replied. “I feel the need to take it out on somebody.”

Halcyon laughed and gave a last stretch before drawing his lightsaber from his belt. “Before you try to take anything out on anybody, you’d better loosen up, or you’re going to be in too much pain to defend yourself.” He grinned. “Or maybe that’s what you want, to be too uncomfortable tomorrow to go back to the library.”

“I did my stretching on the way here,” Anakin said as he put his cloak aside and drew his lightsaber.

Halcyon sparred better than he had the first day, but so did Anakin. In the end, the Jedi Master bowed to the Padawan.

“You do very well. I need a sparring partner even more than I’d realized.” He shook his head sadly.

“Who would have believed that a mere Padawan could best me with a lightsaber?” Then he smiled.

“Shall we do it again tomorrow?”

“I look forward to it even more than I looked forward to today,” Anakin answered with a broad grin.

They sparred again the next day, and the next, and the day after that. Each day, each improved, and each surprised the other with new moves and tricks.

After the first few days they didn’t immediately part company when their sparring was over, but sat and talked. The next day they talked for a longer time. And the day after that, they dined together.

Halcyon fights closely with Grudo without using the Force in a conspicuous manner, managing to land blows on Grudo and springing back up every time he gets knocked down:

“Halcyon seemed unwilling to use Jedi tricks”— Anakin assumed he meant the Force—“and fought like an ordinary warrior. So I used his momentum against him. Many times I flipped him to land jarringly on the hard ground. But Halcyon sprang back up every time and came right back at me.” He hooted a soft laugh. “He was fast enough to get through a few times, and he hit hard enough to bruise—including a couple of bone bruises.”

Covered in perspiration, his clothes torn in many places where Grudo had grabbed him to throw, Halcyon had pressed home his advantage of speed and dexterity while the Rodian, hurting from the many blows the Jedi Master had rained upon him, managed to keep out of Halcyon’s grasp. Each time one or the other struck a blow or made a throw, Scarlet Thranta’s crew sent up a roar of approval. Soon the ground the two fought on had been churned into a morass. Both contestants had lost any sense of time, and as the fight dragged on they began to stumble and miss opportunities as physical exhaustion began to take its toll.

Force Valor/Protection/Speed

Force Valor is a light-sided power enabling a Jedi to enhance one's resolve and physical traits, such as strength, durability and speed. Force Protection is the passive (and sometimes active) enhancement of a Force sensitive's durability to varying superhuman degrees. Force Speed is the passive (and sometimes active) enhancement of a Force sensitive's speed to varying superhuman degrees.

Halcyon forms a whirl of energy out of his blade, easily deflecting blaster fire from three droids, and then destroying them before his companions could even point their blasters. He then proceeds to disposing of another three droids, and proceeds to turn an entire compartment into a junkyard within six seconds:

They came upon the battle droids just as three of them entered the crew’s compartment. Halcyon didn’t hesitate. His lightsaber flashed in a whirl of energy, easily deflecting the bolts from the droids’ laser rifles.

He slashed into them, one-two-three, and the machines disintegrated before his companions could point their blasters at the intruders. Halcyon stood flat against the bulkhead and, as the next three battle droids came through the hatch, disposed of them in turn. In six seconds he had turned the compartment into a junkyard.

Grudo praises Halcyon's speed:

“Halcyon seemed unwilling to use Jedi tricks”— Anakin assumed he meant the Force—“and fought like an ordinary warrior. So I used his momentum against him. Many times I flipped him to land jarringly on the hard ground. Halcyon destroys a compartment full of droids in seconds after deflecting fire from all the droids:

Halcyon went through the hatch. The compartment was full of battle droids, all of which opened fire at the same time. Halcyon parried the blaster bolts with his lightsaber. Most of the bolts arced back onto the droids that had fired them. Halcyon pressed forward. The two guards followed him. In seconds the repair shop was a shambles, but the droids in it were all destroyed.

Force Sense

Force Sense is a basic power allowing Force sensitives to sense their surroundings via a sixth sense of sorts. A broader, passive iteration of that power also affords a Jedi passive precognition and clairvoyance.

Nejaa Halcyon Senses a disturbance in the Force, knowing that it is caused by Anakin:

He knew the disturbance in the Force he was experiencing was a result of Anakin’s tapping into it. He knew Anakin was still alive. But there was something troubling—

Telekinesis

Telekinesis is a basic Force power enabling Force users to alter and manipulate objects and beings around them with the power of their mind. As a descendant of the Halcyon family, Nejaa Halcyon was born with a natural telekinetic deficiency, requiring the absorption of energy to obtain noticeable telekinetic abilities.

Although nearly dead, Halcyon manages to absorb a lightsaber blade, granting him telekinetic powers sufficient to Crush every bone in the Dark Jedi Nikkos Tyris's body and then hurl him through into a dome and support, killing him:

I sucked the energy out of the Anzati's lightsaber and forced myself to smile as I did so. I tasted blood in my mouth, but that fact elicited no panic. It was inconsequential. More telling was the look of surprise on Tyris' face as his blue blade flickered once, then twice, then went out. I'd drained it of every last joule and let him read in my eyes that he should suddenly be very afraid.

With the energy I'd pulled in I plucked him from the ground in a giant invisible fist. He screamed, I think; at least his mouth worked as if he was screaming. I made the fist convulse once and I felt no resistance as his bones shattered. I let him hang limp in the air for a moment, then hurled him back through the tents to slam him against the dome and a support. I felt a jolt through the Force and saw a blue flash of light, but by then my energy reserves had faded.

Tutaminis

Tutaminis, or Force Absorption, is a Force Power that enables a Jedi to absorb energy in various forms. Being descended from the Halcyon line, Nejaa had a gift for utilizing Tutaminis.

Halcyon can absorb energy, a rare ability among Jedi:

"He also could absorb energy. I was told this was a very rare ability among Jedi."

Nearly dead, Nejaa Halcyon manages to absorb Nikkos Tyris's lightsaber blade with his bare hands in order to grant himself telekinetic powers, crushing every single bone in Tyris's body and hurling him through tents into a dome and support:

Crucitorn

Crucitorn is a Jedi technique allowing one to transcend the sensations of physical pain.

After being stabbed with a lightsaber and nearly dead, Nejaa Halcyon switches off his pain receptors and manages to feel no physical pain or agony, with only mental clarity and purpose left behind:

He stabbed his blade down through my chest. The azure blade melted flesh and boiled blood as it went, reducing my heart to sweet smoke and steam. On further it stabbed, exploding arteries and burning through my spine. The lower part of my body went numb, though I barely noticed because of the wave of agony surging up through me and into my brain. It threatened to overwhelm me, letting darkness nibble into my sight. I was dying and I knew it and regrets poured in with the pain.

But I was not dead yet.

I was a Halcyon. I was a Jedi.

Jedi do not know pain.

In an instant all physical agony ceased as effectively as if I'd flicked a switch and turned all my pain receptors off. All I was left with was an incredible clarity of mind and a singleness of purpose. I'd dedicated my life to the service of others, to the service of the Force. I would not go out without my duty being fulfilled. I concentrated and employed the greatest Halcyon gift against my enemy.

Telepathy/Illusion

Telepathy is the ability to read, manipulate or communicate with another's thoughts. Force Illusion is a Force ability stemming from a myriad of mental abilities allowing one to project images and illusions into another being(s)'s mind(s).

Nejaa Halcyon was an expert in mental projection and Illusions:

My grandfather smiled. "The Halcyons have their strengths. The mental projection you allude to was something Nejaa did very well. He also could absorb energy. I was told this was a very rare ability among Jedi."
