INTRODUCTION

"Valkorion. Tenebrae. Vitiate. Emperor of the Sith. My low-born son has worn many masks." - Lord Dramath

Tenebrae was exceptionally strong in the Dark Side of the Force, and infamous for his proficiency in possessing, controlling, or consuming other beings and even an entire world. Tenebrae was obsessed with immortality and uncovered ways to cheat death, and in doing so, became a virtually immortal entity with the ability to manifest his powers independent of corporeal existence. This characteristic enabled Tenebrae to don multiple identities in order to influence galactic affairs in profound ways. He had the power to reshape worlds, and not necessarily for the better.

Tenebrae was born in ancient times, in 5113 BBY, and was gifted in the use of the Dark Side.

The child who will come to be known as the Sith Emperor is born. Black-eyed, heartless, and supremely strong in the dark side of the Force, the boy seizes control of his homeworld by the age of 13 and earns the title Lord Vitiate.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Encyclopedia)

---

THE SECRETIVE and supremely powerful Sith Emperor rose from inauspicious beginnings over a thousand years ago. Born to farmers on the planet Medriaas, Tenebrae entered the galaxy without shedding a tear. He regarded his parents with cold pitiless eyes. As years passed Tenebrae manifested Force powers and honed his mastery of the dark side.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Encyclopedia)

---

Long before assuming his current form, Valkorion was a Sith pureblood named Vitiate born on the lush and vibrant world of Medriaas. Vitiate rose to become Emperor of the Sith and ruled for over a thousand years--but only after extracting a terrible price.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Knights of the Eternal Throne: Codex Entry titled "Nathema.")

In the aftermath of Great Hyperspace War (5000 - 4999 BBY), Tenebrae rose to prominence and reconstituted the ancient Sith Empire in absolute secrecy in a different location within the galaxy.

Lord Vitiate takes command of the Sith Empire, now in shambles following the Great Hyperspace War. He executes the Sith Council and consumes the life force of thousands of Sith Lords in a terrifying ritual that extends his life and vastly increases his capacity as a practitioner of the Force. Lord Vitiate declares himself Emperor of the Sith. Under his sovereign rule, the Empire retreats into deep space to rebuild its strength and prepare for vengeance.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Encyclopedia)

---

All members of the Empire bow before their sovereign ruler - the SITH EMPEROR. Enigmatic and supremely powerful, the Emperor directs his domain from the shadows and manipulates the galaxy to carry out his will.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Encyclopedia)

---

There has been only one Sith Emperor since the Great Hyperspace War over 1,300 years ago. He is supreme.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Codex Entry titled "Sith Titles.")

Tenebrae maintained the identity, role and responsibilities of being The Sith Emperor for centuries and explored the dark side at a greater depth than any other in this capacity, but he eventually came to perceive Sith philosophy and teachings as being archaic. Unbeknowest to the Sith, he embraced a new philosophy (i.e. Limitless Power) which encouraged balance and exploration, established a new civilization in further uncharted depths of the galaxy (i.e. the Eternal Empire), and adopted a new identity to rule it (i.e. The Immortal Emperor).

Valkorion is an ancient Sith entity with the power to possess and control the bodies of others, using them as puppets to enforce his will on the galaxy. The Immortal Emperor is his latest mask and Zakuul his greatest, most ambitious endeavor: an idealistic playground where he can shed his past and experience a new life unburdened by archaic Sith teachings. A manipulative survivor, Valkorion pinpoints the weaknesses of both friends and enemies alike, twisting them to serve his purpose. He believes the entire galaxy is his to shape and will stop at nothing to reach his goals.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Knights of the Fallen Empire: Codex Entry titled "Valkorion.")

When Tenebrae tasted defeat in the Great Galactic War, he abandoned the Sith in full capacity and made his contempt for them known by devastating and consuming ZIOST:

The man now called Vitiate by those who once served him was not strong enough to usurp all life on Yavin 4 after his reawakening. However, he did gain power enough to flee the jungle moon and survive. Now that he has found in Ziost a suitable target to replenish himself--now that he appears to grow more powerful by the hour--what now? When will his unforgiving depletion of Ziost end? And when it does end, what fate will befall the rest of the galaxy?

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Rise of the Emperor: Codex Entry titled "Vitiate")

+

It is a time of chaos. A mysterious army led by twin conquerors has carved a path of destruction across the worlds of the warring Galactic Republic and Sith Empire, then disappeared into uncharted space.

Meanwhile, an older threat still looms: the former SITH EMPEROR, revitalized after annihilating all life on the planet Ziost, has similarly vanished without a trace.

Determined to hunt down these dangerous foes at any cost, Imperial leader DARTH MARR gather allies from both factions to join his incusion into the far reaches of Wild Space....

From (Epilogue, Star Wars: The Old Republic: Knights of the Fallen Empire, Chapter 1)

+

With each rebirth, he grew stronger. His machinations became grander. The pain and suffering he unleashed became greater. Some believed his ultimate goal was conquest: the complete subjugation of every world, known and unknown. Others believed he sought annihilation: the consumption of every living being in the galaxy, until he alone remained.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Knights of the Eternal Throne: Codex Entry titled "The Fall of Valkorion.")

Tenebrae by now was stronger than ever before and The Immortal Emperor in full capacity:

Valkorion has lived for millennia, using his dark mastery of the Force to assume many forms. His latest incarnation is Valkorion, the Immortal Emperor of the Eternal Empire. After ruling for centuries, he was struck down in an act of treachery engineered by his son, Arcann. But the Immortal Emperor could not be vanquished so easily. He evaded death by infiltrating the mind of the Outlander, his most powerful opponent. He now appears to the Outlander as an apparition, offering guidance and harsh lessons while carrying out a master plan that remains shrouded in secrecy.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Knights of the Eternal Throne: Official Profile)

In the nutshell:

Over the millennia, Valkorion wore many faces and names: Lord Vitiate; Emperor of the Sith; Eternal Emperor of Zakuul. For centuries upon centuries, he shaped and manipulated galactic events, bending the arc of history to his will during his obsessive quest for immortality. A being of unfathomable power and insatiable appetite, he transcended death multiple times, shedding his physical shells as they were discovered, defeated, and destroyed... only to return in another form.

MOST POWERFUL FORCE-USER

----------

Companion blog: Power progression and evolution of Valkorion.

----------

Tenebrae would become the most powerful Force-user in the galaxy at some point; stronger than any Force-user to have ever existed. The collection of statements in this section are very telling. For further insight, please check sections with titles (DEVOURER OF WORLDS), (IMMORTALITY), and (MULTI-TASKING ON A MONUMENTAL LEVEL) respectively below.

The Emperor was no longer a member of the Sith species; his power and immortality had transformed him into a being unique in the galaxy. When he spoke of life and death, it had far deeper meaning than the mere physical existence of the lesser beings that served him.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Revan)

+

Scourge expected them to search him, or at least instruct him to turn over his weapons. But Yarri and the others simply stood at attention, waiting for him to enter. The fact that they showed no concern over letting an armed Sith Lord speak to the Emperor face-to-face without any kind of preparation was a testament to the Emperor's unfathomable power.

EMBODIMENT OF THE DARK SIDE OF THE FORCE

Tenebrae (The Sith Emperor) explored the dark side in greater depth than anybody else:

In his relentless pursuit of immortality, the Emperor explored the most sinister, uncharted depths of the dark side.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Encyclopedia)

- and became the living embodiment the dark side of the Force:

He was a living embodiment of the dark side of the Force who delighted in destroying the minds and spirits of those Jedi who came too close to him.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Encyclopedia)

+

The Emperor is more than a man - he is the living embodiment of the dark side.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Encyclopedia)

Tenebrae (Vitiate) was perceived to be the dark side incarnate:

"The Emperor is the dark side incarnate. You wouldn't stand a chance.....you are nothing to him."

From (The Emperor's Wrath, Star Wars: The Old Republic: Shadow of Revan)

Tenebrae (The Sith Emperor) transformed environmental conditions of the planet DROMUND KAAS in his image:

DROMUND KAAS
DROMUND KAAS

The powerful electrical storms were a physical manifestation of the dark side power that engulfed the entire planeta power that had brought the Sith back here a millennium before, when their very survival had been in doubt.

Taken from (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Revan)

Tenebrae (The Sith Emperor) corrupted the atmosphere of the planet DROMUND KAAS to such an extent that the planet experienced stormy conditions for indefinite period - deprived from sunlight in the process. The planet became a nexus of dark side energy and its environmental shift gave rise to deadly flora and fauna.

Power hungry, the Emperor spent great energy discovering and perfecting esoteric rites of darkness – rituals that wrecked the atmosphere of Dromund Kaas, transforming the ionosphere into a swirling electric storm.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Holonet)

+

Storms were common here on Dromund Kaas; dark clouds perpetually blocked out the sun, rendering terms like day and night meaningless.

MEETRA FOUGHT TO KEEP the Ebon Hawk steady on its descent through the fierce storms raging in the skies above Kaas City spaceport.

She knew the storm-ravaged world had to be the world Canderous had spoken of; the one Revan had seen in his dreams. The dark side was powerful here.

Taken from (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Revan)

NOTE (1): Seemingly permanent shift in the climatic conditions would have had a profound impact on the flora and fauna of the planet.

ENDLESS NIGHTS, DEADLY JUNGLES, and violent electrical storms enshroud the hostile world of Dromund Kaas.

Taken from (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Encyclopedia)

No Caption Provided

The violent electical storms necessitated construction of Lightning Spires on buildings in Dromund Kaas:

The lightning spires of Dromund Kaas tower above the planet's dark jungles, attracting the deadly lightning strikes that constantly scorch the world's storm-ravaged surface. The spires protect ground forces from falling prey to deadly strikes and harness the storm's electrical energy to power Kaas City.

The lightning spires were originally conceived by Renigus Wight, a former commander in the Imperial Reclamation Service. Renigus was spearheading an excavation mission in the jungles of Dromund Kaas when a violent storm erupted in the skies overhead. His officers ran for shelter, but were too slow. A single bolt of lightning wiped out his entire crew: 49 officers, researchers and slaves. Renigus only survived thanks to the grace of a twisted ankle that caused him to lag behind the panicked stampede and miss the fatal strike.

Following this incident, Renigus retired from the service to design the first lightning spire-a beacon of safety to shield future Imperial expeditions from the planet's wrathful storms.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Knights of the Eternal Throne: Codex Entry titled "Lightning Spires.")

NOTE (2): DROMUND KAAS is a large (rocky) body, with the diameter of 22,450 km, as per the disclosure in Star Wars: The Dark Forces saga related content.

Tenebrae (The Sith Emperor) created a powerful nexus of dark side energy on the planet DROMUND KAAS:

Burial place, prison, and reliquary, the Dark Temple was built on the orders of the Emperor to seal away powerful artifacts and the Emperor's enemies, both alive and dead. The temple became a nexus of dark side energy as the Emperor performed rituals within, drawing strength and knowledge from his captives.

DEVOURER OF WORLDS

----------

Companion blog: Valkorion - slave to HUNGER (and) False Sith

----------

Tenebrae devoured two worlds over the course of his existence. He consumed planet MEDRIAAS in a terrifying ritual in 4999 BBY to achieve IMMORTALITY and become more powerful than ever before - at the expense of countless lives. Centuries later, he consumed planet ZIOST with his immense power in the dark side of the Force in 3637 BBY to REVITALIZE himself and become more powerful than ever before - at the expense of countless lives once again.

"He lured many Sith Lords here before consuming them in a dark ritual that wiped out all life on the planet." (Lord Dramath)

"He did something similar on Ziost." (Lana Beniko)

"His hunger for immortality must constantly be fed." (Lord Dramath)

-----

MEDRIAAS - 4999 BBY

Tenebrae CONSUMED the planet MEDRIAAS in a terrifying ritual, transforming it into a VOID in the Force.

The Sith Emperor, history's most powerful dark side master, performed a ritual of incredible scope to consume the life energy of every being on his homeworld.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Encyclopedia)

---

SIGNIFICANCE

Tenebrae (Darth Vitiate) orchestrated the most ambitious and dangerous ritual ever to be attempted by Sith on his homeworld MEDRIAAS in pursuit of "corporeal immortality."

Nathema: Once known as Medriaas, Nathema was an agriworld of the Sith Empire at a time when Sith also controlled the Chorlian sector. An ancient Dark Lord of the Sith named Darth Vitiate destroyed all life on Nathema with a ritual designed to grant him immortality. A transcription of this ritual was recorded by Darth Revan and served as the inspiration for Lord Kaan's thought bomb on Ruusan.

From (Star Wars: Force and Destiny - Core Rulebook)

The aforementioned revelation reflects upon Darth Bane's thoughts centuries later:

To Bane it seemed the teachings contained within the single Holocron surpassed those of the Academy’s entire archives. Revan had discovered many of the rituals of the ancient Sith, and as the Holocron’s avatar explained their nature and purpose, Bane could barely wrap his mind around their awesome potential. Some of the rituals were so terrible-so dangerous to attempt, even for a true Sith Master-that he doubted he would ever dare to use them. Yet he dutifully copied them down on sheaves of flimsi, preserving them so he could study them in greater depth later.

From (Star Wars: Darth Bane: Path of Destruction)

Darth Bane FELT that some of the rituals of the ancient Sith were so terrible and dangerous to attempt for even a true Sith Master that he would never take his chances with them (Tenebrae's ritual being one of these); Darth Bane encouraged the Brotherhood of Darkness to employ relatively manageable rituals such as the Force Storm and Thought Bomb respectively, to defeat Jedi-led forces on Ruusan (Star Wars: Darth Bane: Path of Destruction).

BEFORE THE DEED

Tenebrae (original) was a remarkably gifted and talented Force-user by any measure:

The child who will come to be known as the Sith Emperor is born. Black-eyed, heartless, and supremely strong in the dark side of the Force, the boy seizes control of his homeworld by the age of 13 and earns the title Lord Vitiate.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Encyclopedia)

Sever Force application came naturally to Tenebrae (original) when he was just a child (FATE of Lord Dramath serve as a reminder that even a powerful Force-user was vulnerable):

Lord Dramath ruled the Sith world of Medriaas more than a millennium ago. Caring little for day-to-day governing, the Sith Lord spent his time hosting feasts and traveling around the agricultural planet. During a trip to the distant northern continent, Dramath had an affair with a poor farmer woman, siring a son whom he promptly forgot.

Ten years later, the Sith Lord heard rumors of a child gathering power in the northern continent, but did not personally investigate until his envoys failed to return. After days of travel, Dramath reached the source of the rumors only to face his illegitimate son, Tenebrae, the future Sith Emperor and immortal ruler of Zakuul. That day, Tenebrae removed his father's connection to the Force and imprisoned him within a powerful holocron, leaving Dramath alone to wither slowly into madness over an eternity.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Knights of the Eternal Throne: Codex Entry titled "Lord Dramath.")

Tenebrae (original) discovered ZILDROG on his homeworld MEDRIAAS at some point:

The ancient mechanical entity known as Zildrog has always operated from behind the scenes. Unlike the other "machine gods" of Iokath, Zildrog permanently functions in two forms.

The first is a central computer that specializes in the transfer of life energies. Given this device's presence on Nathema, it is likely that Zildrog was a key element of the original ritual Tenebrae used to empower himself at the cost of all life on the planet

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: The Nathema Conspiracy: Codex Entry titled "Zildrog.")

- and would have figured out as much. However, ZILDROG was an ancient superweapon, and could be used to consume an entire world, and possibly much more:

"I thought it was just a legend, but he dragon god of Zakuul is real... it's a superweapon. Capable of consuming entire civilizations."

From (Vinn Atrius, Star Wars: The Old Republic: The Nathema Conspiracy)

POWER of such magnitude would prove FATAL not just to the operator but to the world at large, but Tenebrae (original) would take his chances one day. Enter Sith Sorcery.

While many Sith were preoccupied with Imperial politics, Tenebrae (original) dedicated himself to honing his abilities in the dark side:

The child who will come to be known as the Sith Emperor is born. Black-eyed, heartless, and supremely strong in the dark side of the Force, the boy seizes control of his homeworld by the age of 13 and earns the title Lord Vitiate. He amasses an army of Sith followers and turns his back on Imperial politics to hone his skills in the dark side.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Encyclopedia)

Tenebrae (original) had one goal in mind (i.e. IMMORTALITY). He would make this possible via Sith Sorcery while putting ZILDROG to good use:

The ancient mechanical entity known as Zildrog has always operated from behind the scenes. Unlike the other "machine gods" of Iokath, Zildrog permanently functions in two forms.

The first is a central computer that specializes in the transfer of life energies. Given this device's presence on Nathema, it is likely that Zildrog was a key element of the original ritual Tenebrae used to empower himself at the cost of all life on the planet. Beyond that first atrocity, however, Zildrog's central mind appears to have played no role in Tenebrae's dual life as Vitiate and Valkorion, and slumbered in stasis mode until Vinn Atrius discovered it many years later.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: The Nathema Conspiracy: Codex Entry titled "Zildrog.")

Tenebrae (original) devised a terrifying RITUAL, and also decided to eliminate all manner of competition in a masterstroke.

THE DEED

THAT day would come by the end of the Great Hyperspace War when Tenebrae (original) called upon all surviving Lords of the Sith to join him on his homeworld (OR die at the hands of Jedi). Sith Lord Naga Sadow and many others were presumed to be dead by now. Therefore, this was the time for someone else to prove his mettle and a new leader shall be selected:

Lord Vitiate returned to his homeworld while rest of the Sith Empire waged the Great Hyperspace War against the Republic. When the hasty Sith offensive ended in failure, the Empire collapsed - but Lord Vitiate was stronger than ever. He bid every surviving Sith to unite or die at the hands of Jedi. Eight thousand Sith Lords gathered on Medriaas and agreed to partake in a ritual that would bind the Sith together as an ultimate dark side weapon.

The ritual lasted ten days. Lord Vitiate orchestrated the sorcery and the planet Mediraas was consumed by the largest dark side nexus the galaxy would ever see. When the ritual ended, Lord Vitiate emerged as the only survivor. The pain, energy, and suffering of every living entity on the planet fueled his power and would prolong his life for centuries. The lifeless planet of Mediraas became a void in the Force and was erased from history. From that moment forward, the world would forever be known as Nathema, birthplace of the one and only Sith Emperor.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Encyclopedia)

+

Early in his reign, Vitiate invited thousands of the most powerful Sith Lords to his homeworld, then wiped out his would-be challengers in a profane dark side ritual that annihilated all life on the planet. Even the Force could not survive. The void that remained after the ritual brought pain and suffering to any Force-sensitive beings that approached.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Knights of the Eternal Throne: Codex Entry titled "Nathema.")

+

The Emperor had consumed everything. Life, sound, color, even the Force—nothing remained. This wasn’t about conquest or domination or destroying an enemy—all concepts Scourge embraced.

Everything on Nathema had simply been snuffed out, extinguished so completely that it ceased to have any meaning or purpose. It was a vacuum of existence; a blight on the natural order.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Revan)

Darth Nyriss mused that the visiting Sith Lords fell under the spell of Tenebrae (original) and became unwitting pawns in his plan:

And the Sith Lords were driven by fear. Many thought the Jedi would soon wipe them all out. They were desperate for anything they could use as a weapon against the servants of the light side. Lord Vitiate played upon these fears, convincing those who answered his call to set aside their suspicions of him and of one another to join in a single glorious cause.

Once they arrived on Nathema, they quickly fell under Lord Vitiate's control. He dominated their minds, crushed their resistance. He turned them into slaves to his will, forcing them to participate in the most complex ritual of Sith sorcery ever attempted. Calling on the dark side, Lord Vitiate devoured them. He fed on their power, absorbing it into himself, utterly obliterating all traces of his victims.

But the ritual was not confined to the doomed Sith Lords. They were but the eye of the storm; the center of a vortex that spread across the entire planet. Every man, woman, and child on Nathema died that day. Every beast, bird, and fish; all the insects and plants; every living being touched by the Force was consumed. When the ritual ended, Nathema was no longer a world. It was a husk sucked dry. Lord Vitiate sacrificed millions, stealing their life force to make himself immortal. Their deaths also made him stronger than any Sith who had come before, and he ceased to be known as Lord Vitiate. On that day, the Emperor was truly born.

From (Darth Nyriss, Star Wars: The Old Republic: Revan)

Tenebrae (original) had now experienced the effects, first-hand:

"It is a technique that is almost as old as the Sith themselves…it is a means of severing connections between life, the Force, and feeding upon the death it causes. It cannot be taught…it can only be gained through instinct, through experiencing its effects, first-hand."

From (Darth Traya, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords)

In full view of the Sith Sorcery of such magnitude and Tenebrae's subsequent transformation:

Lord Vitiate takes command of the Sith Empire, now in shambles following the Great Hyperspace War. He executes the Sith Council and consumes the life force of thousands of Sith Lords in a terrifying ritual that extends his life and vastly increases his capacity as a practitioner of the Force. Lord Vitiate declares himself Emperor of the Sith. Under his sovereign rule, the Empire retreats into deep space to rebuild its strength and prepare for vengeance.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Encyclopedia)

- the remainder of the ancient Sith Empire recognized Tenebrae as Emperor of the Sith, rallied under him, and all disappeared into the Unknown Regions for decades until they found in DROMUND KAAS a suitable world to reconstitute the Sith Empire (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Encyclopedia); scores of Sith became master(s) of the dark side of the Force and devised new powers meanwhile (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Encyclopedia).

The reconstituted ancient Sith Empire would be stronger and better organized than ever before, with advancements in all aspects of life, but in absolute secrecy (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Encyclopedia).

ABOVE ALL ELSE

Tenebrae prevented ECOLOGICAL RECOVERY of the post-apocalypse MEDRIAAS (i.e. NATHEMA) for over 1300 years until his demise:

The ecological revitalization of Nathema has been nothing short of miraculous. Vibrant plant life has not only taken root but flourished, dramatically altering the planet's once-desolate landscape.

Force-users no longer experience the unsettling "wrongness" that they once felt whenever setting foot on the planet. The air has become fresher, and the weather more dynamic.

That this has all occurred since the death of Valkorion cannot be a coincidence, though experts cannot agree on any precise environmental mechanism that could have brought about such an abrupt change.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: The Nathema Conspiracy: Codex Entry titled "Zildrog.")

Implications of this revelation are immense. Tenebrae prevented ECOLOGICAL RECOVERY of the post-apocalypse MEDRIAAS (i.e. NATHEMA) for over 1300 years while partaking in other (demanding) set-of-activities in other worlds including attending to the matters of the Jedi and the Sith. In other words, Tenebrae prevented HEALING of A VOID IN THE FORCE around MEDRIAAS for over 1300 years while partaking in other (demanding) set-of-activities in other worlds including attending to the matters of the Jedi and the Sith. This is a phenomenal display of multi-tasking on the part of Tenebrae, and sheds new light on how to gauge his powers.

BEFORE THE DEED

At some point during the course of the Great Galactic War, Tenebrae (The Sith Emperor) orchestrated his most ambitious ritual that would grant him unparalleled power but at the expense of the entire galaxy (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Encyclopedia). However, some of the greatest warriors in the galaxy including the legendary Jedi Knight (alias Hero of Tython) and the former Emperor's Wrath Lord Scourge acted swiftly and succeeded in disrupting said ritual with collective effort (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Encyclopedia); Tenebrae (The Sith Emperor) suffered a setback from such disruption (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Jedi Knight - Act 3 - Doomsday), and his Voice was also struck down during a covert operation in Dromund Kaas (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Encyclopedia). Meanwhile the legendary Jedi Consular (alias The Barsen'thor) and her allies struck another blow to Tenebrae (The Sith Emperor) by unmasking and eliminating numerous Children and even the First Son (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Encyclopedia).

Tenebrae (The Sith Emperor) lost much of his powerbase due to the aforementioned, and the Sith also attempted to undermine him (Star Wars: The Old Republic: the Sith Warrior story arc; Lord Scourge - the former Emperor's Wrath). Tenebrae breached the Dark Temple and escaped to YAVIN 4 in the form of an intangible presence to recuperate from a series of setbacks he had suffered earlier; Tenebrae's consciousness to be exact.

The unexpected blow was a shock. The Emperor's consciousness was wrenched from his Voice. He now slumbers, gathering his strength.

From (Message from Servant One of the Emperor's Hand)

Thanks in part to a crazy incarnation of Revan (a reanimated corpse to be exact) - who brought WAR to YAVIN 4, Tenebrae's consciousness made extensive use of Drain Life Essence application to feed on each instance of death in its surroundings and he reawakened consequently; the feeding on deaths aspect is enabled by the Drain Life Essence application (Book of Sith: Secrets from the Dark Side).

Tenebrae's consciousness was now strong enough to escape from YAVIN 4 and teleported to ZIOST in an exceedingly violent manifestation of power (Fold Space implied), killing many more in the process:

Tenebrae's consciousness had decided to abandon the Sith in full capacity by now (see the companion blog Devastation of ZIOST for more information), and give a live demonstration to both the Jedi and the Sith of what it could do - an ACE up its sleeve. Enter Drain Force.

Since Tenebrae (original) had experienced the effects, first-hand, on NATHEMA centuries earlier:

"It is a technique that is almost as old as the Sith themselves…it is a means of severing connections between life, the Force, and feeding upon the death it causes. It cannot be taught…it can only be gained through instinct, through experiencing its effects, first-hand."

From (Darth Traya, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords)

- WHEN his CONSCIOUSNESS regained much of its FORMER strength on ZIOST, he decided to consume the world itself.

A DARK STRATEGY FOR REGAINING STRENGTH

Some people have attempted to advance the notion on Wookieepedia and other platforms that the CATACLYSM OF ZIOST was the outcome of a SITH RITUAL but this is ERRONEOUS ASSUMPTION. Related discussion in the SWTOR official forum only added to the confusion with select members being guilty of advancing unsubstantiated perspectives in the mix.

FORCE POWERS - The primary means by which a Force user manipulates the Force is not unconscious. A true Force user can deliberately tap into the Force to change and manipulate himself and his surroundings. The Force can allow someone to do things others may see as fantastic or unbelievable: levitating items, blocking blaster shots with one's hands, controlling the minds of others, and even predicting the future.

From (Star Wars: Force and Destiny: Core Rulebook)

ZIDROG had two components in total (Surface and Mobile); surface component was planted on Medriaas (NATHEMA) by an ancient civilization identified as Iokath; mobile component was the Gravestone starship:

The second of Zildrog's forms is the ancient warship known as the Gravestone. Though it can be operated by an organic crew when required, the vessel's Dark Heart functions as a remote command core that allows Zildrog to control the ship as an extension of itself.

Ancient Zakuulan myths often confuse or conflate Zildrog and Izax, likely because both entities are aerial platforms employing omnicannon technology. Given the many differences in their construction and operation, it seems likely that they were actually built entirely separately--perhaps even as rival projects carried out in Iokath's endless pursuit of better and deadlier weapons.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: The Nathema Conspiracy: Codex Entry titled "Zildrog.")

ZILDROG did not exist on ZIOST, and no arcane machine is officially established which was supposedly put to good use by the Tenebrae's consciousness to its benefit after it invaded ZIOST to REPLENISH itself(or himself):

The man now called Vitiate by those who once served him was not strong enough to usurp all life on Yavin 4 after his reawakening. However, he did gain power enough to flee the jungle moon and survive. Now that he has found in Ziost a suitable target to replenish himself--now that he appears to grow more powerful by the hour--what now? When will his unforgiving depletion of Ziost end? And when it does end, what fate will befall the rest of the galaxy?

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Rise of the Emperor: Codex Entry titled "Vitiate")

Towards THAT end, Tenebrae's strategy was to use his immense power in the dark side of the Force to create CONFLICT and expand it across the breath of the planet (Telepathy implied):

Unleashed from his sanctuary on Yavin 4, the former Sith Emperor has now struck the Imperial world of Ziost. Using his immense power in the dark side of the Force, he has dominated the minds of the planet’s Imperial troops--as well as an elite cadre of militaristic Jedi--and has set them against the populace, engaging in a bloody slaughter.

As Tenebrae's consciousness became more powerful by the hour, it was able to conjure beings of pure dark side energy and unleash them across ZIOST to facilitate his agenda (Sith Sorcery implied):

"We've seen several of those creatures appearing throughout New Adasta. They're made of Sith alchemy. A sign of Vitiate's growing power. Extremely strong, next to impossible to kill. The one which you just defeated is the smallest we've came across." - Lord Lana Beniko

Putting the aforementioned into perspective:

Tenebrae's consciousness was making use of its immense power in the dark side of the Force to possess all manner of living beings and create CONFLICT across ZIOST in order to feed on resultant deaths by its unwitting pawns (multitasking with Telepathy and Drain Life Essence implied), and as its strength continued to increase due to each death, it began to conjure nigh-omnipotent beings of pure dark side energy across the world to facilitate his agenda (Sith Sorcery implied - another addition in the ongoing multitasking effort of dark side abilities to the benefit of the wielder); THE CYCLE OF GROWTH IN STRENGTH in short. Tenebrae's consciousness adopted this strategy to recover his FORMER strength at a fast pace on ZIOST - this was the point all along.

The supreme chancellor of the Republic Leontyne Saresh dispatched a large fleet of the Republic to invade ZIOST and aid the Jedi and other protagonists operating on the surface in their fight against Tenebrae's consciousness:

No Caption Provided

The protagonists on the surface were exploring ways to reduce violence on ZIOST on the other hand. For example:

"You feed on all the deaths you cause. I'm doing everything I can to take that away from you." - Sith Warrior class

Since the protagonists were making evacuations from ZIOST possible by employing arcane electrostatic weapons to break telepathic hold of Tenebrae (Vitiate) on his possessed subjects whereever possible:

No Caption Provided

Therefore, Tenebrae (Vitiate) was left with no choice but to consume ZIOST in one go.

Tenebrae's consciousness proved too powerful and impossible to contain through conventional means however. The Empire's effort to get a FIX on Tenebrae's consciousness during the course of his exploits on ZIOST:

The Empire's highest ranking officers and dignitaries are now in a state of heightened alert, and the Dark Council has assembled a contingent of powerful Sith seers to get a fix on the Emperor's presence. When he makes his move, it is believed he will not distinguish between former friend or foe, as they will all eventually become his food and none will remain.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Rise of the Emperor: Codex entry titled "The Emperor's Return?.")

- ended in failure as well, and Darth Marr admitted DEFEAT in the following message:

No Caption Provided

NOTE: Tenebrae (The Sith Emperor) had demonstrated incredible proficiency in the application of a Force Concealment technique years earlier:

The Jedi remained blind to the Emperor's children due to the presence of the First Son, the being who was first imprinted with the Emperor's power. While the First Son lived, the Emperor's secret army remained hidden and undetected beneath the Republic's nose. By the time of the Great War, hundreds of the Emperor's Children were embedded within the Republic. Devoted Jedi, loyal soldiers, and influential politicians all unknowingly served as the Emperor's spies and, when the Emperor willed it, acted to tear down the Republic they held so dear.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Encyclopedia)

THAT ability coupled with Tenebrae's seemingly unparalleled power in the dark side of the Force, proved impossible for the Jedi and Sith to address on ZIOST.

THE DEED

"Saresh finally saw reason before things got too bad, got a bunch of our troops out of there--still, we lost so many, never mind the rest of Ziost...."

From (Theron Shan, Star Wars: The Old Republic: Rise of the Emperor)

And a clear distinction is made in regards to HOW the aforementioned happened:

Global cataclysms are not unheard of. Whole worlds teeming with life have been rendered lifeless by meteorites, broken apart by instability in the planet's own core--even atomized by the destructive force of a supernova. But the eerie calm of a world stripped of life yet left otherwise intact is another matter altogether. Whispered rumors have persisted of planets snuffed out through intricate Sith rituals or by way of deadly, arcane machines--such as the device Revan sought to employ on Yavin 4--but Ziost represents a clear display of the corrosive power of the dark side of the Force taken to its extreme.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Rise of the Sith Emperor: Codex Entry titled "Death of a World.")

"used to introduce a phrase or clause contrasting with what has already been mentioned." - GOOGLE

"used to introduce an added statement, usually something that is different from what you have said before." - Cambridge English Dictionary (https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/but)

Tenebrae's demonstration of consuming ZIOST is clearly distinguished from the intricate Sith rituals and/or by the way of deadly (arcane) machines such as Zildrog (MEDRIAAS) and The Machine Core (YAVIN 4) in writing; Tenebrae's demonstration of consuming ZIOST is a clear display of the corrosive power of the dark side of the Force taken to its extreme (Drain Force implied), with no peer in scale and potency throughout the Star Wars lore.

Tenebrae (Vitiate) was able to feed on the resultant extinction event and draw that energy into himself, revitalizing himself as well as emerging stronger than ever before in the aftermath:

Meanwhile, an older threat still looms: the former SITH EMPEROR, revitalized after annihilating all life on the planet Ziost, has similarly vanished without a trace.

From (Epilogue, Star Wars: The Old Republic: Knights of the Fallen Empire, Chapter 1)

"It was a blur. We tried to evacuate as many as we could. Considering so much was out of control, I'd say we did alright...

"Especially after Ziost, putting an end to Vitiate's threat seems like an impossible task. I don't believe it truly is impossible. Even if it is were, we have to try."

From (Lana Beniko, Star Wars: The Old Republic: Rise of the Emperor)

After abandoning the Sith, and consuming ZIOST (Drain Force implied), Tenebrae (Vitiate) came to be known as Valkorion, and The Immortal Emperor was his Voice to attend to the matters of The Eternal Empire. This was his most powerful incarnation; stronger than he ever was as Tenebrae (The Sith Emperor) respectively.

As a reminder;

COLOSSAL MONOLITHS on ZIOST

Even the smallest of all Monoliths:

- was found to be virtually unstoppable in battles:

"I'm afraid so." - Lord Lana Beniko

It was tearing through heavy structures (usually made of duracrete and durasteel) like tissue paper and forced even the chief protagonist to abandon an important sector:

"Plan's over. Scrapped. Some giant thing tore through a junction, caused an electrical surge. Dampeners are shot." - Agent Rane Kovach

NOTE: Sith Lord Lana Beniko originally mistook these monsters for living creatures (works of Sith alchemy; Sithspawn); but these were rather beings or manifestations of pure dark side energy, conjured by Tenebrae (Vitiate) - a sign of the former Emperor's growing power indeed:

But Monoliths are something beyond Sithspawn: they are everlasting monstrosities built not on a foundation of living tissue but of dark side energy itself. Enduring and merciless and quite possibly unkillable, Monoliths plainly illustrate the immeasurable power of their creator and are best avoided at all costs.

Some of the Monoliths conjured by Tenebrae (Vitiate), were absolutely gigantic (could swallow humans whole), and had considerable powers of their own. These were identified as Colossal Monoliths.

Tenebrae (Vitiate) left at least one Colossal Monolith to haunt post-apocalyptic ZIOST to remind potential visitors of the horrors he had unleashed in this world before and consequences of their trespassing:

THE BOTTOM LINE

Tenebrae's exploits on ZIOST are not a Sith ritual but a demonstration of his Force abilities and the effort to replenish/revitalize himself in the mix. He was able to consume ZIOST with his immense power in the dark side of the Force and emerged stronger than ever before. Period.

IMMORTALITY

In his relentless pursuit of immortality, the Emperor explored the most sinister, uncharted depths of the dark side.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Encyclopedia)

The Dark Side is known to take a toll on the well-being of its devoted practitioners and accelerate aging:

No Caption Provided

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Encyclopedia)

The aforementioned ground reality is further apparent from the examples of Darth Xedrix [1] and Darth Bane [2] respectively:

[1] - "Against me, you would stand no chance," Nyriss replied. "But Xedrix is old and infirm. And he is human—they are a lesser species. Over the decades, the dark side has exacted too great a toll on his body. He is a hollow shell of what he once was. He holds on to his current position only because of his cunning. His followers obey him without question, too frightened of his reputation to see how age has ravaged his flesh and left him weak."

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Revan)

[2] - Age was beginning to take its toll on Bane, but it was nothing compared with the toll already wrought upon his body by decades of drawing upon the dark side of the Force. He couldn't help but smile at the grim irony: through the dark side he had access to near-infinite power, but it was power that came with· a terrible cost. Flesh and bone lacked the strength to withstand the unfathomable energy unleashed by the Force. The unquenchable fire of the dark side was consuming him, devouring him bit by bit. After decades of focusing and channeling its power, his body was beginning to break down.

From (Star Wars: Darth Bane: Dynasty of Evil)

DUE TO THE AFOREMENTIONED, the Sith have a lengthy history of exploring methods to cheat death:

No Caption Provided

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Encyclopedia)

However, PERPETUAL LIFE, has proven to be an impossible endgoal for any Sith throughout history due to numerous factors. This ground reality is further apparent from the FAILURE of an unsavory technique devised by the powerful Darth Drear (a member of the reconstituted ancient Sith Empire), and Darth Scabrous by extension (Star Wars: Red Harvest); this technique involved biological considerations (i.e. consumption of the still-alive heart of a Force-sensitive living being) in conjunction with Sith Alchemy (i.e. consumption of an elixir) to enable PERPETUAL LIFE but this did not work for Darth Drear and similar attempt of Darth Scabrous was foiled by a Jedi whom he sought for the needful (Star Wars: Red Harvest). On its own, the elixir caused dissolution of the tissue, and had the potential to reanimate the dead (Star Wars: Red Harvest).

In fact, PERPETUAL LIFE was not possible for extremely ancient and remarkably powerful Force-users such as The Ones either:

In the mysterious realm of Mortis there exists a trio of beings able to wield the Force in ways no known mortals of the galaxy can. The Father maintained balance between his Daughter and his Son, who expressed affinity to the light and dark side of the Force, respectively. The Father knew his days were numbered -- facing his impending demise, he needed to find another to keep the balance. His goal was the same described in an ancient Jedi prophecy -- the rise of a Chosen One who will bring balance to the Force.

From (Star Wars: The Databank: Father)

NOTE: The Ones managed a secluded form of existence on the mysterious realm of Mortis for many millennia (Star Wars: Fate of the Jedi: Apocalypse); detached from the pressures of conspiring forces of the galaxy at large, they could afford to be extremely long-lived.

Tenebrae by and large, showcased two distinct phases of IMMORTALITY during the course of his existence:

  • Extending life via Sith Sorcery.
  • Voices (body hopping) via Essence Transfer.

EXTENDING LIFE PHASE

Tenebrae (original) managed to extend his life for indefinite period through the Force energy SOURCED from a terrifying ritual that he enacted on his homeworld MEDRIAAS around 4999 BBY:

Nathema: Once known as Medriaas, Nathema was an agriworld of the Sith Empire at a time when Sith also controlled the Chorlian sector. An ancient Dark Lord of the Sith named Darth Vitiate destroyed all life on Nathema with a ritual designed to grant him immortality. A transcription of this ritual was recorded by Darth Revan and served as the inspiration for Lord Kaan's thought bomb on Ruusan.

From (Star Wars: Force and Destiny - Core Rulebook)

+

“But the ritual was not confined to the doomed Sith Lords. On that day, the Emperor was truly born.”

From (Darth Nyriss, Star Wars: The Old Republic: Revan)

+

+

The Sith Empire's exile dragged on for centuries. While the military, navy, and Sith grew strong, the Emperor amassed unfathomable power and plotted a vengeful war against the Republic. He ruled from the privacy of his chambers in the Citadel, his life extended to virtual immortality by Sith sorcery.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Encyclopedia)

LIVING UNTOUCHED BY AGE

IN CONNECTION WITH THE ABOVE, Tenebrae (The Sith Emperor) remained untouched by age for over a thousand years:

The Emperor was no longer a member of the Sith species; his power and immortality had transformed him into a being unique in the galaxy. When he spoke of life and death, it had far deeper meaning than the mere physical existence of the lesser beings that served him.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Revan)

+

There was something strange about the Emperor’s voice. It didn’t sound like the voice of a single being. It had an unusual echo and resonance, almost as if a great multitude were speaking his words in perfect symphony.

A grim theory passed unbidden through Scourge’s mind: was it possible all those that had been consumed by the ritual on Nathema still existed in some form within the Emperor himself? Nyriss said he’d devoured them, but what if she was only partially correct? What if he had imprisoned their spirits inside his own corporeal form, slowly feeding on their life energy over a thousand years to keep himself young and strong?

Burial place, prison, and reliquary, the Dark Temple was built on the orders of the Emperor to seal away powerful artifacts and the Emperor's enemies, both alive and dead. The temple became a nexus of dark side energy as the Emperor performed rituals within, drawing strength and knowledge from his captives.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Encyclopedia)

IN FULL VIEW OF THE ABOVE; many centuries later, Darth Plagueis - in his own relentless pursuit of immortality - explained what happened at the cellular level:

"Perpetual Life

A simple blood transfusion is the obvious answer, but I have found that the subject's native midi-chlorians will reject the influx of foreign cells.

The solution therefore is not to introduce new midi-chlorians but to impose one's will on the midi-chlorians already present in the subject. This can be done through the energy of pneuma. Just as warrior in peak condition can lift a heavy weight, so can someone with a sharpened mental focus and an affinity for the Force achieve a measurable effect on the living cells.

I began with experiments on scurriers and other small creatures. I used my will, amplified through my body's own midi-chlorians, to override the lesser concentrated midi-chlorian voices in the test subjects. This proved more challenging than I predicted. Because midi-chlorians are linked by a universal mind, the ones in my own cells seemed to resist this imposition on their fellows. But eventually I succeeded, first with small creatures, then with slaves purchased from the Hutts. I forced the midi-chlorians to override their natural life cycles.

What I discovered is that these midi-chlorians did not die. Instead they drew upon sustaining Force energy, which acted on a microsopic level to halt tissue decay in their host, putting an end to aging and disease."

From (Darth Plagueis, Book of Sith: Secrets from the Dark Side)

NOTE (3): Darth Drear's procedure of introducing new midi-chlorians in his body (i.e. consumption of the still-alive heart of a Force-sensitive living being) did not work, and the elixir killed him instead.

Tenebrae (original) pulled off midi-chlorian manipulation via Sith Sorcery nevertheless; an exceedingly risky route in itself (refer back to the DEVOURER OF WORLDS section above). Darth Plagueis acknowledged that Tenebrae (The Sith Emperor) came really close to accomplish what he had sought to accomplish (Star Wars: Darth Plagueis); "perpetual life."

---

Even though Tenebrae (The Sith Emperor) was surging with energies of the dark side:

As they drew closer to the throne room, Revan’s thoughts drifted back to his last confrontation with the Emperor. In all his battles, he had never faced an enemy with that kind of power. The dark side had radiated from him in palpable waves, his physical shell barely able to contain the crackling energy.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Revan)

+

The figure before him appeared unremarkable. The Emperor was clad in unadorned black robes, the raised hood effectively hiding his face. Yet Scourge could feel the power of the dark side emanating from him with such intensity that it caused a faint rippling of the air.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Revan)

- he had succeeded in making his original body IMMUNE to harmful implications of extensive dark side practices as well as to aging and disease via Sith Sorcery for indefinite period:

Servants of the Hand share their Master's longevity, living untouched by age for centuries under his command.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Encyclopedia)

Emerging threats forced him to re-evaluate his options however, and switch to a complex body hopping technique to ensure his IMMORTALITY which offered him opportunities to cheat death time-and-again; an extrapolation of the Essence Transfer application.

VOICES (BODY HOPPING) PHASE

The pneuma governs consciousness. Through this I am convinced that the energy pattern we know as self-awareness can be preserved and imprinted a second time into the neural pathways of a different brain. This process would be simplest with a cloned body that is identical to the subject's own, though in theory any advanced biological form would prove sufficient. Body swapping of this nature is riskier than simply sustaining one's own life through midi-chlorian manipulation. In dire emergency however, it could serve as an escape from oblivion.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Encyclopedia)
From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Encyclopedia)

Although 'extending life for indefinite period' was an incredible accomplishment in itself, Tenebrae (The Sith Emperor) eventually took his IMMORTALITY to another level with an extrapolation of the Essence Transfer application:

The Voice is the mouthpiece through which the Emperor delivers his orders. This possessed being sacrifices all consciousness to become a hollow vessel for the Emperor. Over the centuries, the Emperor has taken many Voices from young children to alien species. When the Voice speaks, it does so with the Emperor's cold, emotionless, and commanding tone. The Voice also wields the Emperor's incredible power and is capable of striking down anyone who displeases him. Those who converse with the Voice are overwhelmed with dread and unshakable obedience. To speak with the Voice is to speak with the Emperor himself.

The Emperor created his first Voice after the legendary Jedi named Revan attempted to assassinate him on Dromund Kaas. Though Revan's plot failed, he approached within striking distance of the Emperor. To guard against further vulnerability, the Emperor created the Voice to deliver his orders while distancing himself from the forces that conspired against him. Centuries later, this very safeguard would save the Emperor once more.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Encyclopedia)

+

For centuries, the Emperor’s Voice has delivered the Sith leader’s commandments to his servants. In fact, to converse with the Emperor’s Voice is to have an audience with the Emperor himself, whose power and consciousness have been placed within the Voice’s body. Although the audible voice never changes, the physical individual who does the speaking has assumed many forms–various accounts describe the Emperor’s Voice as anyone from a young human female to an elderly full-blooded Sith male. Regardless of physical appearance, however, the Emperor’s Voice can always be identified by its emotionless, precise and controlled manner of speaking. Some have privately described conversations with this entity as extremely disturbing; there is often the sense that the Emperor’s Voice is listening to another conversation even when he or she is speaking.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Codex Entry titled "Voice of the Emperor (Warrior).")

Also identified as Transfer Life in (Star Wars D6 Force powers); this is one of the most difficult and evil of all (dark side) applications to execute successfully:

RESISTING THE PULL OF VOID

A being of unfathomable power and insatiable appetite, he transcended death multiple times, shedding his physical shells as they were discovered, defeated, and destroyed... only to return in another form.

Tenebrae's consciousness demonstrated the ability to resist the pull of void for indefinite period through DROMUND KAAS to ZIOST after his true Voice was struck down inside the Dark Temple:

No Caption Provided

While you silenced Darth Baras, the Jedi attempted the impossible feat of destroying the Emperor. Instead, they merely defeated the Emperor's true Voice.

The unexpected blow was a shock. The Emperor's consciousness was wrenched from his Voice. He now slumbers, gathering his strength.

From (Message from Servant One of the Emperor's Hand)

THAT is not Essence Transfer.

---

The aforementioned development nevertheless show HOW Tenebrae (The Sith Emperor) could create a VOICE for himself:

The Emperor created his first Voice after the legendary Jedi named Revan attempted to assassinate him on Dromund Kaas. Though Revan's plot failed, he approached within striking distance of the Emperor. To guard against further vulnerability, the Emperor created the Voice to deliver his orders while distancing himself from the forces that conspired against him. Centuries later, this very safeguard would save the Emperor once more.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Encyclopedia)

- by possessing another living being and/or overcoming consciousness of the subject in the process if need be.

This is incredibly difficult and risky development however; more-so than extending life via midi-chlorian manipulation as noted by Darth Plagueis ("Body swapping of this nature is riskier than simply sustaining one's own life through midi-chlorian manipulation. In dire emergency however, it could serve as an escape from oblivion.").

---

Tenebrae's consciousness emerged from the bisected body (making itself VISIBLE) and proceeded to breach the Dark Temple in order to make its way to YAVIN 4; a clear display of manipulating the physical environment in this capacity. This is also a remarkable display of power for Tenebrae in this capacity given the fact that his STRENGTH had almost diminished at this point. Breaching the Dark Temple is a FEAT that even some of the most powerful Force-users could not manage while actively trying; each wall was several meters thick which is uncommon for structures throughout history.

The Dark Temple would not be the tether for Tenebrae's consciousness because it would not be able to breach the massive structure and make its way to another planet (i.e. YAVIN 4) as was the case with other Sith spirits haunting the massive structure.

As a reminder;

Tenebrae's consciousness - when stronger than before - could literally FOLD SPACE to move from one planet to another as apparent from its move from YAVIN 4 to ZIOST:

Considering so much was out of control, I'd say we did alright...

...but Vitiate is stronger now. Sith Intelligence is in complete disarray. It's all coming apart."

"Especially after Ziost, putting an end to Vitiate's threat seems like an impossible task. I don't believe it truly is impossible. Even if it is were, we have to try."

From (Lana Beniko, Star Wars: The Old Republic: Rise of the Emperor)

GALACTIC MENACE

The Emperor hungers. If restored, he would attempt to consume all life in the galaxy, and I am certain he would succeed. No one, not Revan, not the Jedi, not you, not me would be able to stop him.

From (Darth Marr, Star Wars: The Old Republic: Shadow of Revan)

After consuming ZIOST, Tenebrae (Vitiate) no longer needed physical shells such as Voices, Hands, and Children to do his bidding:

Voices... Hands... Children... I no longer require those crude vessels. At long last I am truly free.

From (Valkorion, Star Wars: The Old Republic: Knights of the Fallen Empire: Chapter 2)

The aforementioned revelation have much significance because Tenebrae (Vitiate) now had the CAPACITY to do everything he wanted to by himself including executing his galaxy-consuming ritual but he had a change of heart:

The ritual wasn't that complex. Valkorion was simply working multiple fuel angles at once. The Hero of Tython disrupted the entire ritual and forced the Emperor to halt the Eternal Fleet rampage, at which point he had to re-evaluate his plans.

From (Mr. Hall Hood - contributor to the BioWare's SWTOR project)

+

Lemme tell ya, of all the whoppers you've been told by Valkorion and his agents, the one about the [Hero of Tython] only killing the Voice is the biggest. The Emperor was all but destroyed by the Hero of Tython on Dromund Kaas. That's why he needed to be "reborn" by consuming all life on Ziost. Bringing himself back from the brink is what changed Vitiate's thinking from "destroy everything" to "force order on the galaxy."

From (Mr. Hall Hood - contributor to the BioWare's SWTOR project)

NOTE: Evidence in the following LINK.

The Emperor's Wrath II actually experienced a powerful vision of a POTENTIAL FUTURE of the galaxy at large at the time of the events of Shadow of Revan in which Tenebrae (Vitiate) had succeeded in consuming it:

NOTE: The physical appearance of the Emperor's Wrath II in the footage is SUBJECTIVE and not to be taken at face value.

But Tenebrae (Vitiate) had other plans now:

The events of Shadow of Revan give him the boost he needs to become active again – and he does so in spectacular fashion on Ziost, all while playing up his “evil destroyer of everything” Vitiate persona to the max. He’s greatly reinvigorated, he’s dealt a significant blow to the Sith Empire (which had been rapidly increasing in strength after Rise of the Hutt Cartel), and he’s baited the player and their allies in one fell swoop. All of which leads inexorably to the confrontation in the throne room in the beginning of KOTFE – but why?

For this, we just have to look at the last person who ever stood up to Vitiate at anywhere near the level that the player’s character did on Ziost: Revan. When Revan took a crack at him, Vitiate locked him up for centuries, picking and prodding at his mind the entire time. So we know that Tenebrae/Vitiate/Valkorion doesn’t destroy people who are a legitimate threat to him; he’s fascinated by them. He entraps them, studies them, manipulates them, and corrupts them. (He did it to Vaylin, too! And Dramath!)

So, to review: Valkorion has been revitalized; he’s got a tremendously powerful fleet; he’s got the Republic in the weakest state it’s been since the treaty of Coruscant and the Sith Empire not far behind; he’s discovered a new threat that can actually take a shot at him; and he’s got a wife who’s left him and children that he finds deeply disappointing (see pretty much any time he ever deigns to speak to them) in line to take over his supposedly perfect society. Time to solve all of his problems at once!

He spurs his son’s bloodlust and ambition by setting him and the fleet loose on the galaxy (now that they’re definitely in no state to resist the fleet’s power or endanger Zakuul). He lures his new enemy into a trap and captures them. He arranges his own “death”, whether by the player’s hand or Arcann’s, and invades the player’s mind. Arcann and Vaylin do exactly what he expects, which is to generally muck up the galaxy and establish themselves as tyrants in need of overthrowing. And then he arranges and guides the player in doing just that, all the while laying the groundwork for dominating their mind at the moment of their victory and commanding a newly-reshaped galaxy as a heroic liberator – an all-new experience to try out. Too bad it didn’t work out for him.

COMBAT PROWESS

"You stand there because I allow it. Because I do not fear." - Tenebrae (The Sith Emperor)

1) Tenebrae (original) was just a child when he seized control of his homeworld MEDRIAAS and became its ruler.

As a reminder;

The aforementioned development (conquest of homeworld) occurred in following manner:

Tenebrae manifested his incredible Force powers at the age of six. His dark gift marked Tenebrae for a place of power in the Empire - but it also revealed his mother's betrayal. She tearfully confessed to her husband that Tenebrae was born from her infidelity with the Sith ruler of their homeworld. Enraged by this betrayal, Tenebrae's father attacked his unfaithful wife. Awash in his father's fury, Tenebrae awakened the full extent of his power. Tenebrae took his parents' lives as he honed his talent with the dark side of the Force.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Encyclopedia)

-----

By the age of ten, Tenebrae was feared across Mediraas as the entire northern continent fell under his sway. Sith Lord Dramath, planetary governor of Mediraas, set out to bring the boy in line. Tenebrae broke Lord Dramath's mind, but not before revealing that he was actually his son.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Encyclopedia)

+

Lord Dramath intended to judge the child’s power to determine if he was worthy of serving the Sith Lord, or if he should simply be executed. But Tenebrae had no intention of serving—or of dying. When they met face-to-face, Tenebrae proved the stronger. Only ten years old, he stripped his father of his power and his mind.

From (Darth Nyriss, Star Wars: The Old Republic: Revan)

-----

It took Tenebrae three more years to gain control of the rest of Nathema. Dramath's firstborn son fled rather than face his formidable half brother, but other powerful Sith sought to seize the empty throne. All fell before the dark prodigy, and with each victory he grew more powerful and more ruthless.

From (Darth Nyriss, Star Wars: The Old Republic: Revan)

-----

With all of Mediraas under his power, Tenebrae traveled to Korriban and met Sith Lord Marka Ragnos, ruler of all Sith. Marka Ragnos recognized Tenebrae's incredible power and named the boy Lord Vitiate.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Encyclopedia)

2) Tenebrae (The Sith Emperor) could overwhelm MULTIPLE opposing Force-users in a confrontation. Examples provided below.

EXAMPLE (1) - Tenebrae (The Sith Emperor) employed a powerful but mysterious technique to overwhelm a rebellious Dark Council from a distance (Sith Sorcery implied):

During a violent tempest, Darth Lokess called a secret meeting of her eleven fellow Dark Council members. Under the cover of night, the Dark Council met and heard Darth Lokess describe a brilliant and daring plan to overthrow the Sith Emperor, end his relentless exile, and lead the Empire back to war against the Republic. An army of Sith under the command of Darth Lokess were stationed outside the meeting, ready to slay any Dark Council member who refused. But they all agreed to depose the Emperor.

It remains a mystery how the Emperor learned of his council's treachery. He allowed their plan to play out, but when they gathered to confront the Emperor, his punishment was swift and devastating. Eleven members of the Dark Council died in a sudden flash on the steps of the Citadel. The last member Darth Lokess, disappeared forever, though for some centuries some claimed her screams could be heard from the bowels of the Citadel.

A new council was immediately appointed to replace the traitors. The Emperor had made his point: his will was absolute, and none would oppose him. And though this was not the last time the council would defy the Emperor, his lesson would humble the Empire and its Sith leaders for centuries to come.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Encyclopedia)

NOTE: At any point in time, members of the Dark Council are counted among the most powerful Sith in the galaxy on average:

While the undying Emperor serves as the unquestioned leader of the Empire, the twelve members of the Dark Council oversee the daily workings of their vast civilization and speak in the Emperor’s name. Each is among the most powerful Sith in the galaxy; to hold a seat on the council is the highest honor and the greatest position of influence a Sith can attain.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Codex Entry titled "The Dark Council.")

Revan - one of the history's most powerful Force-users - who was able to dismiss a member of the Dark Council Darth Nyriss with his raw power in a short span, felt that it was IMPRACTICAL to take on an entire Dark Council and hope to prevail (see EXAMPLE (3) below).

EXAMPLE (2) - Tenebrae (The Sith Emperor) subdued the duo of legendary warriors Revan and Malak with barely an effort:

Over 300 years ago, the great Jedi heroes Revan and Malak stumbled upon long-hidden Sith Empire's capital of Dromund Kaas, and its ruler - a mysterious, almost godlike avatar of the dark side. They argued briefly over whether to alert the Republic and Jedi Council, but Revan was already too consumed by arrogance and anger to consider the possibility of defeat. By the time Revan and Malak approached the Emperor in his throne room, they were already at the precipice of the dark side. It took only a fraction of the Emperor's loathsome power to complete their fall. The Jedi succumbed utterly to the Sith leader's domination and returned to the Republic to spark a new conflict: the Jedi Civil War.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Encyclopedia)

+

The legendary Jedi Revan and Malak confront the Sith Emperor in his throne room on Dromund Kaas. In mere moments, the Jedi lay defeated and consumed by the dark side of the Force.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Encyclopedia)

+

Realizing this Empire was the true threat to the Republic, Revan and Malak faced the Sith Emperor himself, intending to cut off the serpent's head--but the Emperor was too powerful. Overwhelmed by the Emperor's dark presence, they pledged themselves to his service.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Codex Entry titled "Galactic History 74: Revan and Malak Fall.")

NOTE: Revan and Malak are counted among the history's most powerful Force-users:

Some of history's most powerful Force-users trained in the halls of the Jedi Enclave on Dantooine. Only students with great potential were admitted, and while the rigorous training produced exceptional Jedi, the fall of several notable students to the dark side cast a pall on the institution's legacy. Exar Kun, Darth Revan, and Darth Malak all trained at the enclave on Dantooine.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Knights of the Eternal Throne: Codex Entry titled "Jedi Enclave Ruins.")

EXAMPLE (3) - Tenebrae (The Sith Emperor) summoned 9 members of another rebellious Dark Council to his throne room and eliminated them all by himself; Lord Scourge learned about this development and broke the news to his Jedi allies:

“What did you find out?” Meetra asked as Revan extended a hand to help her up.

“It wasn’t just Nyriss who was attacked. The Emperor killed them all.”

“The files you showed me listed five current members of the Dark Council plotting against him,” Meetra said, looking to clarify. “Are you saying the Emperor’s Guard wiped out all five in the space of a single day?”

“I said he killed them all,” Scourge replied. “All twelve members of the Dark Council—even those who weren’t part of the conspiracy. He wanted to send a message no one would ever forget.”

“How is that possible?” Revan asked. “He attacked a dozen of the most powerful Sith Lords in their seats of power simultaneously? How many troops does he have?”

“The Imperial Guard were only unleashed on Nyriss and two others. The Emperor must have assumed they were the ones least likely to answer his summons. The other nine were called together in the hours before the attack to meet with the Emperor at his citadel. None of them left alive.”

“So what’s happening now?” Meetra asked.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Revan)

EXAMPLE (4) - Tenebrae (The Sith Emperor) was absolutely capable of defeating the COALITION of Revan*, Meetra (the legendary Jedi Exile) and Lord Scourge in single combat, but this confrontation did not materialize:

The Emperor’s power is too much for Revan. Recognizing that the Emperor is undefeatable, Scourge kills Meetra and betrays Revan.

From (Star Wars: The Essential Reader's Companion)

+

Scourge had eagerly accepted, knowing his new position would give him both time and opportunity to find another way to stop Emperor Vitiate before his madness and hunger consumed the galaxy.

"Open yourself to the dark side," the Emperor said, and Scourge felt the air around him begin to swirl with power.

Betraying his allies had not altered the inevitable outcome; the Emperor would have won regardless. At least this way Scourge was still alive to carry on their cause.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Revan)

Potential outcome of the aforementioned battle in one of the visions of Lord Scourge:

Revan lay motionless on the floor of the Citadel’s throne room. Meetra and Scourge lay beside him, their bodies twisted and broken, clinging to the last moments of life.

The Emperor approached the trio, regarding them with a cold and casual contempt as he loomed above his fallen adversaries. Scourge tried to stand and flee, but his crippled limbs wouldn’t support his weight. All he could do was crawl on his belly like a worm.

His efforts drew the attention of the Emperor, who didn’t speak but came over and lowered himself to one knee. He grabbed Scourge by the shoulder and rolled him over so he was staring up into the twin voids of the Emperor’s eyes.

As he reached out a hand and placed it on Scourge’s forehead, the Sith began to scream.

From (Lord Scourge's vision, Star Wars: The Old Republic: Revan)

*Recognized as the most powerful member of the Jedi Order and also counted among history's most powerful Force-users respectively:

EXAMPLE (5) - Tenebrae (The Sith Emperor) overwhelmed Lightsaber-facilitated defenses of some of the most powerful and resolute Jedi of the Order with a swirling storm of lightning bolts:

With Grand Master Satele Shan's support, Master Braga assembles a strike team of the strongest and most resolute Jedi in the order. Their goal is to pinpoint the Emperor's hidden fortress, capture the Sith leader alive, and turn him to the light side. Jedi Knights Warren Sedoru and Leeha Narezz were virtually immobilized and unable to advance early on. Jedi Master Tol Braga and the legendary Jedi Knight (alias Hero of Tython) were offering substantial resistance and doing their best to contain Valkorion's power. Each was capable of taking on and defeating multiple opponents in a fight without breaking a sweat in personal capacity but ALL were dealing with too much firepower in this case.

When up against Tenebrae (The Sith Emperor), Lightsaber-facilitated defenses were not sufficient either. After disarming all Jedi, he unleashed an esoteric blast of Force Lightning to seal the deal:

The plan to invade the Emperor's fortress succeeds beyond Master Braga's greatest ambitions. However, the Jedi find more than they bargained for when they finally confront the Sith leader in his lair. The Emperor is more than a man - he is the living embodiment of the dark side. Armed with incalculable powers of corruption, the Emperor easily defeats the Knight, Master Braga, and their fellow Jedi, twisting them all to the dark side.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Encyclopeda)

EXAMPLE (6) - Using the body of The Outlander as a conduit, Tenebrae (Valkorion) unleashed an esoteric wave of dark side energy which affected different targets in a different way; it stripped the Knight of Zakuul of his/her life and disintegrated the mechanical Skytrooper while touching each. It also produced a telekinetic effect by knocking down barriers planted by the Knights of Zakuul beforehand.

No Caption Provided

BACKGROUND:

Knights of Zakuul were well-trained Force-users on average and adherents to the limitless power philosophy which encouraged sharing of knowledge and did not restrict them in regards to what they are supposed to learn:

Zakuul Knights don't limit themselves to studying one side of the Force, instead teaching balance and exploration. Knights have their own relationships with the Force, but are encouraged to share their findings with the rest of the order. No area is deemed "weak" or "a dangerous path"--they are all parts of a larger, limitless power.

From Star Wars: The Old Republic: Knights of the Fallen Empire: Codex Entry titled "Knights of Zakuul.")

That is why the Jedi and/or Sith were unable to overcome of the Knights of Zakuul in numerous battlefields during The Eternal War (confirmed by Satele Shan and Darth Marr respectively); the Jedi tend to restrict themselves to ways of the Light whereas the Sith undermine each other with infighting.

The Outlander and his/her allies such as Sith Lord Lana Beniko and Senya Tirall (herself one of the most powerful members of the Knights of Zakuul), were collectively formidable enough to LIFT the massive Gravestone superweapon while it was entrenched many meters below the surface, and each was capable of taking on and defeating multiple opponents in a fight without breaking a sweat in personal capacity. It would take a much formidable force to handle this TRIO in a confrontation therefore. They were on the brink of being overwhelmed by sheer skill and numbers of the Knights of Zakuul on the other hand. About a dozen Knights of Zakuul were involved in addition to numerous droids and some mechanized Walkers in the mix. Tenebrae (Valkorion) ONE-SHOTTED them all however.

MULTI-TASKING ON A MONUMENTAL LEVEL

"The Dread Masters changed Oricon. Even their combined power is insignificant compared to the Emperor."

From (Emperor's Wrath II, Star Wars: The Old Republic: Shadow of Revan)

Tenebrae by and large, demonstrated the ability to multi-task on a monumental level over a lengthy period of time. Some examples provided below.

[1] Tenebrae (The Sith Emperor) prevented ECOLOGICAL RECOVERY of the post-apocalypse MEDRIAAS for over 1300 years while attending to other (demanding) set-of-activities and galactic affairs irrespective of where he would be physically present on any given moment - a MANIPULATION CONSTANT on his part:

This reality sheds new light on how to gauge Tenebrae's powers.

Example 1 - CROSS-PLANETARY MANIPULATION

In conjunction with [1], Tenebrae (The Sith Emperor) was able to transform another planet DROMUND KAAS in his image (refer back to the THE EMBODIMENT OF THE DARK SIDE section above).

Example 2 - MULTI-TASKING with pneuma across the GALAXY

In conjunction with [1], Tenebrae (The Sith Emperor) used his immense power in the dark side of the Force to expand his footprint across the galaxy by creating his powerbase (a network of agents linked to him in different ways who served as extensions of his SENSES (sight and hearing) in distant locations, and did his bidding upon his command). Tenebrae (The Sith Emperor) also possessed other living beings and utilized many as his Voice(s) from time-to-time, and could also enhance COMBAT PROWESS of his Imperial Guards when stationed near to him. This showing implies simultaneous application of numerous Force powers (or techniques) at a certain point in time including Essence Transfer, Imprinting Consciousness, Force-bond and Mind Control.

In short;

THE EMPEROR fears only death. It was this dread that inspired the Emperor to possess beings to serve as the Voice and the Hand, the former to speak his will and the latter to serve as conduits through which he could control his Empire. To extend his reach and sight, the Emperor created his Children through which he could see and act on whim. For those who displeased him, the Emperor shaped the Wrath - the ultimate executioner, who lived only to strike down enemies of the Emperor and humble the galaxy. Finally, he forged the Imperial Guard as an army of devoted warriors, tasked with overwhelming the Emperor's foes and protecting his domain. With this power base, the Emperor seeks to shield himself from the dangers of mortality and make the galaxy before him.

Example 3 - MULTI-TASKING with Force powers on ZIOST

In conjunction with [1], Tenebrae (Vitiate) was making use of his immense power in the dark side of the Force to possess all manner of living beings and create CONFLICT across ZIOST in order to feed on resultant deaths by his unwitting pawns (multitasking with Telepathy and Drain Life Essence implied), and as his strength continued to increase due to each death, he began to conjure nigh-omnipotent beings of pure dark side energy across the world to facilitate his agenda (Sith Sorcery implied - another addition in the ongoing multitasking effort of dark side abilities to the benefit of the wielder). He also used one particular Force-user Jedi Master Surro to challenge key protagonists who were attempting to evacuate inhabitants of the planet at the time.

DARK SCIENCES

Tenebrae by and large, was incredibly proficient in the matters of Sith Alchemy and Dark Sciences. His exploits in relation are listed below.

PERVERTING A SITH HOLOCRON

Tenebrae (original) - when only 10 years old - was able to twist and pervert a Sith holocron into a superweapon of sorts that could be utilized to capture or obliterate spirits of the Sith and the Jedi and even entities:

All holocrons are based on a complex yet elegant technology: a lattice of organic crystals woven together at a microscopic level. The crystal lattice can store vast amounts of information, as well as replicate the appearance and personality of the holocron's creator as a gatekeeper who will guide students in their training.

In his youth, Valkorion--then known as Tenebrae--discovered a way to twist and pervert the lattice so it could capture the spirit of powerful Force users, locking them in a metaphysical cage. He used the weapon on Dramath, his tyrannical father, and trapped him inside the holocron for centuries.

But the same corrupted technology Valkorion used to vanquish his father could also be turned against him, permanently imprisoning his immortal spirit... or obliterating it from existence.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Codex Entry titled "Dramath's Holocron.")

Tenebrae (original) used the perverted Sith holocron to imprison the Sith spirit of Lord Dramath:

Ten years later, the Sith Lord heard rumors of a child gathering power in the northern continent, but did not personally investigate until his envoys failed to return. After days of travel, Dramath reached the source of the rumors only to face his illegitimate son, Tenebrae, the future Sith Emperor and immortal ruler of Zakuul. That day, Tenebrae removed his father's connection to the Force and imprisoned him within a powerful holocron, leaving Dramath alone to wither slowly into madness over an eternity.

Associated footage below:

As a reminder;

Tenebrae (original) demonstrated incredible command of the Force and promise in the matters of Dark Sciences in natural capacity since he was able to twist and pervert a Sith holocron when he was just a child; this feat suggest realignment of the matrics at a microscopic level which is only possible through precise and exhausting application of the Force:

Scholars know that a holocron is a box of crystalline lattices, which are capable of housing near-infinite amounts of priceless data. These matrices can be aligned only through precise and exhausting application of the Force. A completed holocron can be accessed only by another Force-user. To navigate a holocron's secrets, one must speak to its gatekeeper - a holographic echo of the device's builder that retains a measure of the builder's spirit. Constructing a holocron can take months, and a single misstep can collapse the device into dust.

SITHSPAWN

Tenebrae (The Sith Emperor) showed much promise in Sith Alchemy by creating a deadly Sithspawn (i.e. Akure).

While some Sithspawns are forged in great numbers, others are created as singular abominations. One such dark side manifestation was birthed centuries ago by the Sith Emperor. Known as Akure, the Beast of Darkness, this Sithspawn rules the deep carverns of Dromund Kaas and kills all who try to end its existence.

For hundreds of years, Dromund Kaas has been cloaked in an impenetrable night and thrashing storms supposedly caused by the power of the Emperor himself. But these are merely the most conspicuous manifestations of his legendary influence on the Imperial homeworld. Deep in the bowels of Dromund Kaas, another manifestation has been growing–a creature born far underground, a Sithspawn that has supped on the dark side for decades. For now, the beast remains lurking in the darkness, but its hunger is eternal and it is always, always growing.

ARCANE DEVICES

Tenebrae (The Sith Emperor) proved his mettle in Dark Sciences by creating arcane devices which could be used to prolong the life of his subjects for indefinite period.

Example 1 - Infernal Machinery in the Emperor's private chamber in the Citadel (Kaas City)

“THE RITUAL IS ABOUT TO BEGIN,” the Emperor intoned.

Scourge nodded, though even if he had wanted to refuse it was far too late now.

He was standing in the center of a cylindrical metal platform roughly two meters across. Dozens of wires and IV tubes had been hooked to his body. The wires were connected to several generators arranged in a circle around the platform, the IV tubes ran to clear vats filled with a strange green bubbling liquid.

They were still inside the citadel, but this private chamber was much smaller than the throne room. It was unfurnished and, apart from the Emperor, Scourge, and the infernal machinery he was hooked up to, completely empty.

In the wake of Revan’s defeat, the Emperor hadn’t made him a member of the Dark Council after all. Instead, he had created a new position for Scourge: the Emperor’s Wrath.

The Emperor had believed his explanation about Revan. As a reward Scourge was to become his personal enforcer and executioner, taking his orders directly from the Emperor and answering to no one but him.

That wasn’t the full extent of his reward, however. For his role in exposing Xedrix, Nyriss, and Revan, the Emperor had promised to grant Scourge the gift of eternal life. He would forever serve at the Emperor’s side, an honor far greater than even that of being selected for the Dark Council.

Scourge had eagerly accepted, knowing his new position would give him both time and opportunity to find another way to stop the Emperor before his madness and hunger consumed the galaxy.

“Open yourself to the dark side,” the Emperor said, and Scourge felt the air around him begin to swirl with power.

Betraying his allies had not altered the inevitable outcome; the Emperor would have won regardless. At least this way Scourge was still alive to carry on their cause.

Revan was still alive, too, but he was as good as dead to Scourge. The Emperor was holding him prisoner in a secret facility, and Scourge knew he could never risk trying to find its location. He couldn’t do anything that might suggest an ongoing connection between him and Revan. Doing so would expose the truth to the Emperor, making his sacrifice of the Jedi pointless.

“Let the spark of eternal life ignite within you!” the Emperor called out.

Scourge felt a sharp burst of heat in his chest. He gritted his teeth in pain as the heat grew more intense.

He felt no guilt or remorse over what he had done. He knew the Jedi would never have chosen this path, of course. They would have felt the price of betrayal was too high.

Scourge knew they were wrong. There was no sense in throwing his life away with theirs. Betrayal was the cost of stopping the Emperor, and he alone had been willing to pay it.

Revan had been right about one thing, however: the attack had made the Emperor step back from his plans to invade the Republic. Instead of looking beyond the borders of the Sith Empire, he had turned his attention inward, focusing on restoring stability and control over Dromund Kaas and the other worlds he ruled.

The Dark Council would have to be rebuilt. It was inevitable there would be infighting and high turnover in the first few years as the new members vied with one another to curry favor with the Emperor. And he, in turn, would keep a close eye on the actions of the Council until the plots and schemes returned to a more normal and expected level.

It would be several decades, maybe longer, before the Emperor revisited the idea of invading the Republic. In that time, much could happen.

Revan had spoken of another champion who would rise; Scourge had seen that champion in his final vision. Blessed with eternal life, Scourge would serve faithfully at the Emperor’s side, biding his time as he waited for that champion to emerge from the mists of time.

While serving, he would study the Emperor. He would learn everything about him. He would come to understand his strengths and weaknesses so that when the time came, he could help Revan’s prophesied champion destroy the Emperor once and for all.

“Feel your mortality as it is stripped away.”

Scourge screamed as invisible claws tore at his insides, seemingly shredding his vital organs.

The heat in his chest had spread to the rest of his body; it felt as if his blood were made of fire. The agony became unbearable, and he shrieked and collapsed to the floor.

“The ritual cannot be undone,” the Emperor said as Scourge writhed and wept at his feet.

Through his torment, Scourge realized with dawning horror what the Emperor was saying. The ritual was over, but the searing heat and the rending of his insides continued unabated.

Focusing his will, he managed to still the convulsions racking his body. He forced himself to his knees, though every movement seemed to amplify the pain. Trembling, he rose to his feet and addressed the Emperor.

“How long will this anguish last?” he asked, his jaw clenched.

“As time passes you will learn to accept and endure your suffering,” the Emperor answered. “Your mind and body will find ways to deal with the pain. After many months you will become accustomed enough to it to function in your role as the Emperor’s Wrath. Eventually you will simply become numb, unable to feel anything at all.”

“Why?” Scourge asked, his voice something between a sob and a moan.

“Everything has a cost,” the Emperor explained. “This is the price of immortality.”

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Revan)

The aforementioned ritual notwithstanding, Tenebrae (The Sith Emperor) could use his dark side powers to prolong the life of a subject as well:

Lord Scourge has dutifully served the Empire for over three hundred years, his life unnaturally prolonged by perverse technology and his master's dark side powers.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Codex Entry titled "Lord Scourge.")

Example 2 - Revan's Cell in the Maelstrom Prison

REVAN’S CELL WAS AS MUCH LABORATORY AS PRISON. Trapped in a suspended cage of shimmering power, he hovered somewhere between life and death. His paralyzed body was in some kind of stasis, preserved and protected so that even time itself could not touch him. But his consciousness was fully aware.

Meetra could sense his suffering. When she had died, she had not become one with the Force. Loyal to the end, her spirit had remained with Revan, an invisible presence hovering just outside his cell.

She couldn’t speak with him; whatever arcane Sith sorcery the Emperor had used to bind Revan in his cell made that impossible. She doubted Revan was even aware she was there. Yet even though she couldn’t communicate with him, she was able to offer aid and support, her power trickling through the energy barrier that surrounded him, a lifeline he could cling to in the dark ocean of his imprisonment.

As the Emperor fed off him, Meetra was allowing Revan to feed off her. Her sustenance strengthened his resolve whenever he grew weak, refreshing and restoring him so he could continue his never-ending mental war.

Because of her, Revan was able to do more than just fight to keep the Emperor at bay.

To clarify the aforementioned development:

1. Tenebrae (The Sith Emperor) bind Revan (Reborn) to THAT cell via Sith Sorcery:

She couldn’t speak with him; whatever arcane Sith sorcery the Emperor had used to bind Revan in his cell made that impossible. She doubted Revan was even aware she was there.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Revan)

2. Tenebrae (The Sith Emperor) extended the life of Revan (Reborn) in THAT cell via Sith Alchemy:

"I lost everyone...betrayed from within. The Emperor imprisoned me, kept me alive with Sith alchemy...used me."

From (Revan, Star Wars: The Old Republic: Maelstrom Prison Flashpoint)

Therefore, a combination of both kind of dark practices were in effect to restrain Revan (Reborn) like that; binding Revan (Reborn) to THAT cell via Sith Sorcery make absolute sense in view of his raw power because it would be impractical to restrain him like that for indefinite period otherwise.

BALANCE OF THE FORCE:

The Force have two notable aspects (Living and Cosmic):

No Caption Provided

The Living Force is generated by the energy of all living beings in the galaxy. This aspect of the Force is also the major source of Jedi and Sith powers as well as that of other factions. The Living Force ultimately passes into the Cosmic Force which transcends normal perceptions of time and space (this is the aspect of the Force which is alluded to have a WILL of its own). If powerful Force-users partake in unholy practices, their actions are very likely to produce cosmic effects. It is due to this reason why the balance of the Force have shifted between the Light and Dark through the ages, and not only in the era of Darth Plagueis and Palpatine.

Force-users influence the balance of the Force more then anything else:

More than any others, it is the Force-sensitive beings of the galaxy who have the greatest influence upon the balance of the Force.

From (Star Wars: Force and Destiny: Core Rulebook)

The balance of the Force would continue to shift due to struggles for supremacy between adherents of the Light and Dark respectively:

For this reason, some believe that the Jedi and Sith must share an ultimately common origin, and their creation in the distant past embodies the opposition between the light and dark sides. As their relative power has increased or diminished over the centuries, it has only reinforced another deeply held belief about the Force: that it has a balance, and that this balance can shift over time.

The Force was omnipresent. It radiated stronger in certain places and at certain times, and the balance of the dark side and the light constantly shifted.

Tenebrae (original) created a VOID in the fabric of the Cosmic Force around planet Medriaas by virtue of his terrifying ritual on its surface back in 4999 BBY:

He felt the first hints of what was waiting for him when the shuttle dropped out of hyperspace. Through the windows of the cockpit he saw a gray-and-brown planet looming large before them. Gazing at it, he felt something strange and unsettling. Something unnatural.

It took him several moments to realize what was wrong, and even when he did, he didn’t fully grasp the implications. He wasn’t feeling the Force.

The sensation was completely alien. The Force was omnipresent. It radiated stronger in certain places and at certain times, and the balance of the dark side and the light constantly shifted. But it was always there in some way, shape, or form.

Now, however, he felt nothing. He had become so accustomed to the presence of the Force in the background that its complete absence was almost overwhelming, leaving him unable to speak.

“Prepare yourself,” Nyriss said. “We’re going down to the surface.”

The absence grew steadily more pronounced as the shuttle approached and then landed on Nathema.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Revan)

- and this development produced significant cosmic effects:

Lord Vitiate orchestrated the sorcery and the planet Mediraas was consumed by the largest dark side nexus the galaxy would ever see.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Encyclopedia)

Centuries later, Revan singled out Tenebrae (The Sith Emperor) as the FOREMOST source of imbalance in his time, and postulated that champions of light will continue to emerge to oppose him until he is defeated:

“The Force always strives for balance. The Emperor is an agent of darkness and destruction. It is inevitable that a champion of the light will one day rise to oppose him. I may be that champion.”

From (Revan, Star Wars: The Old Republic: Revan)

Tenebrae prevented HEALING of the VOID in the fabric of the Cosmic Force around planet Medriaas for over 1300 years while partaking in other (demanding) set-of-activities irrespective of his location:

Tenebrae (The Sith Emperor) siphoned the life-force of many individuals during his span of existence, affecting development of the Living Force through such individuals and also their ability to use the Force by extension.

The Force consists of two related, but distinct, elements: the Living Force and the Cosmic Force. The Living Force is generated by the energy of living beings throughout the galaxy. This is the Force at its most immediate and instinctive level. It is this aspect of the Force that allows for many of the impressive abilities that have fueled the aura of legend around the Jedi and Sith, and that still excites the galaxy's imagination. The ability to trick the minds of other beings, to sense their presence, and to manipulate physical objects all come from the Living Force.
