[The Shadow War of Hawkman #1] Origin story told (viz. the duo chased Thanagarian criminals to Earth, and decided to stay, esp. after their homeworld was taken over by a warmongerer who let loose an "equalization plague"). Meanwhile, shadowy villains try to rob Katar Hol's antigravity belt, and (seem to) have killed Shayera.

Hawkman investigates the attack, discovering Thanagarian agents who wish him to join in an invasion of Earth.

Hawkman attacks the Thanagarian's base, and escapes with Hawkwoman who hadn't died - it was their museum coworker Mavis Trent who died. They go to the Detroid JLA, and are forced to stun Aquaman and Elongated Man to avoid informing them, since the Thanagarians are using and Absorbascon which can read all non-Thanagarian minds.

Hawk duo forced to blow up their ship, which was taken over by the Thanagarians, to avoid mass casualties on Earth. Epilogue reveals that the new museum artist is a Thanagarian spy.

[Hawkman Special] Assisted (for unknown reasons) by the Gentlemen Ghost, Hawkman enters a trance and helps those Thanagarians he killed move into the next life.

[Hawkman vol.2 #1] The Hawk duo are following up on leads (re. the Thanagarian invasion) and are attacked by the Shadow Thief.

The duo's identity and alien origins are revealed in the newspapers. They investigate the Hyathis Corp with its Thanagarian invasion links, and are attacked by the Shadow Thief once more. By the end however they are arrested.

Emmett manages to free the duo, and Hyathis Co. claims ignorance on its link to Shadow Thief, which they thence assist in being captured.

Not much to do with the War. The pair fight the (Gotham villain) Kite-man. Also ft. Zatanna.

The duo are attacked by their friend, after a Thanagarian agent transforms him (once again) into Lionmane. Hawkman is injured. Also, Thanagarians abduct the duo's first Earth friend and (now retired) police chief, George Emmett, fearing his unique immunity to the Absorbascon.

Lionmane continues to transform the streets into a jungle, and is subdued by the Hawkwoman.

The Duo are attacked in the hospital (where Hawkman is recuperating from his fight with Lionmane) by Hawkman's mentor, and the first to be awarded Honor Wings, viz. Darkwing; the Gentleman Ghost helps. Meanwhile Mavis's rich father is trying to get the duo fired from the museum.

The Duo assisted by the Gentleman Ghost attack a Thanagarin base/Hyacith complex, defeat Darkwing and rescue Emmett. Note that the Thanagarians have been using the Absorbascon to blackmail skilled humans into assisting their cause. As they're finishing, Superman arrives.

But it wasn't Superman, it was Byth who has shape shifting technology. Hawkman and Gentleman Ghost defeat Byth, destroying the complex in the process. Meanwhile Darkwing has escaped, and elsewhere Mr Trent is working to sue the Hawk duo.

[Hawkman vol.2 #10] Hawkman overhears plans to nuke the Earth in one day, the duo defeat Darknight and destroy the Absorbascon, and call upon the real Superman for help.

[Action Comics #588] Superman the Hawk duo intercept the fleet in space, and manage to use "overload" to send them hyperdiving far far away, but are left hurtling towards the sun, whilst Superman is outside in space and unconscious.

[Hawkman #11] Arrive at Thanagar, which has devolved. They attack the ruling council chamber, but discover that the apparent alien dictator Hyacith was only a robot acting on behalf of the council. The pair are captured and prepared for execution.

The council member tries to destroy Thanagar with a chemical that turns the entire population into monsters, but the Hawk duo discover that Blyth's pills reverse the effect. A new leader is installed.

Stewert's ex-wife is killed (by Mr. Brundage orders), and they follow up in Gulf Coast where they defeat a mask-spirit, but none the wiser. Last scene shows...

...the dead wife walking out of the river with the papers she had been carrying. The Hawks get into a fight with Brundage's hired Bolt, and the spirit, which is Brundage's ex-partner whom he'd murdered. Finally Brundage admits to hiring Lorraine, but is killed by a sniper.

Believing Hawkwoman dead, and still traumatized from the decay of Thanagar, he goes on a saving rampage through an intense storm. Finally he realizes he can save her by using the alien ship, although Lorraine and Gentleman Ghost must remain dead for balance. A fresh beginning beckons the couple...
