This is a series I always had some interest way back when it had just started. I never got around to it, and never got past the first few issues, but not from lack of interest. So I Recently sat down and took on this series and read all 14 of the volumes, plus the 2 other available ones (one which was a few extra stories and the other being the events that took place before the comic).

Now, did I like it? Well I read all 14 volumes in about a week so obviously I did. I was smitten by this story and it's cast of characters. I found myself engaged and forming this bond with them that only a few other stories have done before (most in the video game medium).

The Characters

There was something so down to earth and charming about it. It's characters all going through very real problems and dealing with them in their own way. Their personalities all being used perfectly to tell how they'd react to and face the issues.

I loved Susan and Esther. Susan as this though tomboyish girl with a bit of a feminist streak in her (but never came off as annoying). Esther was interesting as a happy charismatic goth girl. I would say that Daisy IMO was the weakest of the three. She did have some good romantic arcs, but as a person, I just didn't vibe with her like I did the other 2.

Even though the series is centered around the main female trio, their male friends get some decent page time and development. I loved all 3 for different reasons. The old fashioned gentleman Mcgraw, the nerdy nice guy Ed, and the pompous elitist nerd Dean.

The Romance

A big aspect of this book I would say are the relationships. And i think this book covers the entire spectrum of relationships one could have growing up. The on again off again (and finally on for good) relationships. The toxic ones, whether it be because they are bad for you, or because it's forcing you to change into something your not. This book does something I wanted to see done in this one show, where a certain relationship just wasn't meant to be. Because the two people in question just never meet when the other is available. That to me, breaks the trope of the "will they won't they".

In Conclusion

I loved this series. By the end I was left with a case of melancholy. I had grown to love these characters as if they were my own friends (somehow even better than my real friends, who can be dicks sometimes). The ending wasn't sad, or overly happy, it was just a nice little ending reaffirming the bond these 3 share. But I couldn't help but feel sad, like I wanted to keep going (and I know the creator is still making some web comics). I didn't want to say goodbye, and I'll miss them. I hope that maybe there's a cartoon or a show of sorts, so I can relive the magic that was this book (well, hoping its good_

@vjbthe3:

The fights have always had some nuance to who truly one. The S1 final fight kinda threw a wrench in it cus Robbie was hurt, then you have this season, where Robbie was kinda distracted and lost to Hawk. Same with Hawk "beating" Miguel, he only won by default. The only clear indicator of a real win, was the S2 fight, where Miguel clearly won, but because he showed Mercy to Robbie, Robbie took advantage of that. But now, he's got a messed up back, so it's unclear where he is on the scale. They are definitely in the top 3. The two girls are probably equals. Maybe Sam is a little better, but not by much.

Agreed. I skip over the Beast Boy stuff lol

They focused less on Miss Martian, Superboy's literal wife. And her road to recovery seems to be (albeit a bit soon, but who knows how long the trip is) starting. And I get that some may say "well it's realistic that he's that sad for this long" or whatever, but from a story perspective , it's killing the flow of the main story. Unless he kills himself, I just don't think all this screen time is warranted.

Someone on the writing staff, or the VA's agent, really are going to town on Beast Boy since S3.

WOw, so this recent arc is going for more than just 4 episodes? Unless, they plan on coming back to it later and tying it into other stories? If it's the former, it's cool to see Zatanna get so much screen time, since she never really stood out the previous seasons, IMO. One gripe I have, is the constant focus on the Beast Boy stuff, I'm getting really tired of it. It's just the same shit over and over again. We get it, he's depressed! Do something new

People were chanting Tobey's name at some of these screenings.

That was kinda lit tho. I love all the deep cut nods to the old games like the snow boarding and the biplane, very cool.

I never saw the first one, was it any good?

Depends on what you're looking for? It's a very small stakes film, about Sonic making a friend and going on a road trip to get his rings back. I thought it was a fun time, and JIm Carrey as Dr. Eggman was fun, set up his arc to becoming more like his video game self
