@maverick_6: A large (probably largest) part of the problem in a job like mine is the inability to have weaponry drawn to preempt any potential conflict. Say I'm entering a building searching for someone when carrying out an arrest warrant; most of the time I can't enter with a baton drawn. Say I was approaching an offender and I was one hundred percent certain I am going to arrest them, unless they give me a reason to draw a baton or some other form of defense, I can't. Simply because in the UK drawing any weapon on someone counts as a use of force and unless I can justify that an officer is at fault. When you most need your baton (as we don't have guns) is the time you won't be able to access your baton. It's ridiculously hard to take a baton out of a holder when fighting and once they inevitably close the distance you won't be able to use it effectively anyways without risk of losing the weapon. And any weapon on my belt can be used more effectively on me than I can use it on an offender... Why? Because they are not bound by the law and don't have to justify their actions unlike me.

I've learnt so much in terms of self defense in the last few months it's crazy. Having to think intelligently and apprehend someone or defend your life with the least amount of force necessary every single time or at minimum risk losing your job (and maximum going to jail) is a big challenge. The hardest part is dealing with those with a metal health crisis as they have damn super strength and it's honestly like trying to detain a hulk. Because you don't go to that call because they are a suspect. You go because they are a needing help for whatever issue but they don't know. It's incredible how powerful the human body is when the mind goes haywire. There was this one small, skinny blonde woman who had the power of a bodybuilder. That was AFTER she had gotten hit by a car on a motorway, getting back up, and just steamrolling through officers. It's scary xD

You'd be surprised just how often situations turn south when you're unarmed. I'd say a majority of the time when a confrontation starts access to any protective equipment is limited simply because circumstances change within milliseconds. Every time so far I have gotten into a fight, the only protective equipment I've had readily in my hand were my handcuffs (which in reality limit your own defenses as you lose a hand trying to retain them in a scuffle).

I really loved this blog as it put a realistic feeling on how your characters and NPC's tackle foes far stronger than them. Continues to make Maverick feel more and more genuine in a world full of adversaries with crazy ass abilities. Thumbs up!
