Batman : The Long Halloween

Now into his second year of wearing the cowl, Batman is still fighting a war against the corruption of Gotham city - with the odds stacked against him. Having grown close with GCPD captain James Gordon and admirable D.A. Harvey Dent, the three of them start a war on crime. When the nephew of Gotham's top mob boss is found dead on Halloween, marking the start of a year long murder spree, Batman and his allies must uncover the true identity of the killer. However this task becomes harder by the minute as an assassin is sent after the D.A., the chief suspect is murdered, Bruce Wayne is accused of having links to the Falcones and Harvey Dent's private life clashes with his work...

  • Credits-Scene: In a private penthouse on Halloween we see a body lying slumped on a chair. As the camera zooms in it's revealed to be Carmine Falcone - shot in the head.

  • Investigating the Long Halloween murders, every clue to the identity of the killer, that Batman manages to pick up, seems to lead to nothing but a dead end. Except the one suspect who constantly fits the bill to the murders - Harvey Dent. With Harvey seemingly becoming more violent everyday, Batman starts to harbour doubts about his close ally. Although when Dent confronts Bruce about having possible connections to the Falcones after Thomas Wayne saved Carmine's life, Batman is reassured that the D.A. is still fighting the good fight. However Dent is indeed hiding a dark secret that may have just been uncovered...

  • The young D.A. of Gotham City, Harvey Dent suffered abuse as a child at the hands of his father who, when drunk, used a two-headed silver dollar to "decide" whether to beat him or not. His father's alternating attitude left Harvey emotionally scarred which lead to him developing a second personality which he dubbed "Two-Face". More recently, Two-Face has been winning the war between Harvey's two sides, subjecting him to frequent violent outbursts. When his father passed away, he left Harvey only one thing in his will; the two-headed silver dollar. This angered Harvey further & made him even more unstable. Once Falcone's lieutenants start showing up dead on holidays each month, Dent is considered to be the perpetrator by the family. Faking his death with the help of Batman & Gordon, Dent goes undercover into the False Facers in order to follow a lead that Black Mask is behind the killings. Not finding any evidence to link Sionis to the killings, Dent does however discover that Thomas Wayne once saved the life of Carmine Falcone, leading him to believe that there was a connection between the Waynes & Falcones. When Gordon learns of Two-Face, Harvey has to come clean to him & Batman. However Dent is unaware that his secret has also fallen into the hands of Roman Sionis...

  • Born into the infamous Day family, whom were loyal to the Falcones, Julian Day lived a life of luxury. After several setbacks by D.A. Harvey Dent, the Days became sick of the constant humiliation and desired to be the top dogs of Gotham's underworld. Setting out to destroy the Falcones, the Days had a hitman kill the family of Carmine's godson on Halloween. However Carmine hit back fast & hard - having the Days killed that same night. Unbeknown to Carmine, Julian had managed to escape & was forced to live on the streets, where he slowly fell into insanity - strangling a homeless man on new year's eve, marking a new start for Julian. Becoming obsessed with the symbolism behind the dates of the horrific events of his life, Julian began to plan his revenge against the Falcones and Dent, whom Julian blamed for ultimately causing the death of his parents. Taking on a false identity, Julian took a job as Hugo Strange's P.A. & began to meet with Alberto Falcone. The two planned a year long murder spree culminating in the death of Harvey Dent and (Unknown to Alberto) the death of Carmine Falcone. Learning that Dent was one of Strange's patients, Day would steal one of Hugo's files & learn of Two-Face. Realising that exposing Dent would be a much better culmination of the Long Halloween than merely killing him, Julian gives the information to Black Mask - as he believes Sionis revealing Dent would be a poetic ending to his year long murder spree

  • Working with Dent and the Batman to bring down the organised crime in Gotham, GCPD Captain Jim Gordon grows suspicious of Dent as he becomes prone to violent outbursts and seems to want to encourage Batman to kill criminals - although Jim still has hope in his old friend. Gordon is almost certain that there are two Long Halloween killers, one being within the Falcone organisation and the other being an outside accomplice. However as more and more of the suspects end up dead, Gordon begins to doubt his initial deduction. Whilst investigating the disappearance of Hugo Strange's P.A., Gordon would find Strange's patient report on Harvey. Learning of Two-face Jim confronts Harvey and questions whether his trusted friend could be the remorseless Calendar Man...

  • The learned son of Carmine Falcone, Alberto has always been denied a role in his father's business as Carmine wants Alberto to aspire for better things. Eventually growing to resent the rest of his family, Alberto would secretly become victim to depression and later insanity. Meeting with Hugo Strange's P.A. (Gregory Munroe), Alberto would learn that he also harboured a hatred for Alberto's family. The two would plan a year long murder spree together with high-ranking members of the family being killed off on a holiday each month as Alberto believed that this would impress his father enough to let him join the business. When Alberto learns that Munroe plans to kill Carmine as well, Alberto threatens to reveal him to his father - however this doesn't end well for Alberto as he becomes the Long Halloween's Valentine's Day victim. After Alberto's death, Julian Day begins to fear that he won't complete the Long Halloween as Batman begins to crack down on him - having to abandon his identity as Gregory Munroe, Day hides in his old safehouse

  • The kingpin of crime in Gotham City, Don Falcone heads the Gotham Mob which he rules over with his own syndicates. Having a far-reaching influence over Gotham, Falcone was previously seen as a necessary evil by Gordon as his downfall would lead to wide-spread chaos & disorder. However, now with the backing of the D.A.'s office & the Batman, a move can finally be made on Falcone. Now with both the GCPD and the D.A.'s office against him, Carmine is beginning to suffer heavy blows to his organisation. This only worsens when Falcone's top lieutenants and his family members start showing up dead on significant holidays. Becoming increasingly paranoid, Carmine sends an assassin after Harvey Dent whom he believes to be the killer behind the Long Halloween - although Carmine also suspects anyone other than his trusted son Alberto. Forced to go against one of his main principles against "freaks", Carmine has to hire Black Mask in order to stabilise his empire.

  • Batman's most trusted ally & loyal butler, Alfred's hope that Bruce's "war on crime" will soon cease after the Falcones are taken down begins to dissapear as a new kind of criminal begins to emerge...

  • A young, egotistical yet brillaint FBI agent with an obsession for riddles, Edward Nashton {Using the Alias Edward Nygma} has been tasked with finding out as much about the Batman as possible. Whilst in Gotham, Nashton has been hired by Carmine Falcone to identify the identity of the Long Halloween killer - although Nashton only took this job as a means to get up-close to the Batman (As they would be both at the crime scenes together). Becoming obsessed with proving his intellectual superiority to Batman after the two traded their suspicions of who the killer was, Nashton soon forgets about the Falcone job (Which he considers below his intellect anyway)- instead wanting to best the Dark Knight. Thrown off Carmine's estate on April 1st after failing to cooperate, Nashton has an encounter with the Calendar Man killer. However he leaves Eddie alive, instead using a prop gun with a banner - making Nashton the only person left alive who knows the identity of the Calendar Man...

  • The godson of Carmine Falcone, Garfield Lynns was a talented Hollywood special effects expert. However after his family were killed by an arsonist on the orders of the Days, Lynns would become insane. Believing he could see his family in the flames, Garfield became obsessed with fire and desired to be with it always, believing that as the flames grew he became closer to his wife and children. Adopting the name Firefly and becoming an arsonist, Lynns was the only exception to Falcone's anti-freak stance - however Carmine became increasingly worried about his godson as over time Lynns began to become obsessed with the flames more than his family as he says how he wished he died in the fire himself, if only to feel the taste of the flames on his body...

  • Once a childhood "friend" of Bruce Wayne, Roman Sionis would eventually "tear off his mask" and kill his parents before carving a black mask from his father's coffin. Becoming the Black Mask, Sionis would form the False Facers and become Falcone's rival in the Gotham Underworld - torturing those he believed to wear "masks" and needed stripping of them, revealing their true selves. Suspected by Carmine Falcone of being the Calendar Man killer, Falcone is proven wrong when some of Mask's own men are killed. As Falcone needs to stabilise his empire he is forced to hire Black Mask as a chief lieutenant. Given information about Two-Face by Julian Day in exchange for promising to reveal this to the public on Halloween, Mask would betray Day and instead keep the information for later use as Sionis has bigger plans for Dent...

  • Falcone's go to assassin with a reputation for never missing a shot, Floyd Lawton is loyal to noone & only accepts jobs if the pay is right (And the more dangerous the better). Sent by Carmine to kill the Days, Deadshot was almost entirely successful in completing his mission. However at the last minute Batman intervened, causing Lawton to miss his shot and allowing Julian Day to escape. Not wanting his reputation to be ruined, Deadshot let Carmine believe he had successfully finished the task. Now with a burning hatred for Batman, Deadshot is more willing to accept the job to kill Harvey Dent but the task falls to Garfield Lynns instead. After Dent turns out to be alive, Lawton is sent to the GCPD annual ball to kill him - however before Lawton can even raise his gun, Commissioner Loeb is shot which causes the attendees to flee. When Julian Day is publicly arrested, Deadshot plans to one day finish his job...

  • A genius psychologist who has radical {And highly controversial} theories about genetic manipulation, Professor Hugo Strange has recently reopened the derelict Arkham Asylum with his colleague Dr. Langstrom. Also acting as Harvey Dent's consulting therapist, Strange is particularly interested in finding a way of erasing Two-Face from Dent, whom Strange believes is connected to Harvey's genetics and that by removing him Dent will be genetically perfect. Strange and Captain Gordon start a rivalry when Strange refuses to disclose Dent's condition to him - however Gordon manages to acquire one of Strange's files whilst Hugo is out of the city...

  • Selina Kyle's childhood was outlined by tragedy. Her mother committing suicide and step-father drinking himself to death, Selina was forced to raise herself on the streets of Gotham, adapting to the harsh atmosphere of the City. Never knowing her father, Selina actually suspects Carmine Falcone to be him but with no definite proof her parentage remains a mystery to her. Loyal to none, Selina only sides with those she feels she'll benefit the most from. Now a professional jewel thief and calling herself Catwoman, Selina is a constant thorn in Carmine Falcone's side as she targets his vaults and private estates - even managing to scar Carmine's cheek and get away unscathed. Selina also has a flirtatious relationship with the Batman whom she toys with when they meet...

  • The fiancĂ©e of Harvey Dent, Gilda Gold is a professional sculptor and artist. Gilda knows of the monster within Harvey and always calms him from his fits of anger

  • The corrupt commissioner of the GCPD, Loeb is a constant annoyance to Gordon as he refuses to take action against the Falcones. At the Police's annual ball, Loeb is shot and killed by the Long Halloween killer

  • Sionis' right hand man, Oswald Cobblepot is mainly kept around for verbal and physical abuse by Roman. Dubbed the "Penguin" due to his appearance, Oswald is made to wear a Penguin ballroom style mask by Roman. However Ozzie doesn't plan to stay Black Mask's patsy for long and already has high ambitions, secretly making deals behind Roman's back

  • The mayor of Gotham City, Hamilton is secretly on Falcone's payroll. When Falcone's lieutenants start showing up dead, Hill fears for his life and makes a deal with Oswald Cobblepot for his protection

  • Dr. Kirk Langstrom has reopened the derelict Arkham Asylum with his colleague Professor Hugo Strange. Much more approachable than Hugo, Kirk is happy to help James Gordon when he comes to Arkham to investigate the disappearance of Strange's P.A. - however communication with Kirk is harder for James as Langstrom suffers from Chronic deafness and has to resort to ASL

  • The 13-year-old daughter of Harvey & Gilda Dent, Duela found out about her father's split personality when she saw him violently smash the bathroom mirror after arguing between himself

  • The daughter of Jim Gordon, Babs idolises Batman and even sneaks onto the roof of the GCPD Precinct one night to look at her hero

  • The arsonist hired by the Days to kill Garfield Lynn's family, Matches Malone would eventually be hunted down by Lynns and killed. After his death, Batman would use his identity in order to gain information through the criminal underworld
