Wolverine, GI Joe: Movies in 08/09 almost guaranteed to suck

" />http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/movies/la-et-filmstrike24oct24,0,6662088.story?coll=la-home-center

"Just last week, guild members voted overwhelmingly to authorize a strike if a new contract couldn't be worked out with the >studios and networks. All over town, executives, agents, producers and writers are nervously girding for what might be the >biggest labor confrontation in 20 years. Depending on how negotiations go, the strike could come as early as Nov. 1, >although the guild could always choose to continue negotiating under the existing contract. Nevertheless, almost everyone >in town is gripped by a sense of foreboding, as it remains unclear how the talks between the guild and the studios will pan >out. "Everybody is living in the impending doom," Goldsman said."

"Given what's at stake and the [time] we have left, our writers on every project are working under inhuman amounts of >pressure," said Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who is producing "G.I. Joe," Paramount Pictures' would-be tent-pole movie for >summer 2009, which as of last week hadn't even been officially greenlighted.

In September, the "G.I. Joe" team hired "Collateral" scribe Stuart Beattie to begin a total overhaul of the script. Beattie >turned in his first draft by the beginning of October and is now busily working on a second set of revisions, which are due >back to Paramount on Oct. 31.

"Just last week, 20th Century Fox issued an announcement that the studio was laying claim to May 1, 2009, as the release >date for its big-budget sci-fi spinoff "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" starring Hugh Jackman. This was just days after it issued >an urgent SOS to the major agencies looking for a quick rewrite person. Another 2009 movie recently looking for polishes >was "Four Christmases," the Vince Vaughn-Reese Witherspoon holiday yarn. The studios pay top "script doctors" $250,000 to >$300,000 per week to polish screenplays."

I guess this means you can kiss goodbye any hopes for depth, plot, and intrigue in the Wolverine and GI Joe movies. Though with Lorenzo "Bat nipples" Di Bonerventura on board, the man whose Hollywood wet dream was realized when the giant robot spider in Wild Wild West made the big screen, there wasn't much hope for the Joes to begin with. The last work stoppage brought such gems as Dukes of Hazzard, Herbie Fully Loaded, Aeon Flux and a couple dozen other horrible scripts that had been collecting dust on desks in development hell. So looks like 08/09 will be a repeat of the crapfest of summer 05, though there's probably an upside to all this i'm sure.

The big question is if those movies are crap will they do what the Batman & Robin, Spawn, or Judge Dredd movies did to their characters and we'll have to wait a decade to get another X-Men movie or worse turn people off from it altogether?

A) I got a new computer

So I've built a new computer, somewhat frustrating experience, still working out the kinks in getting the right drivers and settings and whatnot. Trying to partition the HD to get Ubuntu and XP to play nice is kind of a pain in the ass, I've never done it before.

Frys had an awesome sale (for me, bad for them) where they were selling the E6750/abit Mobo combo at a loss, so I jumped on it.

Got a Coolermaster 690 case because it had decent reviews and didn't cost an arm and a leg, so far its super-cool, temperatures haven't seen 20C yet, and I could still install 3 more 120mm fans. My old case was averaging around 50C.

OCZ 700Watt PSU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341002

2 gigs of Patriot ddr2 6400 memory http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220144

Went with a Seagate Barracuda SATA hardrive

but made the mistake of getting an IDE DVD drive

I'm thinking of returning it to get the SATA goodness. Thats definitely the way to go, couple wires are way better than a cumbersome cable.

The last thing I put in was the video card... and then I realized I've got an AGP video card and a PCI-E slot... I am an idiot.

So I had to get a graphics card and went with the Hightech Radeon 1950pro 512MB version, seemed like the best bang for the buck in the price range I was looking at and should be able to handle Crysis, Gears of War, Quake Wars, UT3, Bioshock, etc etc etc

After all that, stacking my system up against the dell catalog I got in the mail last week, looks like I saved somewhere around 800-1000 bucks by building it myself and got quality components instead of the generic crap they use.

Still need one of the following to happen to resume the comicvine obsession

B) the giant delete/combine thread http://www.comicvine.com/message/giant-sized-combine-delete-thread/21111/&c=34&34&page=2 gets a big done picture posted in it

C) P-Man comes back

D) Comicvine gets mentioned on Oprah or the Colbert Report

E) I get sick

Time for a Vacation

I'm going to take a sabbatical from submissions until at least 2/5 of the following happens:

A) I get a new computer

B) the giant delete/combine thread http://www.comicvine.com/message/giant-sized-combine-delete-thread/21111/&c=34&34&page=2

gets a big done picture posted in it

C) P-Man comes back

D) Comicvine gets mentioned on Oprah or the Colbert Report

E) I get sick

Anyone that wants to fill the void of my dozen or so daily submissions can finish filling in missing Golden Age titles using http://www.comics.org and torturing yourself removing dupe pics and such from obscenely massive character galleries.

R.I.P. Laptop

Well my laptop has finally died, so now i've got to decide what to do with it.

*A) A very expensive frisbee

*B) A very expensive dartboard

*C) Spare parts

*D) Waste of closet space

*E) None of the above

5 years ain't bad for a laptop is it? Looks like I won't be able to contribute for a while.

#New Tiger Army#

New album out today 6/5, I highly recommend buying a copy, great album, I love it, favorite album of the year so far. You can hear a couple tracks off the album on their Myspace page or get the single "Afterworld" by clicking the graphic above, see if you like it. Also its off Hellcat Records, an independent label that doesn't rip off its artists or run around suing fans so please don't download it.

Abduction Plans Foiled

Well Red LAMP proved more elusive than I had predicted, having the plate number before I left would have helped, there's just too many costumed weirdos in the bay area to sort through. I asked around where I could find guys that wear their underwear on the outside with capes and I wound up in the Castro District, confused and somewhat afraid. I searched in the watering holes where web 2.0 gurus have been known to congregate, no LAMP to be found there, but I did however meet one of youtube's founders who has an impressive, almost decadent toilet.

Gone to the Bay Area

Going to abduct Red LAMP and hold him for ransom until all the dupes are gone. Its kind of an evil thing to do but I guess its justified since he's a villain.

To Kill Time

Going for 1000 points in one sitting without having to write anything because writing makes my head hurt and I like filling in old missing issues to see the old creators that worked on them. Hope to finish Strange Tales. I love the covers of these old books, wish they did more of like these nowadays

Then again I guess the comics code was all about stopping the scary stuff in comics. I'm sure America's children have been much more well adjusted reading about superheros in their underwear fighting to stop the world from ending every day.

Anyways, side goal is to see if I can drive Captain Cascader or Red LAMP nuts with a ton of new issue submissions.
