Ares is one of Wonder Woman's main villains, and has made more appearances than Marvel's Ares, though. It's odd to me that he gets a page and not DC's Ares.
A year or so ago, each of the Greek Gods who had appeared in a comic book (mainly Wonder Woman) had their own pages. It seems they've been deleted and/or merged with the In Public Domain characters? I'm not sure why this is, as Marvel still has their pages for Hercules, Ares, Zeus, etc. The Greek Gods are a pivotal group of characters in Wonder Woman's series, as well as others... they should have their own pages if the Marvel versions do.
Can anyone fill me in on why they don't have pages?
That sounds about right. Superman's is definitely Luthor, though... no need to even mention the others. I've always considered Spider-Man's archenemy to be Green Goblin. I also consider Flash's to be Captain Cold simply due to Superfriends, same with Aquaman and Black Manta. A few others I can think of:
Iron Man - Mandarin (definitely it's the Mandarin, sadly)
Has the DC Ares page been merged with this one? It doesn't make sense to me as to why Marvel's version gets his own page but the DC version has mixed with this one...?
I would LOVE a Sensation Comics, even if it's digital. Really, it'd be perfect for the more super-stuff for Wonder Woman, whereas Azzarello has the mythy stuff down for her main book. We really are lacking in a fun WW book where Diana fights the Blue Snowman.
@Icarusflies: It's a woman whose taken the names Barbara Minerva, Priscilla Rich, Deborah Domaine, and Sabrina Ballesteros all at one point or another. Thus her real name likely isn't even Barbara Minerva at this point.
Everyone is saying how the show needs to be so rooted with Paradise Island, but everyone should remember... it would air on the CW. Shows aren't given exactly the highest budget to film with, and Paradise Island would need to be either filmed in New Zealand or completely CGI. The whole point is to make a drama/action with a young Wonder Woman in the US. A fish out of water story. And Artemis, Hippolyta, and Ares aren't anymore vital in my opinion than Etta Candy, Steve Trevor, or Cheetah.
As for the origin, I do agree the Zeus origin is interesting and fresh. But relatable? No way. Sure, she has a father now... but he's king of the gods.
I would love it if they merged Priscilla and Barbara together to make one crazy cool Cheetah. Take Priscilla Rich's mental instability and Barbara Minerva's feral power, and I think you'd have a great villain.
