  • Ray Palmer was a genius scientist heading the "Small Wonder" project at S.T.A.R. Labs. The project was to create a method of reducing objects in size using dwarf star matter, with Palmer managing to work the matter into a lens using technology from Brainiac's crashed skull ship. After learning that his colleague planned to sell the powerful tech to criminals, Palmer stole the lens for himself. After contemplating what to do with the powerful tech and being inspired by one of the superheroes of his youth, Al Pratt, Palmer fashioned the lens into a belt and set out to stop the very people the tech was going to end up with.

  • A black knight of the Checkmate agency, David Clinton was tasked with researching time-travel after their scientists had reported large time-rifts. When studying a time-rift which had appeared in Ivy Town, Clinton was physically torn from his place and placed into time-itself. Clinton spent years residing in time, unable to escape and slipping into insanity. After 10 years of mental torture, Clinton was placed back into the world through a new time-rift. Now possessing great time-altering powers and having lost his sanity, Clinton seeks to get back those 10 lost years of his life as the insane Chronos.

  • Madly in love with Ryan Choi, Doris Zuel is a doctor in training in Ivy Town. After Choi redesigns Ray Palmer's tech for their use in the bedroom, Zuel is able to grow to great heights. However, she gets more unstable every-time she uses the belt. After Ryan is killed by Lady Chronos, Doris blames Wonder Woman for not keeping her in custody and goes on a violent quest of vengeance. Chronos, now insane and looking for someone to aid him in his quest, allies himself with Zuel in her fight against Wonder Woman and the Atom...

  • Wonder Woman was originally travelling to Ivy Town to offer Ray Palmer a place on the Justice League but after a threat arises that could break time itself, Diana is forced to work with Atom sooner than she thought.

  • Jia Donev was formerly Ryan Choi's girlfriend before she was revealed to be a serial-killer who had plotted Choi's own death. Donev was apprehended by Wonder Woman but escaped custody during the mass breakout at Belle Reve. Donev then returns to Ivy Town to try and kill her former lover. Killing Choi, Jia is then found by Chronos whom she soon falls in love with, becoming Lady Chronos. However, Chronos is now allied with Doris Zuel, Ryan's lover and Zuel wants Jia's head...

  • Ryan Choi is Ray Palmer's lab assistant and the boyfriend of Doris Zuel. Choi was extremely competitive with Sylbert Rundine for the attention of Ray Palmer. Ryan redesigns Palmer's tech so that instead of shrinking, the wearer grows to great heights instead. Choi gives this to Doris for their use in the bedroom but is unaware that each time Doris uses it, she becomes more unstable. Choi is later murdered by his former girlfriend, Jia Donev after Palmer reveals himself as the Atom to him and gives him a test run in his suit.

  • [Seen only before he leaves the country] Sylbert Rundine was a young genius scientist working on the "Small Wonder" project at S.T.A.R. Labs under Dr. Ray Palmer and the boyfriend of Ronnie Sweet. However, Rundine was not entirely mentally sane and many of his colleagues felt that he should be removed from the program. Palmer eventually dropped Rundine from the project which left Sylbert bitter and violent. Deciding to destroy everything Palmer had worked for, Rundine broke into the labs and stole the lens. Planning to sell the powerful tech to terrorists, Rundine was confronted by Palmer which resulted in a fist fight. Palmer managed to steal the lens back and Rundine was left defeated. Filled with hate of Palmer for ruining his life, Rundine has left the country to train with the League of Assassins...
