My Reinventions Of DC Villains

Tom King recently reinvented Kite Man, so I thought I'd like to see DC have a crack at these rogues. Some of my ideas are a bit stupid and my ideas for Ten-Eyed Man, Penny Plunderer, Blue Snowman and a few others don't make much sense, but this was just for me to get my ideas down and not for setting stone ideas. I would have included Kite-Man, as I had ideas of my own, but he was recently reinvented by Tom King anyway

List items

  • Make him a shady but incredibly intelligent industrialist, who's company (Called I.Q.) is quickly rising through the ranks as other companies are forced to close or be bought by I.Q. He becomes a corporate rival of Lex Luthor, and the 2 even go as far as trying to assassinate each other. I.Q.'s main offices are located in Midway city, and the suspicious appearance and rising of this company attracts the attention of The Hawks. Quimby gains his intelligence from an alien rock he took from an alien ship his company had acquired. He has to "top-up" every week from the rock. Also, every time he uses the rock, he loses a bit of his sanity which leads him to believe he can destroy the Justice League and make the world follow his every will

  • Have a company shut his diner down due to health issues and he tries to take revenge on them by adopting the persona of "The Condiment King". Sure, he's still a loser and the revenge plot is run-of-the-mill, but I'd like to see him return. Or you could have him murder his competition (Other owners of restaurants, cafes, etc.) by poisoning their food which would make him an actual threat (I prefer this option)

  • A criminal for hire, who erases all evidence from a crime scene. Most frequently employed by the Penguin. Wears a yellow, pinstriped suit and has bright pink hair. After Batman sees him making a deal w/ Penguin, he becomes obsessed with erasing the only piece of "evidence" of the deal: The Batman and his testimony

  • A common criminal, Joe Coyne was attempting "the crime of a lifetime" by trying to rob Gotham's most prestigious department store when he heard police sirens. The police arrived, and a gun fight ensued. Coyne's longtime friend and accomplice was shot during the scuffle. Having to grab whatever he could from the cash registers, he fled with his friend. When he returned to his hide-out, he tried to tend to his friend, but he died of his wound. Hoping that he may have stolen enough money to at least have a modest funeral for his poor friend, he looked at his stash, only to realize all he'd managed to steal was pennies. The fact that Coyne had lost his friend and the break of a life time, drove him insane and he became a serial killer who dropped "pennies for the ferryman" into the mouths of his victims. Not the best origin, I know, but it was all I could think of for him

  • Basically, make him a high-tech thief with gadgets which create perfect holes in any object which he uses to break into banks and the like

  • An Arkham doctor assigned to Eduardo Flamingo, Philip Reardon was determined to turn Flamingo into a functioning member of society. After Eduardo had seemingly enough progress to have contact with others (they had previously communicated through a glass screen), Reardon entered his cell only to be attacked by Flamingo. The guards managed to suppress the mad man, but the damage was already done. Flamingo had torn Reardon's eyes from his sockets and ate them. Reardon was rushed to hospital, where he underwent a new operation to hook his mind to a computer bank. This allowed Reardon to be able to sense movement through signals from the computer (Which is about the size of an average sized palm and can be attached to trousers). Seeking revenge, Reardon sought out Flamingo who had recently escaped from Arkham and attempted to kill the assassin. He can also hook his mind into any computer system of form of tech. Also call him “eyes” instead of the ten-eyed man

  • Make him a one-shot issue kinda villain. A murderer who sets his victims' dead bodies up like a photo shoot and takes photos of them.

  • A modern-day pirate w/ an obsession with the pirates of old. He and his 3 brothers are feared along the north-east coast of America for their brutal methods and lack of mercy. Stingaree is the most violent of the 4, with him threatening to kill his brothers if they dare leave or disobey him. His exploits eventually lead him to Gotham harbour, where he encounters Batman. Stingaree is defeated by Batman, and in Blackgate, meets The Cavalier whom he falls in love with. Cavalier and Stingaree manage to break out and start a crime spree together, with Cavalier convincing Stingaree to "dial down" his violence as the cavalier doesn't wish to harm anyone but to challenge the Batman

  • A former GCPD officer and trusted friend of Jim Gordon, Phil Cobb manned the Bat Signal. Although he was a close friend of Gordon, Cobb, unlike Jim, held a loathing for The Batman (Even more so than Bullock does) as he believes that he is the reason for all the "costumed criminals" and therefore to blame for his daughter's death by the hands of the Joker. Seeking "justice", Cobb interferes with the signal one night which causes it to break down which leads to Batman not being informed on crimes which are currently happening. When Batman manages to contact Gordon anyway, Cobb resorts to another plan. He creates the costumed identity of the signalman and tries to take on batman himself by using the bat-signal to lure him into a trap and take him down once and for all

  • A historian who grew bored of his work, Mortimer Drake was obsessed w/ the Batman. Wanting to go down in the history books himself, he decided to challenge the Batman to a duel. He dressed in a Cavalier suit and on several occasions tried to get the attention of Batman by committing robberies but only managing to attract the police and end up in Blackgate. In Blackgate, he met Captain Stingaree whom he quickly fell in love w/. Cavalier had previously enlisted the help of the Spook to get him out of Blackgate if were to ever enter, and so he and Stingaree escaped from the prison. Drake tried to convince Stingaree to dial-down his violence as Drake only wanted to challenge the Batman

  • Simon Smith was a skilled silversmith in Gotham. He becomes so obsessed with his job and silver, that he begins to steal it from his work and hide it in his apartment. His colleagues find out, and he is fired from the company and the silver is returned. The loss of his job and his "precious silver" drives him insane, and he decided to start stealing silver from across Gotham whilst now calling himself Sterling Silversmith. His obsession leads him to believe that Silver will become much more valuable than gold, and he decides to decrease the sales of Gold to help him become rich quicker. He also constructs various weapons which feature some aspects of silver in them (I know I didn't change much, but these minor changes are much needed)

  • As much as I love the 60s villains in all their campy glory, I'd like to see some of them reinvented so that they fit more into the current DC universe. A failed novelist, Alexander McDowall (A nod to Roddy McDowall who played him in the 60s show) was rejected by every publisher he went to, so he decided to seek revenge on them. He sent them copies of his book which had pages laced with poison. After Batman managed to save the final 5 publishers, McDowall was sent to Blackgate. During a riot, he managed to escape and set up a hide-out near the docks. He decided to push Batman to the limits for interfering w/ his plans, by committing several murders which he set up like a famous scene from a book or play (A Hamlet-esque scene being his largest murder). He also managed kidnap Commissioner Gordon and place him in Gotham National Library which he had rigged to explode if Batman didn't choose the right chapter from a book which held the answer to defusing the bomb. He was then placed in Arkham as he was deemed mentally-unfit to stand trial

  • I've never been a fan of the idea that this was Alfred from a different Earth, so I've changed his origin. A former SAS soldier, Brandon Crawford (A nod to his origin story) was a close friend of Alfred Pennyworth. During a mission in Egypt, it appeared that Crawford had been killed in action. Pennyworth was distraught, and to make matters worse, Crawford's body was never recovered. Unknown to everyone else, Crawford was alive. Passing "nomads" (Or that is what Crawford mistook them for) took Crawford with them and traveled to where Crawford thought they must be currently staying. However, it turned out that these were not nomads and were in fact members of The League of Assassins. They took him to their leader, Ebenezer Darrk (Who is later revealed to only be in control of this area by command of Ra's Al Ghul) who instructed them to place the dying man into the Lazarus Pit (Hoping to gain a new member of the League after helping him). However, Crawford's body and mind did not react well to the pit, as it bleached his skin and turned it rock-like, while driving him insane. The League trained Crawford and he became one of their most skilled assassins. Years later he was tasked to travel to Gotham and kidnap Alfred Pennyworth to punish Bruce Wayne (A.K.A. Batman) for refusing to join the league

  • I really like this guy anyway, but I decided to give him a shot. Working under Penguin, Steven Sharpe runs the Iceberg Casino. A master conman, The Gambler is also a lethal shot and Penguin's most trusted employee and acts as second in command of Penguin's criminal empire. He also employs several deadly weapons, including trick poker chips and razor-sharp cards

  • The daughter of a brilliant Australian scientist, Byrna Bryant was obsessed with snow and ice as she had never had the chance to see any (She lived in the outback where her father could test experiments away from the prying eyes of the law). Wanting to surprise his daughter for Christmas, Alan Bryant attempted to create a form of precipitation that instantly freezes whatever it touches but died instantly when he touched his creation. Distraught from her beloved father's death, Byrna went insane. She spent years trying to recreate her father's invention, slowly losing more and more of her sanity. When she had finally cracked it, she managed to place it into the form of a freeze ray and headed for the U.S. (Where she decided to seek the companionship of Captain Cold, whom she had heard of on the news). When she entered into the U.S., she learned that Cold had been imprisoned in a maximum-security prison which was hundreds of miles away. Deciding she could do it alone, she attempted to create her own "ice-city" by completely freezing Washington D.C., however Wonder Woman eventually stopped her

  • A master lock-pick and safe-cracker, Paul Bodin had even mentored Batman in his training years. However, he was forced to help criminals in their crimes to raise money for chemo-therapy for his daughter who had contracted cancer.
