10 Things I Wanna See In a Batman Reboot

No Caption Provided

This is RedHood13 with another "(Insert number here) Things" article for you. To check out my first one where I show you the 5 things I want to see in MOS 2 click here. A Batman reboot is inevitable. He is one of DC's most popular characters and brings in a lot of money. TDKR might have beaten out Avengers last year if it wasn't for the shooting. If DC is truly trying to set up a cinematic universe Batman is an absolute MUST. Batman does need to be done right though. Here are the top 10 things I want to see in the upcoming Batman reboot.

No Caption Provided

1) Show All of Batman's Skills: I very much liked the Nolan Batman trilogy. One thing i didn't like about it though was that Batman wasn't the world's greatest detective. Batman debuted in DETECTIVE Comics (in case you didn't get it I was emphasizing the detective). In recent media that involved Batman, I've seen Batman become less of a detective and leave all that work to his computer. Instead of going out and interrogating people hanging them off of building, he sits at his computer typing in words. The computer is a great starting point and way to check the info you got, but not something he should rely on. There's a story called Batman: Lovers and Mad Men It's a story that tells the origins of the Joker. VERY well written, and great art. Anyway at the beginning of the story Batman has a narration which is very good and he talks about his training. It shows him reading books while doing push ups in various rooms. Out of the windows you see famous monuments which indicate what places he is at. There is also a sword next to him of different styles based on locations around the world. In one outside the window is the Eiffel tower and next to him is a fencing sword. Another has a katana and outside I think is a mountain. The point i'm trying to make with this is that Batman has learned fighting styles from all around the world, which was touched on in Batman Begins, but he never used it. I want to see a Batman that's agile and fast and fights like a trained assassin that doesn't kill, not a stiff guy in a suit that can't withstand dogs (*cough*TDK*cough*).

No Caption Provided

2) Gadgets: One thing I'd love to see Batman have is gadgets. Batarangs, exploding batarangs, electric batarangs, smoke bombs, flare bombs, grappling gun. Maybe in his helmet there's a sonar feature that serves as a radar like real bats. Maybe in the eye lenses there is thermal vision, night vision and normal vision. I just want to see cool stuff that's not over the top. Bruce Wayne can afford it so why wouldn't he have it. His suit should also be very durable and should withstand bullets and dogs (*cough*TDK*cough*).

No Caption Provided

3) Tone and Realism Levels: I think the tone should be very dark. At least as dark as TDK. Now don't get confused tone and realism are to VERY different things. One misconception about Man of Steel before it came out was that it was going ot be realistic. What Nolan and Snyder and Goyer were saying was that the world itself is realistic, not Superman himself. They were placing a fantastical character into a very real world. It was just away of saying that they wanted to show the true reactions to someone like Superman. That's what I want them to do with the Batman reboot. It should take a unrealistic character and place him in a real world.

No Caption Provided

4) New/Redeemed Villains: I don't want to see Bane, Two Face, Joker, Scarecrow, or R'as al Ghul for at least 2 movies. There's some many villains that need redemption or screen time. Mister Freeze, Killer Croc, Poison Ivy, Man-Bat, Clayface, Riddler, Zsasz, Hush, Black Mask, Hugo Strange, Deadshot, Deathstroke. One thing I want to see with more fantastical villains (Mister Freeze, Killer Croc, Poison Ivy, Man-Bat) is a justified reason on why they are like they are. I'd also like to see people like Riddler and Joker as serial killers. I also think there should always be a villain that makes Batman think, and a villain that makes him fight. For example a movie with Black Mask and Deadshot, not just Deadshot or just Black Mask. Maybe they could use Red Hood (the original who ended up being the Joker).

No Caption Provided

5) Robin: Yes I want Robin to be in the first movie. Robin is an essential character in the Batman mythos. He's never been done well in film. He is basically a younger version of Bruce, yet with a different attitude toward his situation. I would choose Dick Grayson for Robin. Bruce would've adopted Dick a year before the events of this film. He would be around 15 or 16, not too old or young for Robin. I see Bruce training Dick in preparation for the day Bruce can't be Batman anymore. This is unknown to Dick. When Dick finds out Bruce is Batman he begs Bruce to let him go along with him. Bruce wouldn't do it. Towards the end of the film would be "Robin's" debut serving as backup for Batman. I think his suit should be similar to the one to the left. Just a darker shade of red and the inside of the cape should be black.

No Caption Provided

6) MOS Style Origin: What I mean by this is flash backs, at points where they're needed. For example in MOS (Man of Steel) Clark has flashbacks to pivotal moments in his life when they would come up. So in this movie since Robin is in it, but is adopted before the events of the film maybe Dick and Bruce are talking about the night Dick's parents died and Dick has a flashback then Bruce thinks about how all he could think about is when his parents died, and Bruce has a flashback to that. They should be at times where the character having the flashback would actually be thinking of that or in times when the character would need it. If Batman is in a bad situation and needs to get out he might have a flashback to a point in his training. So by the end of the film we could take the flashbacks and piece them together into a story. I think Batman would've been operating for about 3 years at the time of this movie so he could have flashback ot his first days as Batman and the mistakes he made (earth one style).

No Caption Provided

7) GOTHAM: I like the interpretation of Gotham in the Nolan Films. I think Batman Begins had the best portrayal. I think that Gotham should have 2 parts. The new modern metropolis and the dark gritty old part of Gotham. The dark gritty old part is where Batman usually operates. Maybe new Gotham sits on the shore of the Atlantic and old Gotham is connected by a bridge so old Gotham is an island. Places like Arkham would be located in old Gotham. Batman is kind of the protector of the innocent people that live in old Gotham and makes sure that the villains don't take over old Gotham entirely (hint ,hint).

8) Director: This movie would need an amazing director. Someone who could capture Batman and Gotham as if it was a person. This person needs to be able to handle action in the Batman way. They also need to have a clear vision of what they want Gotham to be like. My top choices for a Batman film are Ben Affleck (Argo), Guy Ritchie (RDJ Sherlock Holmes Films) or Darren Aronofsky.

Ben Affleck: I think Ben Affleck would be good because of his style of directing. He is great and you know why I've chose him if you've seen The Town or Argo. Watch this scene from The Town

Guy Ritchie: I chose him because of his work on Sherlock Holmes. I feel that the city played a big part in this movie. He knows how to handle mysteries and action well also. I would love to see a scene like the one in the video below in the movie.

Darren Aronofsky: He could get the tone of the movie down perfectly and I think could bring in the psychological aspects of the film. He would do an AMAZING version of the Court of the Owls storyline. Just keep him away from the story (look up his ideas for a Batman: Year One movie)

No Caption Provided

9) Writer(s): I think the writers should be Scott Snyder, Joel Coen and Ethan Coen. Scott Snyder as you know writes Batman for DC now, and I think is one of the best if not THE best Batman writer ever. Joel and Ethan Coen wrote True Grit. Scott Snyder knows Batman and the Coen brother's know how to write a great script from source material. They were praised for how well they adapted the True Grit book into a screenplay and were nominated for an Oscar because of it.

No Caption Provided

10) Batcave: The batcave is the head of operations for Batman. I have yet to see a great adaption of the cave on film. The bat computer should be one of the most advanced computers in the world. Maybe a Tony Stark esque holographic system. It should be home to labs, workout rooms, a "garage" of sorts that hold all of Batman's vehicles and more things. There should be various ways of accessing it through the tunnels of Gotham.

Alright so those are my ideas! Share your thoughts and ideas below in the comments. If you agree or disagree let me know! Also, tell me "(inset number here) Things" article you want me to do next! DEUCES!!

Hmm my other comment on here didn't show up so excuse me if I comment twice.

Really well done! I agree with most of these. These are the things I would want in a Batman reboot, too. More detective work (like Sherlock), martial arts, Robin, new villains, gadgets, and a more technologically advanced Batcave. I would also like for Paul Dini to have a voice in it as well, for his work in Batman TAS. I think Kevin Conroy Batman is the best and most faithful Batman outside of comics. He tends to make Batman too powerful when teamed up with the Justice League but as in a solo movie, he'll be perfect.

I like number one, I'd love to see a Batman film that focuses on detective work.

Number five? You realize that when ever they put Robin in a Batman film that the film sucks? It's true, google it.

Number seven, agreed, Gotham is an important character.

Number eight, interesting director choices. Ben Affleck has defiantly proved him self as a decent director but he has to stop putting him self in the lead role. Affleck as Batman? No thanks. Aronofsky would be amazing. Ritchie would be cool too.

Number nine, Snyder the best batman writer ever? Really?

Number ten, yes!

@breadspread: I don't think Robin is the problem in those movies. It's more of the director and writers. Look at Batman & Robin. There are far more problems than just Robin. With the right director, you could have a more serious, dark costumed, older Robin (think ages 15-18). Look at the Tim Drake picture above. I think the costume is sick and he looks badass. Just tone down the colors a little. Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, and Tim Drake could all do well under the right script.

@batmannflash: The reason you haven't seen any good martial arts in a Batman film is because it's impossible to have a realistic or even cool looking costume that would allow it, for Batman to have the movement and agility pepole seem to want he would have to be dressed in spandex. Also a Robin costume like that would look pretty ridicules on screen, it would have to at least look similar the Arkham City one and have a hood because a teen running around in just a domino mask would get laughed at.

@jonny_anonymous: yeah I know. It's unfortunate. Something like Arkham City would work. It's cool, and more logical. Only problem is that they can't move as quickly :( And that could be a problem, especially for Nightwing, who's the agile type.

Agree with all except 5 and 9, and hesistantly on 4. We need to see Joker at some point or it's just... wrong, but we do need fresh meat too (c'mon Riddler!).

@joygirl: agreed, as much as I like the idea of "fresh meat", it would be wrong not to include the Joker at some point. I also feel once he is introduced there's no going back.

Harley Quinn would be amazing "fresh meat."

I agree with all points in this article. I'm a bit hesitant on putting in Robin, but it could work if they write it well enough. He needs something similar to the Arkham costume, it looks so incredibly badass!

Didn't Batman Begins give the idea for the MOS origin story telling style? That movie has tons of flashbacks to show his training, why he left Gotham, etc.

@joygirl@breadspread: I think you guys misinterpreted what I said about the villains. I said they shouldn't use any of the Nolan Batman villains for at most the first 2 films. I think that gives enough time for their presence to ware off of all of us and enough time ot introduce new villains.

@jonny_anonymous@rulerofthisuniverse: I chose this Robin suit, because I didn't want to deviate away from the original suit too much and I was saving that suit for Jason Todd or Damian Wayne.

@granitesoldier: In Batman Begins the Flashbacks are much different then the ones I want. For one they are WAY longer then they would be in this film. Also the ones in this film would be scattered around his life. The first could be him on his first knight as Batman and the last could be his parents death. They're completely based off of the situation.

@batmannflash: Thank you! I like your ideas too. You probably got all of this better than anyone else who read it.

@redhood13: Don't get me wrong, I like the other suit and I think it would work well I'm a movie, but I'd be happy if they gave it the Arkham games hood, at least. But still, the Robin part is a very minor complaint and your article is well thought out so I want to thank you for posting it. :)

NO ORIGIN PLEASE, they could explore Bruce Wayne past, but not origin again, i mean we saw Begins and Yeer One in the same decade.

Also all Batman skills? he has as many Skills as Superman has pointless powers, i mean MOS never show Superman using his i can see you soul powers, if well is truth they should show some skills Batman has many useless and stupid skills like being the best Dance Dance Revolution player, also this whole it has train all the martial arts is pointless the more you know the less effective you are as a martial artist, simplicity works better, if you learn one thing right is better that learn a bunch of thing and have no idea of how to use them.

Batman dont need to more gadgets, gadgets could make him look dumb if he is using gadgets to do things he could had done by itself.

Its MOS universe, so everything should be like in MOS or it would feel ridiculous and out of place.

Begins Gotham was the best one so far, it show you it was divide in two cities, also it looks like an actual city, Burton sets always look fake look at planet of the apes.

I have said this several times, no Robin, the Batfamily is great, but Robin fits the movies myth was debunked by Kick Ass that show ho horrible the children side kick thing is, also no one around the age of 16 would use the Robin costume, they are to old to be Robin at that age, old Robins are creppy.

Darren Aarofnoskye script for Batman was awful, he should never be around Batman, Ben Affleck dont want to do this type of movie anad Guy Ritchie is a boring choice, there is a world of better directors for this movie, example Alfonso Cuaron(Children of Men).

@batmannflash: The reason you haven't seen any good martial arts in a Batman film is because it's impossible to have a realistic or even cool looking costume that would allow it, for Batman to have the movement and agility pepole seem to want he would have to be dressed in spandex. This is a myth, Nolan costumde did work for this, the main problem is that the mainstream hates martial arts, also since ground techniques and MMA are the new martial dogma and Bourne nonsense is movie dogma is hard to do things people belive it looks great, most of people belive confusing camera work, confusing edition and senless action is a great thing.

@jonny_anonymous: Still it can be used, Nolan one was made to be keep in the body of Bale dont matter how he moved, not like Arkham one that even walking and going around does that exact thing you complaint about.

Still the point was they couldnt do it, thing the video show is not the truth.

Also, please stop this about Batgod should be about escapism and full fantasy crap(NOT EVEN AVATAR IS ABOUT ESCAPISM), he was design to be human and anything that means that idea is out, should never be in a movie, he is as humans as the comic let him be and it should be the same with the movies, cartoons and anything else, since the comic does it.

This is funny as hell, but please does you seriously want more of this?

Joker needs to be in all the movies/books/etc. Without Joker every Batman story is just less interesting to be honest, he needs to be the brains behind everything or at least the one manipulating other villains to do dirty work on the Bat while he plans.

@redhood13: So i am a hater because i hate every time Batman does something senseless and that destroy all the point of him being human, i mean The Goddamn Batman is a better Batman that BatGod, this said by a Adam West Batman fan, i mean kicking the Hulk is worst that all those bizare gadgets Adam West have, i mean the guy almost had to face Godzilla and still was less nuts and senseless

When did I make him BatGod? I just said make him less realistic. I didn't say have him take on freaking Darkseid and win with one punch. I just said that so we could have Killer Croc or Bane be huge and more similar to the comics. So we could have Mr. Freeze, and Robin, and Poison Ivy, and Clayface and Man-Bat and other heroes Nolan would never put in his movies. I didn't make him Batgod.

"Darren Aarofnoskye script for Batman was awful, he should never be around Batman"

I said Darren Aronofsky would only direct and ot keep him away from the story.

"Batman dont need to more gadgets, gadgets could make him look dumb if he is using gadgets to do things he could had done by itself."

He can do stuff without his gadgets? Batman is known for his gadgets! He can't fly (grappling hook) he can see perfect in the dark (night vision) he can't electrocute people (electric batarangs) he can't teleport (smoke/flare bombs). Without the gadgets the only way to make him an actual superhero is to MAKE him Batgod.

"I have said this several times, no Robin, the Batfamily is great, but Robin fits the movies myth was debunked by Kick Ass that show ho horrible the children side kick thing is, also no one around the age of 16 would use the Robin costume, they are to old to be Robin at that age, old Robins are creppy."

Then you say that 16 year old Robin is too old! Why is it creepy! Because a grown man is adopting a teenager? Also I said he adopted him at the age of 14. Dick became Robin at 16 because a 12 year old swinging around and fighting crime is Stupid when it comes ot movies. You say I was making him to fantastical when Robin being 13 in the movies is most fantastical thing you could put in a Batman movie.

"Also all Batman skills? he has as many Skills as Superman has pointless powers, i mean MOS never show Superman using his i can see you soul powers, if well is truth they should show some skills Batman has many useless and stupid skills like being the best Dance Dance Revolution player, also this whole it has train all the martial arts is pointless the more you know the less effective you are as a martial artist, simplicity works better, if you learn one thing right is better that learn a bunch of thing and have no idea of how to use them."

...what? I can barely read it because your grammar, SUCKS. Also that makes no sense at all.

"NO ORIGIN PLEASE, they could explore Bruce Wayne past, but not origin again, i mean we saw Begins and Yeer One in the same decade."

What? I said flashbacks! Did you read the categories at all? Flashbacks equals exploring Bruce Wayne's past!

You need to remember that detective work back in the 1940's and detective work in 2010s are considerably different. Batman is supposed to be about gadgets and science, so of course he will rely heavily on forensics using the latest computer technology rather then setting up a 1940's chemistry lab or chasing clues on people when you can find their records and activities via electronic trails.

He still does interrogations in the first 2 movies one with the Dirty Cop (Movie 1), Crane (Movie 1). Then he questions Maroni (Movie 2) and Joker (Movie 2). Bane's guys don't talk, so in Movie 3 there wasn't much room for that. To be honest, as he was coming out of retirement it made sense he was rather sloppy in those areas for movie 3.

Lets not also forget that in movie 2 he used hacking tools to find out peoples activities by gaining access to everyone phones which is a form of wiretapping (another updated form of investigation and gets you the information you might get from interrogation).

What else were you looking for?

@redhood13: Batman has skills he has used in one number only, Superman has super power he has used just in one number, thats what i mean, Batman is as skillful as he needs and Superman is as powerfull as he needs.

ok lets go step by step

1. showing all aspects of batman is a great idea in theory but in practice can be damn near impossible while its true i think we really havnt got to see his detective side and i agree we should his martial art abilities are a wholenother ball game you see while in comics you can draw someone doing whatever they want and the laws of physics be damned in a movie unless we are willing to blast the thing with cgi someone has to wear that suit and its bullet proof or at leat has to fool us the audience in to believing it it making it very difficult to be how OP put it "agile and fast" i mean it is an actor in there we must remember not the real Bruce Wayne on screen

2. i agree some better gadgets are in order not to much though fantastical but not absence

3. i agree the tone should continue to be a dark one not gothic though to first of all to differentiate from marvel and to elaborate the difference between superman and batman and i agree with you on the realism aspect here it should be decreased from the nolanverse so we can have an easier fit into the MOS and for hopefully a justice league film

4. some different villains are necessary but don't be so fast to throw out the established ones i mean this movie isnt for us it is also for mainstream audiences and mainstream audiences may not want to see zasz, hush and man bat plus some of these villans such as hush are based on years of back story which is hard to fit into 120 mins and you cant expect audiences to know it all they don't read comics and yes some more fantastical villains are needed.

5.no just no i and the general movie going a audience don't care about robin the boy wonder on the big screen to be honest i didnt much care for blake in the TDKR i know some did but lets first rember the lastime dick grayson made it to silver screen they used a grown ass man and that was horrible now lets say we did use a child for the same reason it is hard for whoever is in the bat suit to be in agile and acrobatic the same problems are with whoever is in the robin suit so again unless we CGI up there will be no acrobatic robin plus he is just unessasry in this medium dont get me wrong i am not one of those who belive that the character is unessary in genral i think he is integral to the mythos in the comic books and tv and even the games just not the big screen i dont want to give precious charecter development time to a robin whrn there are other chaecters that need it more and just in genral you cant have a story where the charecter that is in training is not the main one when you whatch karate kid its the main charecter isnt Mr miagi is it it would get confuing who is the star of the show if you have bruce train dick in a robin movie fine (even though i dont think they should make one of those either) but not in a batman film.

6. um ok a non-linear storytelling approach i am fine with that i guess the only real gripe is i don't know if i want to be told his origin again i mean i was just told it 5 years ago its not like MOS when the last time his origin was told on the big screen was in the 70's we literally just got told it unless you are doing some major changes i don't think it is necessary to tell the origin again maybe a quick flashback during the title sequence like in the incredible hulk

7. yea not a bad idea no real problems with that sort of like wht they are doing in arrow at the moment

8. yea those are all great choices maybe it would be good to consider someone who has already done a superhero flick but hey those are all top notch directors

9. um writers i say no to scott don't get me wrong i think he is a great comic book writer and all but that the thing he is a comic book writer and before anyone says anything i know he has a bachelor in creative writing but that doesn't make him any more suited to be a screenwriter look just because someone can do one aspect of writing well doesn't mean they can do another just as well and also let no one say that maybe he can just sit over them because that is incredibly patronising to who ever does do the writing batman is not his character he doesn't have the right to stop another artist doing what he is doing interpreting the character in his or her way and as for the coen brothers yea they are a good shout and so are the wachoskis (i hope i spelt that right) maybe the nolan brothers just maybe

10. i agree not too over the top though i want this film to be believable not necessarily real but believable

thank you for reading
