2020's GREEN LANTERN CORPS - What I'd Like To See (some quick thoughts)

The film: I'd love a Green Lantern movie with Hal Jordan and John Stewart taking lead in the main plot (set in outer space), with Simon Baz and Kyle Rayner both having significant parts within a sub-plot back on Earth (possibly telling the origin of Simon Baz, and having Rayner come to his aid) - this would lead to the film's finale being a massive battle brought down on Earth, with the human Green Lanterns fighting together alongside the Corps.

For the main plot, involving Jordan and Stewart in outer place, this is where the films embraces the fantasy and overly imaginative 'Guardians of the Galaxy' style aspects of the Green Lantern mythology, while back on Earth we get a more emotional and grounded aspect to the film, giving a more human feel to the film compared to the elaborate fantasy seen in the space elements.

Villains: I'd love to see either Sinestro and his Sinestro Corps, or the Red Lanterns. There's no specific storyline I'd like taken on, and I'd be happy to see an original one, somewhat following my outline above.

---

EDIT: If there's a way to fit Jessica Cruz in without it being too crowded, that'd be perfect. More than one rookie Lantern is likely to not work well however, so Baz might not fit right.

The Earth subplot with Rayner and Baz could be swapped out for Jessica Cruz and The Flash -- they've a great dynamic in the comics, and adding a little Flash star-power would be a great move for the film following 2011's disappointment. Cruz could get her ring, with Barry coming to help her to adjust - this could also work in Barry and Hal's first time meeting, when the galactic threat comes to Earth.

Batman - Man Among Gods

I came across a post recently from a Viner, who was wondering what it is that makes Batman so appealing - I thought I'd make a blog post on the topic.

So what makes Batman so great? He's just some dude in a costume right? Here's why, in my opinion, the Dark Knight is one of the best comic-book characters of all time.

In a universe full of superpowered beings with God-like strength and abilities, Batman is a man who pushed himself to meet them - pushing himself to the peak of human capabilities physically, mastering over a hundred forms of martial art, and utilizing his own genius, having one of the strongest minds and intellect of the whole world. He is one of the world's most intelligent, strongest, quickest, most skilled men on the planet. In many ways, he's quite literally the ultimate human being.

A key point to this however, is human - while some hardcore fans don't see beyond my above description and hail him like a 'Batgod', Bruce Wayne is still just a man. A man among gods and monsters. And his unbreakable strength of willpower and determination means that he never backs down, and will always fight against cruelty and evil. The fact that even though he's pushed himself beyond being a simple man, he's still just that.

And again, on the 'human' point, the man has clear flaws, and does not always win. Distrusting, and paranoid. Designing contingency plans against each and every ally he has, in case he needs to take them down (example here). Jason Todd, the second Robin was beaten to death by the Joker (example here), who also went on to shoot Barbara Gordon (Batgirl) through the spine, crippling her. He's gone through immense tragedy and loss, but continued to push on, taking his pain, his suffering and turning it against those who cause it.

A lot of these aspects the reader can relate to, and aspire toward - relating to his flaws, and the fact he's a mere man - and aspiring toward pushing themselves further, being better than they are. Quite like how people admire brilliant musicians, athletes or just great people in general.

I hope this helped, and was worth the read.

Gotham - Season 2 predictions

  • Thomas Wayne was a (reluctant) member of the Court of Owls. The "Batcave" that was teased in the finale's last scene was one of the Court's locations to meet.
  • Penguin struggles to build his empire.
  • Edward continues his descent into becoming the Riddler, killing more people, managing to hide everything he does from the GCPD by framing others etc. (a Dexter kind of situation)
  • They'll continue the Dollmaker storyline, possibly tie it up.
  • Ivy Pepper gets adopted by the Isley family.
  • Barbara gets put into Arkham, and is either already pregnant (unlikely), or escapes and rapes Jim - leading to a pregnancy with twins.
  • Edward kills Kringle when she finds out what he's done.
  • Mad Hatter is introduced as a therapist specializing in hypnosis. Is a pedophile.
  • Less a prediction; just me hoping - Zsasz has a complete breakdown and develops into the Zsasz we know from the comics, and the Arkham games.
  • Also, some small hint that Fish isn't confirmed dead. They'll probably want to keep her open to returning.

Thoughts?
