Apocalypse: Survival of the Fittest

A list of Apocalypse, his family, his followers, his horsemen and other agents. This list will be organized chronologically from Apocalypse's birth till the present, followed by Alternate reality characters.

  • The mutant despot born 5,000 years ago. Abandoned at birth, Apocalypse was found by a nomadic tribe who taught him to live by the creed of "Survival of the Fittest." He has lived through the centuries finding ways to become stronger and testing those fit to survive.

  • The Sandstormers were a nomadic tribe of warriors that lived around 3,000 BC in Egypt. They found and raised En Sabah Nur, the mutant who would grow up to become Apocalypse. It was through them that Apocalypse chose to live his life in Darwinist laws: Survival of the Fittest.

  • Adopted father of Apocalypse and leader of the Sandstormers. He died after a cave-in trying to protect En Sabar Nur.

  • Logos was the Grand Vizier of Egypt who rescued Apocalypse and disguised him so he would not be captured by Pharoah Rama-Tut's men.

  • Ozymandias was a former enemy of Apocalypse and has been his slave and scribe for almost five milleniums.

  • Nephri was the sister of Ozymandias and was betrothed to the Pharoah, Rama-Tut. She was in love with Apocalypse until she saw his face and thought he was a monster.

  • At some point after enslaving Ozymandias, Apocalypse became comrade-in-arms with the man known as Imhotep and helped repel the first Brood invasion on earth.

  • Akhenaten, the Egyptian Pharaoh of Egypt in 1,500 BC, visited Apocalypse’s lair in Akkaba, pleading for his favor and was rebuffed.

  • War I. 281 AD, Decimus Furius' mutant powers manifested. He fought in the Roman arenas and was worshipped by some as a god. Apocalypse recruited him as his first Horseman of War.

  • Death I. In 325, Sanjar Javeed was born a bastard child to a beloved Persian king. Out of jealousy for not being acknowledged by his father, Sanjar would steal treasures from his father and present it to the townsfolk to gain their love. Unfortunately, his mutant power manifested killing many of his father's people. Apocalypse recruited him for this very reason as his first Horseman of Death.

  • Sahreed was a general of Apocalypse's forces in the twelfth century. He fought against the Black Knight.

  • Also in the twelfth century, the beast known as Scarab was a minion of Apocalypse. It halted those wanting to claim Apocalypse's powers, as only the strong would be worthy of acquiring it.

  • In the twelfth century, French knight Bennet du Paris discovered Apocalypse in Palestine. Apocalypse unleashed the latent powers of Bennet du Paris, turning him into Exodus. Exodus turned on his master so Apocalypse took back a majority of the power he had given him and put him in a coma for which Exodus would not wake up for over 800 years.

  • Later in that same century, Apocalypse met Saul who would later organize the Externals (a team of immortal mutants.) Saul shared his knowledge and secrets of a "chariot from the stars" but Apocalypse, to his knowledge killed Saul.

  • The conscious Celestial Ship found by Saul who showed it to Apocalypse. Apocalypse used its technologies to become even stronger and reprogrammed it to serve him. Ship or Prosh (as it was later known as) was eventually freed and returned to the stars. Recently, Ship has reappeared serving Clan Akkaba.

  • War II. In 1459, Apocalypse amassed an army called the Riders of the Dark. He also chose a mysterious figure to become his second horseman of War. He would lead the Riders of the Dark against the army of Vlad the Impaler (later Dracula). It is unknown what became of him.

  • Pestilence I. In 1833, Ichisumi was a beautiful geisha from Kumamoto, Japan. She suffered from an inferiority complex from the more beautiful geisha in her village. This combined with the disappointment her father had for her, manifested Ichisumi's mutant powers. Her yume beetles mutilated all the women in her village earning her a spot as Apocalypse's first Horseman of Pestilence. She, through Warren Worthington (aka the Archangel) is the mother of the Apocalypse Twins.

  • In 1859, Apocalypse came across Nathaniel Essex. It was then that he finally learned that he himself was a mutant. He also turned Essex with his machinery into his current persona, Mr. Sinister. He ultimately turned on Apocalypse and is pursuing his own agenda.

  • The Harbinger was a weak man that Apocalypse had transformed during the Victorian Era to serve him in the future. He was woken up in the late 20th century by the Hellfire Club.

  • Famine IV. In 1863, Jeb Lee was a confederate spy whose family was burnt alive when he was considered a traitor. That's when his mutant power manifested and Apocalypse chose him to become his first Horseman of Famine.

  • The members of Clan Akkaba are all descendants of Apocalypse. They have served Apocalypse throughout the centuries and have been reshaping history.

  • By 1897, Hamilton Slade, a descendant of Apocalypse had become leader of Clan Akkaba. When members of the clan were being murdered by a vindictive Dracula, Hamilton made it his mission to track down the killer. He ended up being turned into a vampire and serving Dracula. He was killed by his brother, Frederick.

  • Frederick is a descendant of Apocalypse who had teleporting powers unique to his clan, which Ozymandias advised him to keep it a secret. He was a genius and it did not go unnoticed by his jealous brother, Hamilton, who attacked him and left him in a vegetative state. In 1897 when Dracula tried to have his revenge on Apocalypse, Frederick was one of the key figures in defeating the lord of vampires. He is currently still alive and one of the leading figures of the Clan Akkaba working out of the United Kingdom. He is also the great-great-grandfather of Blink.

  • Margaret Slade was a descendant of Apocalypse, mother to Frederick & Hamilton Slade, and great-great-great-grandmother to Blink. In 1897, when her son turned on Clan Akkaba and joined Dracula, she joined him. Hamilton had eventually had enough of his mother and killed her.

  • Kabar Brashir was a descendant of Apocalypse who tried to take over Clan Akkaba in 1897 when Hamilton Slade went missing. He was killed by Hamilton Slade.

  • Jack Starsmore is a descendant of Apocalypse and great-great-grandfather to Jonothon Starsmore, the mutant known as Chamber/Decibel. In 1987, Jack was one of the main players in helping Apocalypse defeat Dracula.

  • Van Helsing, the vampire hunter and enemy of Dracula briefly worked together with Apocalypse and what remained of Clan Akkaba to depose the threat of the Vampire Lord.

  • Apocalypse's first ally in the modern era was Moses Magnum. Magnum was a terrorist who Apocalypse saved and transformed.

  • Team of mutants assembled by Apocalypse to battle X-Factor.

  • Was a member of a group of mutants Apocalypse assembled called the Alliance of Evil. She eventually went onto serve as a member and later leader of Magneto's Acolytes. Currently, she serves as a member of the X-Men.

  • Was a member of a group of mutants Apocalypse assembled called the Alliance of Evil. Stinger's current whereabouts after the abandonment of Utopia is unknown.

  • Was a member of a group of mutants Apocalypse assembled called the Alliance of Evil. Timeshadow is deceased.

  • Was a member of a group of mutants Apocalypse assembled called the Alliance of Evil. Tower is deceased.

  • The ultimate generals of Apocalypse. When all else fails, Apocalypse, summons his Horsemen. This usually consists of a Death, Famine, Pestilence and War. Though on occasions, some Horsemen are seen working alone.

  • Pestilence II. Apocalypse decided the Alliance of Evil were unfit to follow him and so he decided to assemble a new modern team of his ultimate followers, the Four Horsemen of Apocalypse. After the Mutant Massacre, Apocalypse offered the Morlock known as Plague to become his first modern horseman, Pestilence. Unfortunately, she fell in battle.

  • War III. Apocalypse then approached the mutant named Abraham Kieros, who served in the Vietnam war. Kieros suffered injuries in battle that left him paralyzed from the neck down. Apocalypse offered him to become his second horseman and first incarnation of War in the modern era. Following his service, he was returned to his vegetative state until his former teammate, Angel healed him. His whereabouts following his recovery are unknown as is whether or not he retained his powers after M-Day.

  • Famine II. Apocalypse then approached Autumn Rolfson. Rolfson was a young, teenage girl with an eating disorder and the mutant ability to disintegrate food and organisms. She became Apocalypse's third modern Horseman, Famine. She had a son with Apocalypse, William Rolfson aka Genocide (or Holocaust in the Age of Apocalypse). She was killed by Archangel.

  • Death II. An original member of the X-Men and X-Factor. Angel to his friends was believed to have died in a plane crash, when in reality Apocalypse had rescued him and turned him into his last horseman, Death. He eventually broke free of Apocalypse's brainwashing and has recently regained his Death/Archangel powers. He ascended and became Apocalypse's successor. After his on and off again girlfriend, Psylocke freed him, Angel recovered but has no recollection of who he used to be.

  • Hellhound/Death III/Pestilence III. Caliban, another morlock was transformed by Apocalypse to become his hellhound and eventually replaced Angel as the new Death. Caliban eventually broke free of Apocalypse's control as well and joined X-Force. Later when Apocalypse was assembling the Twelve, he chose Caliban to serve him as his Horseman once again. This time though, he played the role of Pestilence. He was reverted to his old physical form by the Morlock, Masque. Later he died saving his friend, Warpath against the mutant hating Purifiers.

  • Originally the Riders of the Storm, named after Apocalypse's army. The original Dark Riders were Inhumans that Apocalypse recruited. They followed Apocalypse's creed of Survival of the Fittest and so eventually chose to abandon him when he lost to Stryfe. The team is now defunct with most of their members either dead or missing.

  • Inhuman who was an original member of the Dark Riders. He served Apocalypse, Stryfe, and later Genesis. After the death of the rest of his teammates, he became a mercenary and even worked for Blaquesmith in hunting down Apocalypse.

  • Inhuman who was an original member of the Dark Riders. He was a mainstay of the team throughout the years and often acted as leader, deeming who is fit or not. He was eventually killed in a confrontation with Madelyne Pryor.

  • Inhuman who was an original member of the Dark Riders. He stayed with the team throughout its existence and served the Dark Riders under Apocalypse as well as Stryfe. He was severely crippled by X-Man. His current whereabouts are unknown.

  • Inhuman who was an original member of the Dark Riders. He was eventually deemed unfit and was hunted down by his former teammates. His lifeforce was drained by Genesis and the base that Foxbat was in exploded. He is presumed deceased.

  • Inhuman who was an original member of the Dark Riders. He remained with the team until its hunting of the mutant Mesmero, where an error on Psynapse's part caused the team to question his fitness and they killed him. He somehow returned and served with the Dark Riders again when they served Stryfe. He was killed by X-Man.

  • Inhuman who was an original member of the Dark Riders. He remained with the team throughout its existence until he was killed in a confrontation with Madelyne Pryor.

  • Assassin was a robot created by Apocalypse. He knew he had adapt to modern times and rely on technology so he built what he thought would be the perfect assassin. After a battle with Namor, Apocalypse escaped and ordered Assassin to fight him. To Apocalypse and Namor's knowledge, Assassin blew herself up but she survived her self-destruction and wanders at the bottom of the sea.

  • Apocalypse's Successor. When the Dark Riders kidnapped Nathan Summers, the child of the X-Men Cyclops and Jean Grey, he was infected by a techno organic virus. He was taken to the future, where the leader of the Askani cult feared he would not survive and so they cloned him. Apocalypse attacked the Askani base and kidnapped the clone believing him to be Nathan. He was adopted and trained by Apocalypse, who wanted to claim his body as his own. Apocalypse named him Stryfe. He was trained by Apocalypse's aide, Ch'Vayre who opposed his master's plan and escaped with Stryfe.

  • Zero was Stryfe's trusted ally and bodyguard.

  • In the future ruled by Apocalypse and where Stryfe was raised, Korless was a member of Clan Chosen. Clan Chosen were the opposition of Stryfe's team of Scions of Apocalypse. Korless eventually became Stryfe's spy and betrayed his clan. Stryfe killed him after he failed his mission to catch Cyclops' son, Nathan aka Cable and his wife Aliya Dayspring.

  • Daughter of Apocalypse.

  • Descendant of Apocalypse through Frederick Slade. Blink is unaware of her lineage.

  • Descendant of Apocalypse through Jack Starsmore. The mutant known as Chamber was depowered on M-Day and only through a blood transfusion from Apocalypse did Jonothan gain some sort of powers back. Jono regained his powers after reality was altered to Age of X, and maintained his powers once it reverted as well.

  • Son of Apocalypse on Earth-295. He was a Horseman of Apocalypse on his world until he was cast into the multiverse and ended up on Earth-616, where he worked alongside Sebastian Shaw and later Onslaught. He was eventually drafted into the Exiles, where he was killed in battle against King Hyperion.

  • Son of Apocalypse.

  • Dark Beast is the evil iteration of Hank McCoy from the Age of Apocalypse. He crossed over to 616. Recently, he served as Archangel's chief scientist.

  • Clone of Apocalypse raised by Fantomex.
