"This is a new kind of different." Tommy said, watching a flash of blue zip around in the dark, kind of like a very large firefly under the streetlights.

"Gotohell." Came her reply, as fast as he was used to hearing himself speak. "EithergetoffyourassandhelporPISSOFF."

Insted of doing as she said, he reclined back on the bench. "What are you doing?"

"Working."

"Doing what?"

"Removingmotionsensitiveexplosives."

Characters: Santo Vacarro (Rockslide), Victor Borkowski (Anole)

"Eli's kind of hot, don't you think?" Anole asked from behind Rockslide. Santo, leaning against the bed, twisted around to look at the green guy lying on his back.

"Who?"

"Patriot."

"How would I know?" Santo asked. "He is insane, though."

"He is not."

"He is too. Every time you talk to him he starts yelling about something."

Vic snorted. "And how many times have you talked to him?"

"Don't have'ta. He yells so loud everyone in the same city can hear him."

"You're exaggerating." The green mutant disagreed half-heartedly.

"Not by a hell of a lot."

"Are too."

"Not."

"Either way, he's kind of hot."

Santo rolled his eyes. "Uh-huh, sure. In the same way Radian was." He snickered.

"That's a terrible comparison. Patriot's got an actual reason to be angry. And he never caused a riot."

"Yeah, okay, fine." Rockslide huffed. "But he's still insane."

"Yes, Santo, Christian Cood was insane. And Eli Bradley is still hot."

Fic: 'Return of Times Past' (Marvel) FR13-X23,Sofia,Pixie

Title: Return of Times Past
Author: Pixie Child ( glitery_insane_pixie_child@yahoo.ca / http://pixie.submystic.com )
Fandom: Marvel Comics - New Warriors (II)/X-Men
Characters: Laura Kinney (X-23), Sofia Mantega (Wind Dancer/Renascence), Megan Gwynn (Pixie)
Pairing: Julian Keller (Hellion)/Sofia Mantega (Wind Dancer), Julian Keller (Hellion)/Laura Kinney (X-23)
Rating: FR-13
Timeline: post Second Coming (so, spoilers ahead!)
Summary: X-23 has decided what she wants; to help her friend anyway she can. Sofia has no idea what's going on.
A/N: When I started this, it wasn't supposed to be more then 100-150 words, Sofia wasn't supposed to be angry, Pixie was only supposed to be mentioned, and it took way longer to get down because half-way, I suddenly had to inquire about how people see Keller (and that simple question ended up being a rant that took an hour to write).

Sofia lay on her back and squinted unto the dark, unsure of what had disturbed her sleep. Since moving into her little apartment, she'd learned to sleep through almost anything, no matter how loud or obtrusive.

She felt, rather than saw, something fly across her room. When her eyes adjusted to the lack of light, she bit her lip to keep from crying out in surprise. Carefully, she reached under her pillow for the energy weapon Kaz gave her when the New Warriors disbanded.

Out of the corner of her eye, she could see a person moving in the dark. There was a girl, not much older then she, going through her dresser.

"You have awakened." The intruder said.

Immediately, Sofia sat up and scrambled backward until her back was against the wall. "Yes, I have." She pointed the phaser-like weapon at the other girl.

"Good." She moved toward the Venezuela national.

"Don't come any closer!"

"I am not here to hurt you." The girl who'd broken into her apartment took another step forward and the moonlight from outside fell across her face. She looked familiar, somehow.

"No? Just to rob me, then? Sorry, I've only got ten dollars and you aren't going to find anything to sell in my dresser. Or anywhere else, for that matter."

"I am not here to rob you, either."

Sofia snorted. "Sure."

"You are needed on Utopia." The girl's even-toned explanation caught her by surprise.

"I'm not a mutant."

The girl, who'd been emotionless until now, had something that looked like agony flicker across her face for a fraction of a second. "Ju- Hellion has been badly hurt."

Sofia's breath caught in her throat. "I'm not a doctor, either." She snapped, trying to shove her worry down.

Now the girl looked angry. "He has a doctor. Beast is very capable." She took a final step and reached toward Sofia's desk chair. The former mutant saw that her suitcase was open on the chair with various articles of clothing in neat pile inside.

"So, what, because Julian gets into trouble," Sofia began, incredulous, "I'm supposed to go to the other end of the United States to kiss it better?" She knew she sounded a little bitter, but she didn't care. When she'd lost her mutation, she felt weak and scared. "He'll get over it." In battle, Julian TK had always served just as well defensively as it did offensively. What's the worst that could have happened to him, he broke a few bones?

"I do not believe he will, and if he does, it will not be for a long time." Her uninvited guest sound sad when she said it.

"Even if you're right, how is it any of my business?" *oh, God, please don't let her be right.* Sofia prayed. "I haven't seen Julian in a long time. And who are you, anyways?"

"X-23."

"Emma Frost is giving you guys numbers instead of names now?" Sofia asked sarcastically, although she wouldn't have been all that surprised if Julian's mentor had. It sounded like something she would do.

"No."

"Then why-" Sofia shook her head. "It doesn't matter. I don't care." She put her weapon down and climbed off her bed so she was eye-to-eye with 'X-23'. "I don't care about any of it. The last time I spoke to Julian Keller, he made it very clear that I became less when I became an average human. He said those of us changed on M-Day did not belong at the school or with the mutants who retained their mutation." Sofia's voice rose with every word. "And even if none of that were true, it still would not excuse you breaking into my apartment, at any hour, to tell me about Julian or anything else!" She was standing just short of actually bumping into X-23, furious and yelling at the top of her lungs.

"Be quiet!" A neighbour yelled and banged on the wall.

The mutant was unfazed. "It is important." She said again, as though Sofia hadn't just released all the resentment she'd let simmer over the past few years. "You are needed on Utopia."

"Uh-huh." Sofia didn't back up but she did allow her arms to fall to her sides. "Why do you think that I would even be welcome there?"

She was surprised when X-23 broke eye contact first. "He asks for you." The strange X-Man said. "In his sleep. Whenever he is hurt." She sounded as though it hurt her to say.

Sofia had no idea how to respond. "What?" She whispered and stumbled backwards. When her legs hit her bed, she sat down heavily. "What happened?"

"We were attacked by Bastion. He created an impenetrable barrier around San Francisco," X-23 said, once again sounding completely detached, like she was giving a history report about something that happened before she was born, "including Asteroid M. Cyclops-"

"Stop." Sofia held up her hands. She was afraid to know, but not knowing was making her sick. "Just... what happened to Julian?"

"His hands were disintegrated."

"What?" She whispered, horrified. Her head was swimming. "He... oh no."

"Yes."

"And... you think I'll be able to help?"

"I do."

Sofia swallowed. "Okay." She carefully pushed herself back up. "I'll go." Numbly, she went to where X-23 had put her suitcase and forced it shut. "How are..." Sofia licked her lips. "How are we going to get there?"

"Teleportation." The mutant swiftly walked across the one-room apartment.

Sofia shouted when she noticed her door. "Hey!" Both chain links were cut and her deadbolt had a hole through it. "Do you realize how much that lock cost?"

"No." X-23 swung open the door. "Pixie!" She called even before she was in the hallway. This girl clearly didn't care that it was after midnight and everyone in the building was probably asleep.

Another girl stuck her head around the corner. "Hiya!"

"Megan Gwynn?" Sofia asked in shock. Without the bicycle helmet or pink war-paint, she looked very different.

"Yup!" Megan waved hyperly. "Hi Wind Dancer! I mean, Sofia. How are you? I haven't seen you in forever! There's so much-"

"We are leaving now." X-23 interrupted.

"Right!" Megan bounced inside and Laura closed the door. "I'm so happy you said you'd come!"

"You 'port now, Megan?" It was a stupid, irrelevant question, but Sofia was having a hard time accepting the reality of it all.

"Yup!" She chirped again. "Ready?"

*As ready as I ever will be.* "Yes, Megan." *I hope I am doing the right thing.*

"Sihal novarum chinoth!"

"X." Logan greeted when he found her sitting in the dark one night. She nodded at him in response. He went over to the couch and sat next to her.

Logan had never been good at idle conversation and it was always worse with kids. He tried to remember how he'd done it with Jubilee, but came up empty. It had almost always been her who began their conversations. Finally, he gave up and didn't bother with trying to come up with some pointless way to lead to what he wanted to ask. It wasn't as if Laura would care or even notice.

"Cyke told me you met Daken."

"Yes."

"Did you sleep with him?" He asked bluntly. She didn't flinch.

"No."

"Good." Silence descended upon them. Usually, Wolverine would have preferred the quite, but not now. "I'm glad."

X finally got the hint that it was her turn to speak. "Why did you ask?"

"Because he sleeps with everyone." He told her flatly. He'd since gotten over his resentment of his son's behaviour, but that didn't mean he was proud of it. "Especially the people he goes after for one-on-one fights."

His clone arched an eyebrow. "Why would he choose to be asleep with those he wishes to kill? Would that not leave him vulnerable?" She asked him, clearly confused. It was times like this that really proved why he needed to put more effort into ensuring she got more personal interaction.

"I meant, did you have sex with him." He clarified. She didn't respond. "Did you?"

Laura looked at him like he'd lost his mind. "He is your son."

He frowned at the disrespect in her voice. "Yeah. I did happen to know that."

"I am your clone."

"Uh-huh." He had no idea what her point was.

"That would be a genetically incompatible union."

"Human sexuality is not always driven by a conscious desire to procreate, kid." Logan reminded her.

"According to his DNA, he is my son the same as he is yours." She argued stubbornly.

He grunted. "That wouldn't have stopped him."

Laura's tone went from insulting to insulted. "And you think it would have not stopped me, either?" She asked sharply. Logan sighed. This conversation was not going the way he'd intended. Which only served to remind him why he hadn't spent more time on her social skills.

"Along with our enhanced senses, healing ability and bone claws, his mutation lets him use pheromones to manipulate people into actions they wouldn't usually do." He told her, trying to undo the damage. "He enjoys using them to fuck with the people I care about. And that usually means literal fucking."

"Oh." She seemed stunned for some reason Wolverine couldn't understand. In her short life, she'd seen how twisted humans could get on every level. That someone would manipulate another person into having sex against their will should not have been a revelation.

"Kid?" He asked.

"Yes?"

"You okay?"

"Yes."

"'kay." He stood, ready to go having said what he went there to say. She still looked confused, though. "You sure?"

"I am fine."

"Right. Good. 'Night, then."

Just before he crossed the threshold to leave the room, he stopped. "Hey kid, I only asked 'cause if he'd touched you, I would have removed his balls and ripped his guts from his body before he had a chance to scream." Laura slowly turned her head to look at him, her eyes wide. "He'd be dead sure as I'm breathen', healing factor be damned." Logan told her, meaning every word, "He might be my kid, but you're my family. And no one touches my family."

"I-"

"Now," he cut her off, "we done with this emotional stuff?" He asked gruffly. She nodded. "Good. 'Night."

Maybe talking to Laura wasn't so difficult, he realized. So long as it involved mutilation or death, they were just fine.

List; Young Marvel Heros

I made another list. Why? Your guess is as good as mine. It started out as just being major New X-Men, Young Avengers and Runaways. I don't recall why, but harmless enough; keep track of the younger generation, what titles they were in and basic team info.

But, of course (because this is me), it got kind of out of hand. I ended up including almost all the students at the Institute (from New Mutants II on), plus NYX, New Warriors (II) & Young X-Men characters. Oh, and Megan Kinney and Layla Miller. Then, I went back and added roomate & (well known) family info where applicable. And backtracked again to add Category (human, mutant, ect.) & Nationality. *grin* That was a good use of three hours.

edit: ah-ha! I remember; I was trying to come up with a list of angry youths!

"So," Megan begins, and for the first time in her whole life, she doesn't have any idea what to say. She eyes the only other person in the room. He's about the same age as her, with dark hair and big eyes. "So," she tries again, "Any idea what we're supposed to be doing?"

He shakes his head and his long hair falls in his eyes. She giggles. "No. You?"

She shakes her head just as fervently. "No." The uncomfortable silence descends again and she fidgets. For the next fifteen minutes or so, they keep glancing at each other out of the corner of their eyes and pretending not to know the other is doing the same.

Eventually, the boy breaks the silence. "I'm Billy."

"Megan." She shifts, her wings uncomfortably compacted beneath her jacket.

"Have we met before?" He asks her, sounding tentative.

"I don't think so." She'd have remembered if he ever went to Xavier's and she doesn't want to mention she's been on the news more times then she can count as a member of the X-Men.

"You sure?" He prods. Megan looks at him directly and her eyes tick down for just a second, but it's long enough for her to catch a glimpse of the tiny rainbow badge on the underside of his backpack strap. She grins.

"Have you been to one of Dazzler's more recent concerts?"

He hesitates, then nods. It's sort of an unofficial admittance of being either a mutant or gay, because all her concerts have been held in the Village. "But I don't think I ever met you there."

Megan laughs and shakes her head. "I'm one of her dancers." She stands and takes off her jacket, letting her wings that were beginning to cramp spread out. Pixie grins as Billy's eyes widen and he makes an 'ooh' noise that sounded like Victor when he got into one of his fanboy fits. And, actually, thinking of Victor...

Megan lets out a little noise herself, although it's much higher pitched. "Ohmigod!" She squeals and her wings flutter in excitement as she claps her hands twice. "I know who you are, too!" Billy pales and she's pretty pleased with herself that she notices. She's getting much better at noticing things like that. "Oh, it's totally cool. I'm a superhero, too. One of the X-Men? It's just that, like, Anole - he's my best boy-friend, well but a boyfriend, because he's totally gay, but, you know, friend who's a boy and - he's, like, your biggest fan. Before the school blew up, Rockslide, that's another one of my friends, he always used to complain when we would watch the news reports on you guys, 'cause they always seemed to air when he wanted to watch wrestling." Megan took a deep breath and was happy to see that most of Billy's colour had returned. "Sorry. I do that when I get excited." Her face is burning and she ducks her head down to try to hide it. But the boy just laughs.

"It's okay. My brother talks way faster then you." He assures her.

"You're just saying that." She accuses, but she can feel her blush calming down, anyways.

"Nah. You know, Speed? He's my brother. Well, sort of. It's complicated." She squints at him, trying to figure out how being someone's brother could be complicated. "But he's a speedster and he talks so fast that sometimes, we don't even realize he's said something until after he's gone."

"Ohmigod!" Megan squeals again, "That's just like Surge!"

Before she can say anything more, the door leading from the waiting room into the unmarked office opens. "Hello, children." Dr. Strange steps out of the office and gestures for them to enter. "I'm glad you've had a chance to meet. We're going to be working together for a while. Please, come in."

Megan looks at Billy, *Wiccan!*, nervously. He doesn't look any more excited about it then she feels. She sighs, picks her bomber jacket up off the floor and quietly follows the Young Avenger into the darkened room.
