Star Wars Top 10 Characters (Rise of the Empire era)

Making a whole list of favorite characters would require several characters that Comicvine does not have for lists, but I conveniently have everyone I want for a list for my favorite era

List items

  • A great warrior, academic and philosopher Bane managed to destroy and rebuild the sith order into it's purest incarnarnation. Ultimately despite his strength dwarfing everyone elses he realised that pure offensive capability was not the way to go and he had the humility to try to mold himself as well as to mold his apprentice into a different kind of sith. Hardened over the course of countless trials he managed to become one of the greatest sith of all time, despite not growing up as a sith or a psychopath, actively choosing the darkside.

His growth and the pure amount of cool stuff he does merits placing him here. He manages to avoid the personal downfalls of many other sith like Palpatine, despite still making mistakes and having flaws in his own right.

  • The premier badass mutherfucker of the Star Wars-universe boasts both a very fascinating mind and philosophy and a bunch of just straight up cool action scenes. Him on Haruun Kal getting broken down piece by piece, just for him to crawl out of his stupor with sheer determination and rebuild himself into a stronger person was amazing.

  • Vader and Anakin are two interesting sides to the same coin, one having to struggle with unable to freely express his emotions and base his actions around them, the other struggeling with surpressing emotion and focussing on order, as a obsession to distract him from what he lost. Anakin's internal struggle and conflict of loyalties was very well-portrayed in the ROTS-novelisation and his relationship with Ahsoka makes ht events even more tragic, on the other hand seeing him battle countless jedi as Vader never fails to be entertaining.

  • A genius manipulator with a focus on finances and science, with a much better and sustainable vision for the galaxy than that of the somewhat short-sighted Palpatine. He offers an interesting perspective on a variety of topics and he personifies a struggle between esoteric concepts and grounded real-politics. A Übermensch that does not respect any higher power, and does not buy into determinism despite being aware of the risks of denying the will of the force. His many personal flaws such as his soft spot for droids and Palpatine and his hypocrisies make him a very human character.

  • Incredibly classy, intelligent and well-intentioned sith. If anyone does not get why he is so high, read Dark Rendezvous.

  • Despite being more or less butchered on-screen his other appearences most notably in Dark Rendezvous grant him a spot on the list. Despite being viewed as a monolithic pillar by other jedi he as well has to struggle with the loss of his greatest student and with the temptations of the darkside. His dedication to the little things and people and his focus on creative, out-of-the-box thinking make him a great jedi master, despite his fatal flaw argueably being his lack of flexibility on the grand scale.

  • The og big bad of Star Wars. You just have to love a wicked troll who has the time of his life causing suffering and being a complete hedonist. His portrayal in the movies is great, his manipulations and rhetoric are gold at their best, however much of his success is at least partly due to plot-induced-stupidity which puts him down a notch, as well as him abandoning the Rule of Two.

  • Very interesting, unique fighting style and quite an underrated combatant. Her becoming a sith was quite tragic and is in large due to her being so empathetic as a kid. Seeing her trying to grow into her own person, despite having been molded by Bane her entire life is exciting. Starting with her manipulating him in Rule of Two and resisting literally becoming his vessel through strength of will in Dynasty of Evil.

  • His entire concept is literally just "Sherlock Homes with force powers" and it is about as awesome as you would expect, he is just always doing something entertaining and he has managed to retain a independent streak in this pretty homogenous jedi order.

  • An interesting exploration of the negative consequences that can come with being raised from childhood by an order of monks that preach detachment from pretty much everything. Her redemption arc is strong, despite not getting much focus and her abilities are very unique. Her interactions with Tholme, Vader, A'sharad, Mundi, basically anyone she talks to are guaranteed to be interesting.
