@feedonatreefrog: Some of us are old and out of touch. Now get off my lawn with your Sony Walkmans and your hightop sneakers! It was a fine review about a changing movie buying experience.
I loved the way Venom's tentacles were used like Ock's arms. Sure Superior Spidey has arms on the back but Superior Venom seemed to be channeling some Ock moves. Well played.
So much of the Spider-Man mythos is based on him being a young man who has lost his father figures and ends up battling older men in positions of power. You are not wrong about there being a void in the female enemies department of his rouges gallery. Females just don't naturally fit in the psychological underpinnings of the character.
How much cooler was Boba Fett before Episode II? How about the Force before the midichlorians? I think less is more with Yoda. Too much back story bogs down the real story. Forward. Create new myths. It's much harder, much more daring, and much healthier for the franchise.
